Browns vs. Raiders Blackout Deadline Set for 1 PM Saturday

As referenced in yesterday’s WWW, the Cleveland Browns have not yet sold out all of their tickets for their contest tomorrow afternoon against the Oakland Raiders. According to the fancy restrictions of the NFL television contracts, such a non-sell would result in a TV-blackout of this game within a 75-mile radius of the stadium. That does not apply to certain fans lingering on the east coast or in Columbus, but directly hits all those Northeast Ohioans looking to finish their weekend with some Brownies.

Looking for a third consecutive win, this is no good sign for the entire franchise. President Mike Holmgren should be studying to see why this is happening alongside owner Randy Lerner in an effort to get the fan base excited for the future. Sure, the potential match-up between Derek Anderson and former Akron Zip Charlie Frye is not the best in the world, but it still has some value. Keep an eye out for all of the developments and we will be sure to update when the official word comes down from the NFL.

UPDATE: As mentioned in the comments below, the Browns bought up all of the tickets and the game will be televised locally. Rejoice, so now we can appreciate the blossoming of the Anderson/Frye rivalry on sparkling HD!

PD’s reporting the Browns bought up the remaining tickets and the game will be televised: http://www.cleveland.com/browns/index.ssf/2009/12/cleveland_browns_avoid_blackou_1.html

Hopefully the fact that this is the third time this season they’ve had to do this and will most likely have to do it again next week gives Holmgren & Lerner reason to pause and really consider if Mangini is the person they want taking this team forward.

Clearly, the fans have spoken. Will the team listen?

Damn right they out to buy up these tickets. Pity the organizations that have to now find people to go.

Last season, for the final game at home against Cinci, I observed a few tickets taped to tree trunks on my E. 9th St. walking route, free to whomever. There were no takers that I saw.

Urban Meyer is leaving Florida for “health” reasons: http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/news/story?id=4772952

Please tell me his next stop is not going to be Cleveland. As much as he’d be an improvement over the current coach, it’s painfully clear that college coaches don’t work in the NFL.
