Cavs v. Bucks/Browns v. Chargers Open Thread
Written By: Denny | Category: Cleveland Browns | Comments: 98The Cleveland Basketball Cavaliers are taking on the Milwaukee Bucks today, starting at 3:00 (FSOhio, WTAM 1100). As touched on in this morning’s WWW, LeBron will be facing off with rookie sensation Brandon ‘I score lots of points and stole Chris Bosh’s haircut’ Jennings.
Starting slightly later, the Cleveland Football Browns take on the San Diego Chargers today (4:05 PM, CBS, WTAM 1100? Check WMMS, as they’ll have coverage for sure. Stereo simulcast? YES PLS!) in a revolution that will, in fact, be televised. Check out our ‘BWWI’ post from Friday for some pointers (and lots of comments about people’s fantasy teams).
So join us in watching the games, leave some comments, and mostly let’s just enjoy each other’s company.

Delonte West is going nuts
Wow… a Robiskie sighting… that’s like seeing the Lochness Monster. Rare.
Third down conversion is almost as rare too.
Wow, the Cavs D really dropped the ball in the last few minutes of the half. They were at 19 with 4 minutes left.
Oh well, GO CAVS!
GO BROWNS?
St. Clair with holding in the Red Zone.
Really is there no one else to get at his position?
Wooo! Man the stands look empty…..I wonder why?????
Off-fensive touch-down?
Quinn 6 for 6 with a TD, efficient drive, why do we not get these play calls every drive of every game? Dabol needs to go.
What is going on!?!? What a drive!
Offensive TD… looks like the Chargers haven’t gotten off the plane yet. Nice drive… No passes from Quinn that made me hold my breath, grit my teeth, throw my laptop or kick my dog. Progress.
We actually looked like an NFL offense. I am so confused…
DWest is such a ball hog! Going 4 for 4 from the field and 6 for 6 from the line.
Jeez, what is with that kid. Pass the ball!! Oh, 2 assists as well? Man.
Anyone have a video link to the game?
Saints managed to tie before the clock ran out. Wow.
CJ Mosely being carted off. More injuries, what we needed?
Lebron is cold today. 2-8
Nice throw… but man… Robiskie is sloooow.
wow…..and he’s been sitting why? haha here’s to a few more of those today
Robiskie!!!
Aw man… here we go.
66 yard TD pass to FULLBACK?! Ouch.
DWest with the block!
Daboll should somehow script the entire game so that his play calling doesn’t revert to:
- Lewis/Practice squad guy up the middle
- Lewis/Practice squad guy up the middle
- 3rd and long ineffective pass to Jet Receiver / Practice squad guy – Punt
the Raiders beat the Steelers! HAW HAW!
@ben
THIS
If you look at the pattern of 1st down play calling I’m not surprised at how ineffective the run is.
This Moore fellow is pretty impressive so far.
Again, 1st down run up the middle, gain of 2.
Agree with Tim. Moore has been solid.
Cavs being really agressive on defense today. Good to see them string some defensive effort together in several games.
Fumble. Typical.
oh come on.
dang.
It’s amazing that ball stayed in bounds.
Ian Eagle (eye-on, really?) needs to shut up. Mangini should take NO pride in anything this he’s done. this year.
Man…. so you want to return punts? Watch that last hit Cribbs took and think bout that.
Cavs win 101-86
We pushed their player into the ball, so I think we’re not going to keep this.
We bettet draft Suh.
Yup. Sigh. Why did I think it would be any different?
Man, now Robaire is hurt.
@Tim… we need like 3 Big Suh’s.
Rogers and Suh in the 4-3?
We should have Rogers and Williams in the 4-3 with Wimbley at end and another DE. Then we’d have Jackson as a great MLB and we’d need 2 OLB. But, it wont happen.
I think that as long as we keep Rogers, we should focus our draft picks somewhere other than DT. Suh is an amazing player, but we have Rogers, and Rubin seems like he’ll be a decent player. I want Eric Berry in the 1st round and then LB, OT, RB, and CB with the slew of picks we’ll have after the 1st round.
Ugh I hate having Gates against me in Fantasy Football. All they have to do is lob it up and he gets 40 yards.
The Browns need to take the absolute BEST PLAYER AVAILABLE, regardless of position. How can we really go wrong with that? Outside of LT probably.
Gates is ripping the Browns apart. This is unreal.
I think some holes are bigger than others on this team, and you need to address the biggest ones first. The defensive backfield and linebackers need more help than the defensive line, and on the other side of the ball, the right side of the offensive line and possibly the running backs are also worse than the defensive line. I don’t think the QB matters next year, so I hope we don’t draft another “franchise QB.”
Nice awareness, Quinn, walk right into the only person who could sack you.
@Tim… I aggree w/ about where the holes are and in a normal situation, I would take a pass on DT. However, the me I see of Suh, the more I see Reggie White. It seems like Suh would not only be a pro-bowl calibre player, but, with the motor he has, he would really lead the d and the whole team by example.
Yeah, I wouldn’t be disappointed if we picked Suh. I feel the same way about Berry, though. I think he could be a leader and a playmaker on the defense for years to come. If we did get Suh, switching to a 4-3 seems like the smart move to make. Maybe being the only 4-3 in the division could be an advantage, especially with two amazing tackles.
Dunno… I think Suh would play just as well as an end in the 3-4 scheme. Either way, w/ him and Rogers on the field at the same time you have two guys that are un-blockable 1 on 1.
BTW Berry is the the 2nd best safety available in this draft. Taylor Mays can do everything Berry can do and is 20 pounds heavier and a couple inches taller so he can come in the box and really make a difference against the run. Which in our division is critical. Anyway, I would not draft any safety ever in the top 5. You can get pretty good players for that position in later rounds.
Hmmm… so we are gonna wildcat our way back into the game
Mays has had a terrible year and been exposed as a guy who can’t cover anyone. Berry is much better and actually Kurt Coleman has had a much better Senior campaign than Taylor Mays has.
Mays has disappointed a lot this year, and he’s even being rated as the 3rd best safety now behind Berry and Earl Thomas from Texas. ESPN had a segment on him where he was seemingly letting up and not hitting receivers the way you would expect him to, which resulted in TDs or first downs for opposing teams. Mays is bigger, but I think Berry is smarter and more athletic, and Berry can still hit even though he’s smaller. You’re probably right about not drafting a safety in the top-5 though. I wish we were good enough to not be picking so high and tying up so much money there.
Allowing LT to pass Jim Brown on the all time rushing list against the Browns would really be adding insult to injury.
But hey BQ and Cribbs looked good on that last drive!
Yeah, I’m tired of running backs setting records against the Browns, and something that involves passing Jim Brown would be even worse than usual. Browns have looked competent at times today, which is always an improvement.
LOL… here come the OSU homers. Kurt Coleman. Hilarious.
Mays has been hurt and is taking alot of the blame for all the other d talent USC lost. He’s not a 1 on 1 cover guy, anyway, and NO safety in the NFL is either. I agree he had a bad year and as I said, I wouldn’t draft any safety higher than like 15 to 20. If he falls further than that, someone is gona get a steal.
LT saluted Jim Brown in his suite at least. I’ve always liked Tomlinson, so it could be a lot worse.
Well then state that he should be picked around 15-20, which is a good assessment, and don’t say we should draft him where we’re picking. Break down some tape and look at the two and you can see that Coleman has had a better year, I don’t care who USC lost or what happened. That has nothing to do with him tackling, hitting hard, and being able to cover his man when a CB gets beat.
Man… those are some diehards there in the stands. Gotta respect that.
S-Dub, do you actually break down tape? Because that would be impressive.
Eric Berry has had 14 interceptions in his three-year career, while Taylor Mays has had 5 in four years. Plus, Berry has played in a tougher conference, and he’s even picked off the incomparable Tim Tebow twice (ok, that’s a joke, but still, Berry’s been an amazing safety on an average team in the SEC).
S-dub….
Last I’ll say on the safetys…. being hurt will affect tackling, etc.
You can have Kurt Coleman. I don’t want any current OSU player other than Cameron Heyward anywhere near my NFL teams roster.
I don’t want Cam Heyward on any NFL roster next year … he should come back and play for OSU (which he’s considering at the very least)
So Mangini benches Quinn for half the season and keeps Robiskie inactive for most of the games since trading Edwards…
Yep, that Mangini. Great evaluator of talent. The sooner he’s shown the door the better.
Yay Jerome Harrison. Good things happen when he’s allowed to get the ball.
WOW… we aren’t dead!
Figures we get the onside kick after the 2-point conversion fails.
Yep… I really have to wonder if Mangini isnt tanking on purpose. If Harrison and Quinn had started all year we might have 4 – 5 wins. And a worse draft position.
HURRY UP QUINN!!
Ya Mangini, that Quinn kid just sucks.
You’re a schmuck. Quinn should be here longer than you.
Was it Mangini’s plan or his ego? Either way the punk’s gotta go.
REALLY GOOD THING THAT HARRISON AND ROBESKIE WERE WELL RESTED FOR THIS GAME BY THEIR PREVIOUS DEACTIVATIONS, KUDOS TO MANGINI FOR RESTING THEM ALL SEASON FOR THIS GAME
I bet Harrison and Robiskie had legitimate complaints against the way Mangini does things like the rest of the team probably does.
40 yard pass while falling backwards and almost gets the TD to Robiski.
Yep, those two definitely have shown why they were sitting the bench most of the season.
I hope Bernie is pointing all this out to Lerner.
Only thing bigger than Mangini’s ego is Rob/Rex Ryan’s gut(s).
Why call the timeouts there? Just let the 17 people still in the stadium go home.
sigh.
Cleveland Browns 2009: The Lost Season.
Wilcox complimented Mangini’s coaching not long after he talked about how the Cowboys beat the Giants earlier in the year (they didn’t)… How does this guys still have a job?
How does Mangini?
Subadai’s right. Sigh.
Nice avatar, Brian.
On the bright side. We lost to a good team and the Steelers lost to a bad one… so by my calculation… we are better than the Steelers this week!
How’s that for optimism?
i am so sick of guys dropping balls. jerome dropped a couple and momass didn’t even make a play on a couple. plus, i thought robiskie may have been able to make that play at the end of the game in the end zone. just proves that we need A LOT of help in the draft.
@Jack: Actually, yes I do as much as possible at least. I can’t get coaches tapes but I watch highlight tapes on YouTube and constantly Tivo games and run them back and watch certain aspects of certain games. I also watch all the college and NFL network shows that break down plays. Granted, it’s a limited assessment but I try to watch as much as possible to gain a lot of knowledge.
Last year I was watching a lot of tape on Aaron Curry, wanted him bad, but we couldn’t get him.
Yeah, an elite WR would’ve pulled down that one in the endzone, but I think Robiskie did a good job just preventing the interception. Quinn just threw that one up for grabs.
Consider me impressed. I feel like that’s probably a much more in-depth/rich assessment than that conducted by the Browns’ front office personnel since their reincarnation…
…by the way, can we even in call it a reincarnation as this implies a return to life.
Oh, and remember when Bruce Gradkowski led his team to a win over the Steelers. We dumped the Steeler Beater!
How’s Curry doing this year? I really liked him too. I was really sad he didn’t fall to us. Granted that “falling” to us wouldn’t have been some huge drop.
Subadai … had Curry been there at 5 they wouldn’t have traded out of the pick to the Jets
Nice to see the Browns cover the spread for the last few games at least
Nullster…
Sigh, again…
Thanks for reminding me, Capt. Bringdown. LOL.
Curry has 55 tackles, 2 sacks and 2 forced fumbles. No the Seahawks don’t blitz much and their pass rush is non-existent. I suspect that Curry would be a lot better on a team where he could blitz a lot, instead of drop into coverage.
I haven’t watched any games with him in Seattle though.
S-dub… thanks.
I agree about the blitzing… That was the thing that I REALLY liked about him. You don’t see alot of really well-polished OLBs come out of college that have pass rush skills as well. He has it all, size, speed, strong at the point of attack, strong in pursuit, strong in coverage AND blitzing/pass-rush skills. That guy was a slam dunk draft pick.
I agree subadai, I really wanted Curry too, and it seems like he’s having a solid rookie year.
I don’t want to see the Browns draft Ndamkong? Suh. I dont think he has the size to play DT in our 3-4. And with Shaun Rogers, he’s not needed. We can get a cheaper backup for Rogers. That being said. I was impressed with his play last night. 12 tackles and 4.5 sacks. Who wouldn’t be impressed? You have to question McCoy’s awareness.. but it seemed like Suh was in the backfield almost as much as McCoy was. If we draft him we’d have to slide him over to DE. Maybe we could move to a 4-3 and play Hall or Wimbley, Williams, Rogers, and Suh on the line and Hall or Wimbley, Jackson, and Barton to fill out the front 7. We are in dire need of a pass rush. Suh could help in that area. We definitely don’t draft him 1st overall. We’d have to move back. Maybe we could pick up a second rounder to try and fill in some holes in our secondary.
So where have bobby and the rest of the DA guys been lately?
Matty Fos thats the worst argument possible against drafting Suh. Also he is going top 2 so either we take him where we are or not at all.
I say 4-3 with rogers ans suh.
I was at the game today, and I was really impressed with Quinn for the most part. It seems like the timing between him and the WRs could get a little better because there were a few plays that if Quinn would have thrown right at or before the WR cutting it could have went for a big game… but that would require our WRs to have awareness (and I mean WRs, he throws to TEs a lot right before the cut and he hits their head). Overall the O looked pretty solid. The big problem was the D. I definitely want to see Eric Berry become a brown. He would help out our secondary a lot in pass Defense. Our LBs dont seem to do very well in pass coverage either, but they are also 3/4 backups by now.
Suh would play DE in the 3-4 for us, think Ngata for the Ravens. Sadly, even if all three teams end up with one loss you know we won’t have the first draft pick as we’d lose the coin toss as well. Suh would be our best option, Berry our second. If someone else wanted to move up that would be a great choice, move to about 10 and pick up Taylor Mays.
Who is Evan Moore, when did we sign him, and why hasn’t he been here all season? Bye bye Robert Royal, your services are no longer required…thank god.
Oh hi guys. I caught a bit of the Cavs on Gameday, blowout victory all the way. When I first turned it on, the 5 guys in the game had: 8 points, 8 points, 8 points, 8 points, 9 points. Wow, they really split the work. Awesome job.
Also, help me out: people keep telling me Cleveland has a football team(?) I dunno what they’re talking about. Oh well. Nice game, Cavs!
Jack- I do agree Suh would be nice, but the secondary needs something. Brodney Pool could very well be done for his career with his concussion problems and I dont want to see Poteat out on the field ever again. I’ve read things saying that Berry makes an average D in Tennessee into a great D. Not saying it will be that big of a difference here, but he does have the ability to make some big time plays. Berry is a ball hawk, and we need that much more then we need a power hitting safety like Mays. Now, this all could not matter if Berry decides to stay in school another year, but right now I would have Berry at 1 and Suh at 2 (or 1b).
Anyway you look at it, I think we need get a great defensive team. I believe the rest of the season will show that our offense is in fact better when we aren’t trying to run 20+ times with a stutter step. We have a lot of young pieces here that could develop together and become a decent O. Our defense needs to become dominant though. We cant give up 3, 4, 5 first downs in a drive and expect to compete. Our starting field position for the offense was awful today. Now granted we have what, 5 starters out on D, but none of them are true playmakers. I think Roth might become a good option across from Wimbley. We have Jackson up the middle, and Maiava is showing promise. In the secondary its Eric Wright and…..
