While We’re Waiting… Ohio State Fan Cans, NFL to Curb Tailgating, and MTAG Tour Stop Pictures

Check out the OSU Fan Cans: “Officials at dozens of colleges are upset over the latest marketing campaign launched by Anheuser-Busch. It features cans of Bud Light emblazoned with local teams’ colors. The cans, which come in 27 different color combinations, don’t bear any team’s name or logo, but college administrators contend the promotion will contribute to underage and binge drinking and give the impression that the colleges are endorsing the product.” [Jay/Wiz of Odds] [Deadspin] [JerseyChaser]

And for those of you that showed up to Muni at 9:30 AM on Saturday: “Per Michael McCarthy of USA Today, the NFL wants teams to take steps to limit access to booze. According to McCarthy, the league has recommended that the 32 teams (and 31 stadiums in which they play) limit tailgating to 3.5 hours before games, and to do a better job of monitoring and enforcing rules against excessive alcohol consumption in stadium parking areas.” [Mike Florio/PFT]

Ohio State scrimmage notes: “Generally, the passing game was OK. It was hard to look better than that with constant pressure from the first-team defense, which recorded six sacks against [Terrelle] Pryor, who was wearing a black no-contact jersey and was ruled down when touched by a defensive player. But many of those sacks – two by Cameron Heyward and one each by Thaddeus Gibson, Doug Worthington, Ross Homan and Jermale Hines – were legit with pressure right in his face.” [Doug Lesmerises/Plain Dealer]

Recaps of the Tribe’s weekend as well as the Browns preseason game coming up soon…

I would buy Buckeye Beer.
Superior Drinkability….as long as it’s against a Big Ten opponent.
Sounds like the schools/teams are pissed Bud thought of a way to sell more beer without giving them a cut.
Ironically, for a league that doesn’t have to compensate the players that draw the revenue, the NCAA HATES when others make money off of them.
They did the same thing with EA Sports and their NCAA video game…
If they make Natty Light in those cans they’d get way more sales.
Buckeye Beer: best consumed before January.
Good luck trying to limit tailgating. Apparently, the NFL hasn’t heard of the Constitution.
As an OSU student, I find it hard to believe that these new cans will make any difference to how much drinking goes on around campus. This is purely colleges being pissed that they can’t make money off this new campaign. If they lowered the price to what a case of nati light cost then the university might have something to worry about. until then its almost football season and that means keg beer. If only the busch plant got creative with their kegs, that would be interesting.
Buckeye Beer: It goes bad if you try to drink it from a bowl.
(I got a million of ‘em, folks!)
The 3.5 hour thing wouldn’t be terrible if every home game was played at 1pm local time. I hate watching the Browns on prime time.
I’m wondering if they’re doing NFL teams as well. My friend at the campground had bright orange cans of Bud Light, which I was assuming was for the Browns, unless he bought them in NY for Syracuse, not sure.
How could the NFL limit tailgating in privately owned lots? Or stop people from drinking in one of the bars by the stadium? They can’t.
I have drank those horrible orange-canned Miller high life beers…its somehow even less drinkable than regular Miller high life…ya know…the champagne of beers…
bleh.
1) Bud Light is horrible, horrible stuff.
2) Not many people will go out of their way just to have the “buckeyes beer” if they’re tailgating, because they have to use Solo cups anyways.
3) 3.5 hours is plenty of time to tailgate. If you can’t eat and get intoxicated in that amount of time you’ve got serious issues with your alcohol tolerance level.
4) LOL @ “Apparently the NFL hasn’t heard of the Constitution”. Apparently Mr Cleaveland hasn’t heard of public intoxication laws.
5) Jay’s got it – just tailgate/drink elsewhere. Goodell can’t stop you from doing that.
Bright orange cans probably for Hunting…. I hope they have green and white down in Athens in time for the Uconn game!
I’m expecting to see a posting on LeBron’s comments to ESPN last night about “looking forward to free agency” and “being loyal to Akron.” I’m sure every Knicks fan became aroused upon reading those quotes.

I certainly have heard of public intoxication laws, and I am fully in favor of enforcing them to the max. But believe it or not, not everyone who tailgates all day gets stinking drunk. Jeez.
Going to a Browns game and not drinking is something that I dont ever wanna expirence.
Hey Alex, the camo tall boys of Miller High Life are for hunting. Can’t have those deer spotting your beer. http://beyonddrinks.com/2008/08/18/miller-high-life-camo-cans/
