Braylon Down, But Not Out…For Long

Written By:  Scott   |  Category:  Cleveland Browns   |  Comments:   7

As briefly mentioned in the Gary Baxter thread, Braylon Edwards was carted off of the field yesterday and admitted himself to the hospital a bit later in the evening.  Mary Kay Cabot has the details:

Edwards suffered the cut on his foot when he was running lightly in his socks during a special teams period Saturday afternoon with some other receivers. According to a photographer who was shooting the session, Edwards and fellow receiver Donte Stallworth were vying for the lead when Stallworth’s cleat gashed Edwards’ right heel.

Now, what I would like to know is who thought it would be a good idea to race without shoes on?  Perhaps it was one of those “boys will be boys” moments where Edwards thought he could race Stallworth without the aid of shoes?  Who knows.

The Plain Dealer says that the receiver will likely miss the preseason game against the Giants.  I’m just praying that he doesn’t come down with the dreaded _ _ _ _ _.  I refuse to jinx it.  If you don’t get what I’m saying, three hints are Joe Jurevicius, LeCharles Bentley and Brian Russell.

Fingers are crossed…

Buddy heard this at a bar last night. Said they were wrestling. Apparently the story grew legs with the assistance of one Capt. Morgan.

I’ve defended Braylon to the ends of the earth when he drops the easy ones (I have a friend who is such an OSU homer that, despite a 16-TD season he takes every chance he can get to rip on BE for a dropped pass), but to be running around in socks with guys wearing cleats… it’s just dumb. He may not be out long (although the Staph Gods have not yet had their say, which they always seem to do around here), but it’s still just dumb. Not quite “flipping over the handlebars of your motorcycle while pulling wheelies” dumb, but when are we going to get some smart freakin’ players??

    Another thought:

    Donte Stallworth = Tonya Harding?

Can any eyewitnesses confirm deny: was Braylon laying on the field bawling screaming “WHHYYYY?? WHYYYYYY???”
