Ohio State vs. UNC – “Highlights”
Written By: Craig | Category: General, Ohio State Buckeyes | Comments: 6I missed the Ohio State UNC game last night and headed to ESPN this morning to check out the highlights. According to what I read, Ohio State made a bit of a run at the end of the game to make it interesting. Then again, according to the “highlight” video on ESPN, UNC scored 5 buckets and Ohio State didn’t score any.
I know it isn’t truly important, because UNC basketball clearly has the larger audience. Then again, as Scott said in an email this morning, “Not to mention that Evan Turner could be drafted higher than any Tar Heel…” Why not have a more substantial package of plays that include Ohio State’s run at the favorite, UNC? Why not have a second video available for Ohio State fans? I am sure the World Wide Leader can easily hire an extra couple of production interns to put up some extra highlights. It was a long game and I am quite positive the story of the game was not told by showing 5 UNC baskets and Ohio State’s scrambling defense.

I disagree. Outside of the final 4 minutes of the game Ohio State was very clearly outplayed by UNC. I give the Buckeyes credit for their furious comeback, and maybe they could have shown some “highlights” (I put that in quotations because the last 4 minutes were incredibly sloppy by both teams) but the score was not indicative of how close the game really was.
“Not to mention that Evan Turner could be drafted higher than any Tar Heel…”
Not if he keeps putting up 10 turnovers a game.
It amazes me how much people whine about ESPN around here. It is a very simple thing to ignore. Just don’t watch it. Or go to the site.
i love how OSU fans play the victim all the time. in reality, few schools receive more favorable press than OSU. espn showed more unc highlights bc they won the game, thus, chances are that the important baskets were the ones they made, more often than not. ever watch cavs highlights on espn? you’d think that in any game it was lebron vs 5 guys that dont matter. only highlights are lebron dunks, threes and drives- like no one else is on the court. as they say, to the victor goes the spoils (or in this case, the highlights).
Yeah… if OSU won, they’d probably get the lion’s share of the highlights. UNC is the top dog in the NCAA… who else would get the highlights?
Bottom line, interest in college basketball is not high right now so the highlight packages are kept short. You can say why not add one or two more highlights, but that’s another 10-20 seconds added on to the package which is a lot in TV terms. That’s not to mention the added production time. Could I see showing the shot that pulled Ohio State to its smallest deficit of the game? Sure. But it’s not that important.
Also, there’s a good chance most of the highlight package was done before the game was even over.
