November kicks off with supposedly the greatest day in the history of sports television.  All four major sports are on TV, including Favre’s return to Green Bay and a pivotal game 4 of the World Series.

The Browns-Bears game may not be too high on the list of important sports events taking place today but faithful Browns fans will tune in I am sure.  You can find our Friday afternoon preview here.  The Bears are coming off an embarrassing loss to the Bengals and need a win at home after losing the past two weeks to drop to .500 on the season.  Join us in the comments as the Browns look for their first road win of the year heading into the bye week.  Inactives after the jump…

K Phil Dawson is back so Billy Cundiff is inactive.  DB Gerard Lawson, RB Chris Jennings, DB Anthony Madison, G Bill Yates, and both TEs Greg Estandia and Robert Royal are inactive (yikes!).

For the Bears, WRs Juaquin Iglesias and Devin Aromashodu, CB D.J. Moore, Safety Josh Bullocks, OLB Pisa Tinoisamoa, G Lance Louis, DTs Matt Toeaina and Jarron Gilbert are inactive.

How was Cutler’s fumble ruled an incomplete pass and then not intentional grounding? Anderson just throws a pick. Miserable.

Wow..I wonder if anyone told Anderson what team he plays for. I know the orange jerseys may be confusing him and all. Gotta love the DA led Browns:

    3 and out
    3 and out
    3 and out
    INT

and Scott – if we had an even DECENT offensive coordinator i would expect to see a lot of josh cribbs. But we don’t so expect to see a lot of Derek Anderson throwing behind, above, and in front of Browns receivers – and into the hands of Bears DB’s.

I turned on the TV, and saw the brown pants. This is NOT going to be a good game.

i never really had taken a side in the whole QB debate before, but DA needs to get pulled now, if only because he simply does not deserve the opportunity to play in an NFL game right now. I dont care how good he might be in practice, he totally lacks the ability now to play quaterback in the NFL

  • saggy
    13. November 1, 2009

Mangini: DA, we need to get out there and break the streak of 3-and-outs.
DA: ok, coach – leave it to me…

They are just about to field goal us to death. This game is terrible and will not be getting any better. What will it take for DA to get pulled? Does he have to hand the ball off to a bears player? Just pathetic

  • crobarred
    23. November 1, 2009

Anytime you see JLew run any play outside it looks like you are watching something in slow motion. He can only run inside. DA…1-6 for 4 yards. I think Cribbs could have better stats as a QB.

  • ManSleezee
    24. November 1, 2009

DA is so freaking bad that couldn’t a case be made that the Browns are intentionally putting an inferior product on the field so as not to have to pay Quinn 11 million dollars? Couldn’t a class-action suit be filed by Browns fans to get their season-ticket money back? I’m being serious. I’ve never heard of a team doing something this blatantly bad before in order to save money. Awful on so many levels.

At least the defense has been respectable, they’re fighting through the holds to hit cutler a lot. Too bad they’re getting worn down being on the field all game.

REEPJP- I thought I saw that too at first… but on the replay it looked to me like the bears player did a decent job of going at his side instead of at his back. Still, it might just be my bitterness speaking, but it seems like the bears hold or clip on almost every play.

  • crobarred
    32. November 1, 2009

I think Cribbs has more total yards at QB than Anderson. Way to go DA!

  • C
    35. November 1, 2009

Great, now that DA scored, Mangini will give him at least 4 more games.

  • JM
    36. November 1, 2009

a bad punt is the only way they can score. Wow.

  • saggy
    37. November 1, 2009

thought the official scorer may call them “drops”, when the QB throws the ball at a player’s thighs, it’s less of a drop and more of a crappy throw. (i’m looking at you, Derek Anderson)

  • crobarred
    38. November 1, 2009

It looks like the Browns are starting to figure out how to move down the field by keeping the ball out of DA’s hands. Maybe they’ll put two and two together and take DA out of the game entirely.

  • REEPJP
    39. November 1, 2009

2-11 13 yds INT pretty solid numbers through 2.5 quarters I’d say

  • jcm
    41. November 1, 2009

3 of 12 for 23 yards, 0 TD, and 1 INT works out to a QB rating of 4.861111111111116. Congrats DA. You need to really work to lower a season rating of 40, but he’s gonna make it happen.

  • Chuck
    42. November 1, 2009

Who’d've thought that the follow up owner (indirectly of course) to Art Modell would be more evil? Let Quinn play and pay the kid.

  • crobarred
    43. November 1, 2009

Well one thing is for sure. Mangina hates the fans. Only reason why he lets this travesty continue. Also even if he goes to Quinn or Ratliff after the bye they get the Ravens as their first opponent. I say leave DA in there hope he gets his head removed and Mangina will have no other choice but to make a substitution.

Wow. How is it even possible a team can be this terrible?

  • saggy
    46. November 1, 2009

it is just perfect: mangini tabs quinn to start the season, KNOWING he will fail against 4 of the top defenses in the NFL. it gives him the excuse to go to DA until next week when we play – THE RAVENS. oh, another good defense. so when quinn starts next week and has a subpar outing, mangini can say “i told ya so” when he should be saying “my bad”. affhole.

    56. November 1, 2009

If Derek Anderson is not pulled NOW, there is some crap going on
bring in ratliff if you must – but there is NO JUSTIFICATION FOR DEREK ANDERSON TO BE PLAYING IN THE NFL!!!!!

  • LakeErieMonstar
    57. November 1, 2009

I’d say “Blow it up and try again,” but we’ve already done that at least 3 times wit h this team…

…And, as I write this, Derek Anderson throws a Pick 6.

    Oy.

I think the commenters that say we should leave DA in there until after the Ravens game are right. That makes it impossible for Quinn to reach his incentives, and will give us a look at him against some human defenses for the rest of the season. Then again, in the NFL you have to play against the big boys, too…so I don’t know what it really proves to play Quinn only against the cream puffs.

Any chance Lerner’s English soccer team is available the rest of this season for a tour of American football? They just might be an improvement.

Quinn already has about as many completions and yards in this game as DA.

  • Goalie007
    62. November 1, 2009

1-15 here we come! This team is worse than both the 1999 expansion team and the 3-13 1990 disaster. 5 turnovers and 6 points. I would say that it’s time to go back to the drawing board, but I’m not sure Mangini even has one. Simply awful …

  • DJ
    63. November 1, 2009

DA with a solid 10.5 rating on the day.

Seriously, why even bring in Quinn when they did? What was the point? I’d actually be insulted at that point.

The Browns really are an embarrassment to their fans, city and the NFL. Truly sad. It’s not funny anymore, especially when anger is now turning to indifference.

  • LeBrowns23
    64. November 1, 2009

90% on DA…other 10 on lewis and Mas….can we hold onto the the ball?

Did anyone else notice the ONLY players on this team making plays were former jets or out LB’s we drafted…of the the previously groups guys except Thomas and Wimbley did nothing… I hate losing but I see the bright side it’s gonna take another year or two but Mangini’s guys are playing well it’s the rest that aren’t.

And why does everyone think the whole Quinn on the bench thing is money…Lerner doesn’t care about cash, and he stands to lose far more then 11million in lost ticket sales by not playing him.

Looking forward to next year when all the junk is off this team….with 11 draftpicks already and another free agent season We’ll be much much better.

Sorry to pain you all but give it a few more years before we are solid contenders….Just watch the Cavs until then.

  • C
    65. November 1, 2009

Lebrowns…what have you seen in DA that warrants him staying the ANY of these games? That’s why everyone thinks it’s money. You’d have to be blind to think that DA has done a single thing that makes him deserve to ever see a football field again.

  • Andrew
    66. November 1, 2009

@LeBrown23 – so you’re basically saying we should continue to wait for next year? Story of our lives…

  • Desert Wahoo
    68. November 1, 2009

Let’s see DA throws too hard and is inconsistant accuracy. BQ can’t throw to anybody but his TE and that is if it under ten yards. Neither QB is a real NFL athelete.

We have at least one more year of these two guys. So Le’t stop trying to figure out who will be best for the team since both of these guys are a joke. a real and absolute joke.

  • C
    69. November 1, 2009

Desert Wahoo, I’ll take 10 yard passes if they are completions…unless you’d rather have DA throw 40 yard incompletions or interceptions…that makes sense too ::rolls eyes::

  • DKH
    70. November 1, 2009

I think CBS would rather that game didn’t even exist. I didn’t hear them mention it once in the last hour and a half of the Baltimore/Denver game. I did get to see Braylon Edwards catch a ball and then fight for a touchdown with two Miami defensive backs, though.

Oh well, at least I get to root for the Cardinals, too.

I just saw mangini’s presser highlight where he was asked why not make the change earlier. He said

“I thought we were moving the ball ok up to that point”

DA’s QB rating in the first half was 0.0

    WHAT GAME WERE YOU WATCHING????

  • Alex
    73. November 1, 2009

Ok bobby, what do you have to say now? Any more idiocy defending Anderson over anything, including a rock wearing a brown jersey? You still think Anderson’s a better option than an inanimate object?

  • MrCleaveland
    74. November 1, 2009

What’s this??????????? Has Manmoron finally — FINALLY — realized that Anderson is the worst quarterback in the league??? Is this possible???

I hope he’s not just toying with us.

  • MrCleaveland
    75. November 1, 2009

Jeez, I take it back. What the heck was I thinking? The only reason Mangini put in Quinn is to keep the Ravens guessing. Quinn and Anderson will split reps for the next two weeks, and Mangini won’t name the starter until just before kickoff. Baltimore will be soooooo confused.

    82. November 2, 2009

Go back and look at the comments. I said coming out of preseason that DA lost the job and Quinn played better in preseason (I did not think he won it though, just the better of worse). I was in favor of switching QBs, because from DAs track record, he posted avg. numbers, and he moved the offense more often then not.

Last week I said unless DA had a 350 yard, 4 TD performance, then he should be benched. He had a mediocre game against cincy (250 yards, 1 td, 1 int) and I thought he could do that more or less constantly. I was wrong. DA has been worse recently then ever before. He is missing on his deep routes that usually had him with decent numbers. In the past few weeks, he has not been a threat to go deep, and that took away from the running game as well. Never did I once try to say DA was Peyton, or anything like that. Go ahead and take my words and skew them, but its wrong. Yes, I did like DA, and I did think there were a lot of dropped passes in the first half of the games he started. The last half was just getting enough snaps away from Quinn so they can pretend to save some cash.
