While We’re Waiting… Josh Cribbs’ Injury Status

While We’re Waiting (usually) serves as the early morning gathering of WFNY-esque information for your viewing pleasure. Given the late end of last night’s game, today’s WWW has more of a focus…

cribbs-kneelingIf you were able to stomach the entire Browns/Ravens game, you likely caught the final play of the game which involved two laterals until grinding to a screeching halt at the hands of Robert Royal.  Down 16 points, the Browns were apparently trying their hardest to at least cover the 11-point spread; the play, however, resulted in an injury to all-everything return man/wide receiver Josh Cribbs.

After being granted a mythical fourth timeout, Cribbs took a pretty good hit on the final play of the game and was taken off of the field via stretcher.  It was later reported that No. 16 had feeling in all of his extremities, but was carted off for precautionary reasons.  Most recent reports have Cribbs being treated for a concussion.

“Our thoughts and prayers go out to him,” said quarterback Brady Quinn. ”We hope he’s alright. If everyone else can pray for him, we would appreciate it.”

Rookie wide receiver Mohamed Massaquoi feels that Josh is in good hands.  “Our medical staff is going to do a great job to make sure he is healthy and look out for his best interests,” claimed Massaquoi.  “If he’s not able to go, some guys are going to have to pick up the slack.  He’s a tough guy and we are going to make sure he comes back as the same old Josh.”

And those concerned about the moments following the play, tight end Robert Royal added some kind light to the situation.

“He was cracking jokes down there, so that was a good sign.  He was waving his limbs.  We don’t know the extent of the injury, but at the same time we think he will be alright.”

Massaquoi’s quote of “some guys having to pick up slack” could not be more of an understatement if Cribbs is to miss any time.  I can understand wanting to move the ball and put up some points – this team has five touchdowns in 15 games.  However, putting players at risk so you can lose by less than double digits looks incredibly silly.

More on this as it becomes available.

I hope Cribbs gets better soon. And I hope he doesn’t get staph. The team doctors are great, but we’ve heard less than positive things about the team’s facilities in the past.

    Get well soon, Cribbs.

Direct quote passed along by a friend who was on the field last night “Just passed the ravens bench. they were laughing at the offensive play calling. saying their children have more intricate schemes”

I admittedly left the game with 12 minutes left, so I didn’t see what happened to Cribbs. It’s not an understatement to say he’s largely the heart and soul of a good portion of this team.

As for the Brown out, as I texted Scott just before the game’s kickoff, it was an EPIC FAIL. I’m also pretty sure Dawg Pound Mike (two sections over from my seats) got heckled pretty good on his way in.

I was at the game. I stayed until the end. Over 2/3rds of the people remaining at the game, albeit there were not that many fans there in general, were more concerned with berating and shouting insults toward the other players instead of being respectful and showing some concern that the heart & soul of this team had been injured. perhaps this attitude, which i believe is classless and trashy, has more to do with the deterioration of this franchise than some of us are willing to admit. i hope Josh is ok and i can’t believe this has happened so needlessly. just when we didn’t think things could really get any worse….

If that Boston trade goes down you can officially kiss any thought of salary cap flexibility for them goodbye. I don’t think this trade makes them any better as I think Nocioni is a more expensive version of Marquis Daniels.

They might as well put the flags in the quarterbacks pockets and let those guys throw them at will. The worst part about that call on Trusnik last night was the obvious hand on his back pushing him, which the refs conveniently failed to miss.

I seriously feel sorry for Cribbs and anyone else on offense since they are being directed by an epileptic puppeteer.

LeBron James will score more points in the first half of tonight’s game than the Browns will for the rest of the season.

Cribbs could have been hurt in the 2nd quarter on a similar play. Or…..some 3rd stringer could have been leveled on that play to end the game. I’m not sure what being down 16 with no chance of winning has to do with it. Did you honestly expect them to just run the clock out or take a knee? Had Cribbs been running a post pattern to the end zone made it any better? Injuries happen.
