7000 Tickets Remain for Browns vs. Lions, Silverdome Sold
Written By: Craig | Category: Cleveland Browns | Comments: 11How many times in the histories of these two cities would a game not sell out? I know the Indians and Tigers don’t sell out over the summer, but there are enough Tigers fans who make the trip to Cleveland for me to know there should be interest enough to sell out an NFL game. That is, of course, unless you are talking about two of the worst teams in the NFL. Buffalo, St. Louis and Oakland aren’t going quietly in the race to the bottom, but Cleveland and Detroit definitely both belong in the conversation. So this clash of the titans will definitely be blacked out in Detroit this weekend as Cleveland fans will assuredly not be able to motivate themselves enough to go to Detroit for this horror-fest of a game.
This news comes on the heels of Detroit selling the Silverdome this week. And let me tell you, if we could afford the monthly upkeep and the taxes, it wouldn’t have taken too many of us banding together to buy the dome. Imagine the parties we could have in that place? And the final selling price? A cool $583,000.
In 2005, suburban developers headed by the firm Schostak Brothers offered nearly $20 million for the Silverdome, but the deal fell apart as the city delayed taking the offer.
And last year, a $17.5-million plan to turn it into a horse racetrack, hotel and conference center also fell through.
Things aren’t rosy in Cleveland either, but wow. At least here, whether you agree with legalized casino gambling or not, there is something being built. In Detroit entire football stadiums are being sold for the price of a smallish mansion in one of the Cleveland suburbs. But at least they won’t have to watch the Lions and Browns do battle this weekend on TV. I am sure many of you Browns fans wish we could say the same thing.

Amen to that. I watch every Tuesday out of obligation I guess. I guess I’ll be able to tell my children and grandchildren about the year I watched the NFL’s worst offense in history. I won’t feel bad in the least when they are blacked out here though. Cincinnati is pretty fun to watch.
“AT LEAST WE’RE NOT DETROIT. WE’RE NOT DETROIT!”
@#2 .. come and look at both of our buildings…
Ill be at UM for the OSU game and if somebody gives me a ticket Ill go watch the Browns on the next day… No chance in hell Im paying for a ticket after wasting money on Browns season tickets.
I’m actually playing Detroits DEF in FF this week. I hafta watch this game!
I’m actually looking forward to this game. It feels like a JV game against reasonably matched teams. We should get a chance to see what some of these guys can do – and if they’ve got any heart/pride/desire left.
They’ve never found any kind of rhythm this season. It would be nice to at least see a few sustained drives… and maybe then we can identify a few young guys that hold promise for the future. Quinn didn’t stand a chance in the pocket on Monday. Will be interesting to see how he responds with another second or two to set-up and find his receiver. If (God forbid) they throw a long ball… hopefully he can at least put it in the field of play.
@ #6 DieHard from Seattle:
I actually completely agree. This may be one of the more fun games to watch this year (along with Oakland), simply because of how evenly matched the teams are. So sad, but true.
When will people start getting outraged about how stadiums are funded? Hopefully things will start to change with cities and states running huge deficits and finally realizing that using tax dollars to build stadiums and arenas is a joke. If people are truly upset about government spending and waste, this is the first area they should look.
The city of Pontiac got screwed and I guarantee the folks that own the Lions couldn’t care less.
I dont understand why people wouldnt want to watch a close game

I love that video.
There’s some tool at work who claims his bro-in-law was part of the investment team to buy the Silverdome. They plan to make it a soccer stadium and eventually host the World Cup. That’s all just hear-say though. (From the guy who sailed his sailboat he ‘bought’ in China back to the states over the summer. Funny, he was only gone a week.) Take it FWIW.
Whats the radius of the blackout?, does anybody know?
