Carlos Santana Named Eastern League POY

santana8In what is a relatively bad day for Indians fans, we can at least take solace in the fact that we have one of the top prospects in baseball in Carlos Santana.  The young catcher continues to rack up awards, with his latest just being released today as Santana was named Topps/Minor League Player of the Year for the Eastern League.

The Indians media relations had the following:

[Santana was] also named league MVP at the end of the season as he led Akron to the Eastern League title… The 23-year old batted .290 (124-for-428) with 30 2B, 2 3B, 23HR, 97RBI and 91 runs scored in 130 games…He led the league in slugging% (.530), OPS (.943) and walks (90), was second in home runs, RBI and OBP (.413), and was third in runs scored…His 90 walks were a new franchise record…Santana was an Eastern League mid and postseason all-star selection and played for the World Team in the Futures Game in St. Louis.

Just remember that we received Santana in a mid-year deal for Casey Blake.

Does that help a little?

I love where this team is going in the next 5 years. If even half of our pitching prospects pan out we should be solid for a good 4-5 year stretch.

Forty years after Woodstock, with a boatload of platinum records and Grammys in hand, the guy’s still going strong.

I’m sure the Yankees are excited about their starting catcher in 2016.

#3, that’s hilarious… I had to lol at my desk.

I’m a much bigger fan of this Carlos Santana than the other one who sold out big time and made ridiculous songs with d-bags like Rob Thomas and Marc Anthony where he never stops wailing on his guitar. Wail on this.

I’m sorry but I can’t get in to baseball at all until there is a salary cap. #3 said it exactly right.so we’ll either have him for 4 years, or be saddled with a ridiculous contract for a mediocre player. Like peralta, hafner or carmona.

I was going to make a similar comment to Boom’s, but Boom is a much better writer than me. Absolutely hilarious!

Greg beat me to it. I was going to make a remark about adding the eastern league POY to his Grammy wall. I like Greg’s better.

This guy is the best hitter that I have seen at Akron since Ramirez. We can all now pray for a salary cap when the owners lock out the players after the 2011 season. If not just order the Yankees Santana jersey now…

Screw salary cap, it will never happen. I’ll settle for the big markets slicing up their huge TV deals into the revenus sharing pot for all teams to use.
