Open Thread: Browns vs. Bengals

Written By:  Denny   |  Category:  Cleveland Browns   |  Comments:   48

browns, bengals

The Cleveland Football Browns play the Cincinnati Bengals today at Paul Brown Stadium (1PM, CBS, WTAM 1100).  The Browns lost the first game in the season set at home back in Week 6. Today the Browns look for “revenge” against the Fightin’ Striped Felons Tiger Kitties.  Follow along here, leave your thoughts, and remember: just like the dad at the end of Boondock Saints said, “You must watch dear. It’ll all be over soon.”

    Untouched.

  • 5. November 29, 2009

Sigh. Just when things are looking up, Quinn’s on his back.

  • 6. November 29, 2009

This defense is getting torn apart – though this Roth character looks to be legit.

wonderful play calling as usual i wish quinn would start changing the plays at the line if he’s that good at reading defenses.

So they deactivate their second round pick (Robiskie) in order to start a guy they picked up off the waiver wire from Green Bay (Jake Allen)? Please please please for the love of JoBernie can we get a GM and head coach in there that won’t pick guys to not play them?

Looking a lot like these guys blew their wad last week. Stuckey is gawd awful. I don’t understand how Harrison isn’t on the field more, he makes plays.

This is painful to watch so far. Quinn looks fine, dropped passes, awful tackling and Rich Gannon or making me angry. And they won’t like me, when I’m, ahh, screw it.

why do they not call time outs when the bengals have first and goal inside the 2 minute warning? the bengals cant get a first down, so all youre doing is giving your offense more time when they get the ball after the score. i dont get that.

What was Mangini so upset about??

  • Nasty-Dawg
    16. November 29, 2009

he’s probably upset cause his offensive coord. is going to get him fired at the end of the season. how many more years of this run, run, incomplete pass crap do i have to endure with this sorry team!

  • 17. November 29, 2009

    Pros:
    Matt Roth and Kam Wimbley

    Cons:
    EVERYTHING else.

Seriously, both the clock management and Shaun Rogers Blockhead Play of the Week were horrendous. How do you NOT just run three times and either make Cincy burn their timeouts or end the half? And, that last play by Rogers… flat out dumb. It doesn’t matter whether it was to the letter of the horse collar rule at all (I think Mangini argued that it wasn’t a “true” horse-collar”) to think they wouldn’t call it on a quarterback is stupid. Situational awareness. There was none there.

Our receivers are awful. Quinn looks “OK”, but when nobody can catch the ball with any consistency…

Defense is doing OK, but they will be worn down entirely by the fourth quarter at this rate.

Can’t wait to go out and rake leaves…

  • 18. November 29, 2009

Does 3 points really make that big of a diffirence? This game is over regardless… Not to mention Bengals get the ball at the half.

When are we gonna give Robiskie some burn? And is it possible to cut Poteat in the middle of the game, just send him home? I’ll throw in on his salary.

Browns Receivers take note….let Brady Quinn show you how to catch the ball…lol.

Quinn can’t blame the receivers recently. A couple of nice catches on bad balls.

    28. November 29, 2009

hey lets go for it on 4th down so we can play conservative and run some clock. i mean what do we have to lose other than being the 1st team too double digit loses. what a joke this team i love has become.

How soon can we get weis in here for daboll?

  • mews
    30. November 29, 2009

Are we trying to give up two 100 yard runners in one game? AND Wimbley’s hurting. Gannon… Please, somebody shut him up.

  • 31. November 29, 2009

If Rogers is done for the year, the Browns will lose to Pittsburgh and San Diego by a combined 436-0.

  • Wiggles
    32. November 29, 2009

    Shouldn’t someone block that guy?

    @29

Why do you want Weis? Here’s an idea: let’s not pick up coaches that were just fired. It’s currently not working out very well with the last time we did that.

Please Randy, pay Holmgren, fire Mangini, and let the healing begin.

  • 35. November 29, 2009

@#34: While I don’t disagree with the point of hiring just-fired coaches re: Mangini, Weis is hardly a fair comparison. Bringing him in to do a job (OC) that he did quite, quite well previously on the NFL level with a QB that he is very familiar with is not really a bad move.

Why Weis would come here, though… that’s a fair question to ask.

  • Tommy
    36. November 29, 2009

Weis would be able to help brady progress… mangini and ryan will take care of the defense eventually. Notre Dame never had a problem with offense. Both Quinn and Clausen became great qbs under weis.

  • BomberDawg
    37. November 29, 2009

    I say can Quinn too.

  • Tommy
    38. November 29, 2009

    @ 35
Unless he can get the oc job back with the Pats, why would he not come to the browns? He believes Brady can be a good nfl qb and he has worked with mangini in the past. I doubt he would want to take a head coaching job at a lesser college program.

I would love to see Weis as browns OC… still a line and some WR is more important.

Looking at the comments and box score, I’m glad I spent the past 8 hours driving with Thanksgiving traffic rather than watching the game.

We need to start a collection fund to get Browns players/coaches their money. Pay Holgrem. Pay Gruden. Pay Cribbs. Pay Dawson. I will gladly throw in. While this may not work with the current capped system the NFL has, we can create small dummy corporations that can give “gifts” to the people we want. Best part is, those “gifts” won’t be taxed if we keep them below $10k.

Sorry, game is so terrible I am thinking of just about anything else…

  • MrCleaveland
    42. November 29, 2009

Our receivers absolutely suck. And Robiskie still can’t beat out any of them. What a disaster.

BTW, I am sick to death of the Browns on first down handing off to Lewis for 2 yards. Over and over and over again. How about mixing in a play fake every month or so? Or a draw play. Or a shovel/shuttle/shuffle pass. You know, plays that are in every team’s playbook but ours.

This team is just full of rank amateurs.

Yeah! The return of Daboll’s vaunted R2P2 offense (run, run, pass, punt). Is there any team in the NFL that would employ this guy, other than one were Mangini is calling the shots?

How many actual NFL players does this team have? Josh Cribbs. D-Jackson. The overrated Joe Thomas. Maybe Mack. And then……

Still trying to decide if this team has worse talent than 1999.

What a complete catastrophe. You need a GM, head coach, QB, RB, a full complement of receivers, and more or less an entire defense.

Things change quickly in the NFL but I can’t even imagine this franchise winning more than 6 games for four years. And if they keep Man-gina I couldn’t imagine 6 TOTAL wins in that span.

  • 47. November 30, 2009

How can you say Joe Thomas is overrated??

Watch the Browns’ running game and ask yourself if he is not.
