The 5-Hole: Blue Jackets News and Notes – 2/2/10
February 2, 2010Cavaliers Preview Game #50: Grizzlies at Cavs
February 2, 2010Your Eastern Conference leading Cleveland Cavaliers announced this morning that PG Cedric Jackson has signed a second, 10-day contract. As much as I like Cedric and his story of getting to the the Cavaliers, the second 10-day is not a great sign in regards to the progress of Delonte West and his broken ring finger on his shooting hand.
West is clearly still a ways from being active, therefore the former CSU star gets an extended audition with the Wine and Gold. Ced has only seven garbage time in four games, playing seven minutes and making a single free throw. With the luxury of having such a versatile player as Lebron James who can play the point when needed, Jackson hasn’t been called upon.
Coach Mike Brown has been rather flippant in the times he has been asked about Jackson. When broached about the end of his 10-day contract, Brown said “He’s a good guy and I haven’t seen whether or not he could play, so I’m OK with him being around.” Sounds a lot like he is just filling a roster spot until Delonte is ready and that is about it.
In regards to Delonte’s finger injury, its probably best that he sits through the all star break to let the finger properly heal. With the longest homestand of the year under way and the break just 10 days away, its better to err on the side of caution. What’s most important is being completely healthy for the playoffs. No need to rush Delonte back. Boobie Gibson has done a nice job filling the starting role in his place, and the Cavaliers continue to win.
Depth is a beautiful thing.

Perhaps someone can introduce Mr. Jackson to Coach Brown over the course of the next few days, you know, let them at least get acquainted a bit.
Greg Brinda had Windy on yesterday, and he asked about Delonte. Windy said that if this were the playoffs then he would be playing. But since it is kind of weak schedule to the break, he is going to rest it. There is no reason to rush him back from a broken finger.
gotta love the C-State Viking getting burn for the Cavs alongside a St. Ed grad.
just like seeing a Kent State star being the 2nd best player on the Browns.
and…well, and….hmmm….noone comes to mind from the Tribe. Anyone we should single out?
@mgbode
Scott Lewis went to OSU, I guess that kind of counts
I agree. D-West isn’t really needed right now at the chance of furthing the severity of the finger injury. Let him rest until after the All-Star break. Then we start to get ready for the postseason.
Oh, and Coach – Let the kid play. If you don’t know what you got with him, you ain’t gonna know unless you play him. I’m sure there’s more than 7 seconds in a game where he could play. That’s just cruel.
Excuse me, Mr. Ferry…if you’re looking for someone to join the orginization, come out for warm-ups, and sit on the bench for 47 minutes and 53 seconds, by all means, call me.
Is there a limit to the number of 10-day contracts a player can be signed to? For some reason, I want to say it’s two. And if that’s the case, I’d really like to see him get some playing time during this second stint – just so we know what’s there if he’s (no offense C-Jack, hopefully not) needed.
you can only sing two, 10-day contracts. Then you either get signed for the rest of the year, or you are cut.
or SIGN two of them
Wondering whether if they were on the road they would activate Delonte just to have his teammates monitor him while he stayed with the team.
Two is the limit for 10-days, after which they would have to sign him for the remainder of the season if they were still interested.
How about Brian Bixler for the Tribe? He’s from right here in Sandusky, Ohio and the Tribe picked him up last month. We’ll see what he can do, but it is nice to see some local people getting to play for the local teams.
@ big show – we had an interview with him last week. Like fo’ realsies.
Cedric Jackson is what my dad calls a rent-a-guy.
