While We’re Waiting… No Browns Blackout, LeBron vs. Dwyane, and Lewis vs. Mangini

While We’re Waiting serves as the early morning gathering of WFNY-esque information for your viewing pleasure. Have something you think we should see? Send it to our tips email in the sidebar.

No Blackout Browns Ravens

So ESPN got WJW -TV drunk on Bud Light and sold them tickets? “The Browns have averted their first TV blackout since 1995.  The team announced Thursday night that the remaining tickets for Monday night’s game against the Baltimore Ravens have been purchased by the Browns, ESPN, Bud Light and WJW-TV, which will air the game.” [Associated Press]

If Jeezy’s payin LeBron, I’m payin Dwyane Wade… “This game was all about LeBron James and Dwyane Wade.  It was before the game, it was during the game, and it was after the game.  And after all the hype, the flashbulbs, and the duel . . . they basically canceled each other out.  LeBron had 34 points on 8-of-20 shooting, 2-of-4 three-point shooting, 16-of-18 at the line . . . with four rebounds, seven assists, two steals and a blocked shot.  Wade had 36 points on 9-of-21 shooting, 3-of-6 three-point shooting, 15-of-21 at the line . . . with four rebounds, five assists, no steals and two blocked shots.  You couldn’t find two more similar individual stat lines for LeBron and Wade if you searched through all the game logs for their six years in the NBA.” [Wine and Goldrush]

Art and Randy discuss week nine… ['64 and Counting]

Your Villain update: “[Evan] Turner once again led the way pacing the defense with 14 DRB’s (17 total reb) as well as the offense with 24 points (11/19) and 4 assists. Running the point, he and his backcourt mates had little trouble breaking the JMU full court press as the Buckeyes committed just 9 turnovers.” [Eleven Warriors]

As for what Lewis actually said – it makes perfect sense to question Mangini’s methods – especially if the Browns’ defense has worn down in all but a couple games this season. Conversely, if Mangini is working the Browns as hard as Lewis suggests, then how can anyone explain the complete ineptness of the offense?  However, in defense of Mangini, the Browns have become one of the league’s least penalized teams under his watch this season. So, perhaps Lewis is not seeing the entire picture – as in perhaps the Browns are just too tired to commit penalties. [Cleveland Reboot]

Last day to enter to win free tickets to the Browns/Ravens MNF game!

Lewis is a team captain, and as such he is on the players committee that is supposed to take issues/complaints to Mangini face to face. Lewis’ behavior in going straight to the press was inexcusable for a team captain. If Lewis didn’t want to “babysit,” he shouldn’t have accepted the honor. Lewis stabbed his coach in the back. I thought he was supposed to be a class guy, but he obviously isn’t.

Not to take anything away from the athleticism that Wade showed in dunking over AV, which was an exciting play, but did anyone else think that that was actually an offensive foul? It seemed to me that Varejao had position and went straight up into the air.

phil…….as I saw it, Varajeo was trying to take a charge/flop and DWade went right over the top of him as he was dropping back/down. In that instance, I would have rather Andy went right at Wade and fouled him HARD straight on-there would have been no way he could have posterized him in that instance, and a message would have been sent. There is a time to try and take a charge, and there is a time that a/the big man needs to stand upright and punish. That’s another reason why I love what Shaq brings to the team.

“…but did anyone else think that that was actually an offensive foul?”

Not since he was in the no-call zone. That’s going on the defender regardless of who is involved.

andy was in the circle…blocking fould was the right call

I am with Isis. If Andy had to do it over again, I bet he blocks / fouls Wade instead of attempting to take a charge.

Is it true that LeBron is changing his number?

@1: “Lewis’ behavior in going straight to the press was inexcusable for a team captain.”

Did he go straight to the press?

Mangini’s in charge. We have no idea what happens/happened behind closed doors in Berea.

We can’t assume talking to the press was the first thing he did.

That said, I’m of similar mind when it comes to Lewis at this point: he’s publicly said several times now that he’s on his way out. This isn’t a playoff team. He’s not helping this team win. I have no idea why he wasn’t cut loose over the bye, but he should absolutely be waived at this point. He wants to enter the HoF as a Raven, cut him and give them a chance to sign him and finish his career as a ceremonial Raven. Or try to help some other team win. He doesn’t appear to be doing much good for the Browns anymore–get him out of there.

    @8

phred, according to the PD, Lewis did go straight to the press — or at least that’s the strong implication. Here’s a quote from the article:

“Mangini professes to have an open-door policy to allow players to stop in and vent. He also has weekly meetings with the team captains. Lewis is one of the captains. But Lewis said he won’t take his complaints directly to Mangini.”

@9 – yeah, I missed the article, and that quote by Lewis. Sorry for the assumption–it’s my default way of thinking with this regime.

After reading that quote, it’s even more puzzling to me that Mangini didn’t cut his ass over the bye.

OK, so I gather that the call was right. I had forgotten just how far out the no-call zone extended.

I do second Isis’s notion. It’d be nice to see Varejao keep this moment packed away in his memory bank for a future onrush of Wade near the rim. Not that I’d want him to hurt Wade, but Varejao is tough in his own maniacal way, and I can see him settling the score in one way or another, even if it’s not Shaq-like.

Bud Light has made a brilliant marketing move here! You see, they have made an investment in the people owning these tickets. They know the tickets bought will result in more beer(Bud Light) drank than the actual price of the tickets :P
