Cavs v. Knicks Preview

Written By:  Denny   |  Category:  Cleveland Cavaliers   |  Comments:   40

Cavaliers Knicks BasketballThe 40-11 Cavs continue their nice February stretch of games tonight at the Q against the 19-30 New York Knickerbockers (WTAM 1100, FSN Ohio). The Cavs have won their last 10 straight, while the Knicks are coming in 3-7 over their last 10 games.

The Knicks do, however, have more participants in the upcoming All-Star Weekend (salty point! LET’S ALL REVOLT!!!), with Nate Robinson scheduled to require 15 attempts at each dunk defend his title in the dunk contest, and Danilo Gallinari representing the Fightin’ New York Pants in the Three-Point Contest.

Team Statistics:

Cleveland Offense: 101.1 PPG, 111 pts/100 poss, 48.5 FG%, 53.4 eFG%, 26.3 FTA, 16% T/O, 108.1 Off Eff (Rank: 5); Defense: 93.8 PPG, 103 pts/100 poss, 43.0 FG%, 46.8 eFG%, 24.6 FTA, 14% T/O 99.5 Def. Eff (Rank: 3)

New York Offense: 100.8 PPG, 106 pts/100 poss, 45.0 FG%, 50.3 eFG%, 21.1 FTA, 15% T/O, 104.0 Off. Eff (Rank: 16); Defense: 103.8 PPG, 109 pts/100 poss, 47.3 FG%, 51.1 eFG%, 23.5 FTA, 15% T/O, 106.3 Def. Eff (Rank: 21)

The Cavs are still without Mo Williams and Delonte West. JJ Hickson has been the soup du jour as of late, playing well in the last few games (most notably actually catching the basketball sometimes!).

This could be a let-down game, if not for the home crowd. The Cavs have been playing extremely well as of late, and should be able to put the game out of reach early.

I need a win tonight… preferably a blowout. It would be nice to be on the other side of one today.

Dayton beating Xavier by 25 was my massive sports excitement for the day. I’m pretty relaxed for yet another win over those siller Knickerbockers.

Just wanted to say how much I enjoyed the Lakers and
    Magic losing last night.

No Cavs game tonight here on TWC down at UD. I’ll be relying upon the box score unless someone has a link.

Using the same link that Mark’s using.

Great half for the Cavs, setting a season high score total for half.

I still can’t believe Lebron has never scored 50 in the Q. Let’s hope we see that tonight.

  • 16. February 6, 2010

    @15

That is absurd. I would never believe that. I bet he can get that.

I can’t believe the never scoring 50 at the Q either. That woulda been a great trivia question for one of those sports shows.

This is really a joy to watch – it’s unbelievable how physical we’ve become on offense since Mo and Delonte went down. I almost don’t want them to come back.

    WHERE IS JJ HICKSON?

  • Typo
    25. February 6, 2010

Kudis to the knicks for a strong run. Big kudis to lebron for gettin it done. Even though he was trying to show off for the people of NY. Too many 30 footers tonight.

  • 26. February 6, 2010

@24 Jack good ? you’d think an All-Star like Hickson would be on the court more in the second half huh? Sorry Hickson devotees but he’s on the bench where he belongs. Only way he scores is on dunks and since the Cavaliers forgot how to go inside the entire fourth quarter no need for JJ. Antawn Jamison might have been helpful in this game especially the second half.

  • 27. February 6, 2010

Clear proof there is no need to trade anyone.

  • Karsten
    28. February 6, 2010

That got ridiculously close way too fast. Good work on dem reboundz.

Fun fact: Assuming the Cavs beat the Nets at home on Tuesday (living dangerous with that prediction, I know), they will have won 12 games in a row: 12/82 is 14.6% of the season. Right there. In a win streak. Iluvit.

  • 29. February 6, 2010

“Clear proof there is no need to trade anyone” brilliant deduction based on the fact that this game was another LeBron James show. LeBron took 31 shots the next nearest Cavalier was Shaq at a meager 13 field goal attempts not exactly a recipe for success but I’m glad you liked it Troy Smith (TS Trade to Browns).

  • 30. February 6, 2010

If Mo and Delonte had been in this game, no way it gets within 20. Delonte would have snipped Tiny Nate right off, and Mo would have insured offense never stagnate like it did. This win is only slightly disappointing in that it seemed like it would be a 40 point blowout after the first quarter, but we need to keep some perspective. The team keeps rolling without two of their most important back court players. ROLLING. The Cavs are crazy deep, and a W is a W right now. They have way more W’s than anyone else.

And @boogeyman- we get it. You want Jamison. Me too. Look, I think even the people who say we don’t need to make a trade all agree w/ you on some level that if we don’t have to give up anything important to the chemistry of this team we’d all love to add someone of his caliber to the lineup. I believe it will happen after reading some Wizards’ blogs (esp. Bullets Forever)- the Wiz have no bargaining power and no other potential trade partners. Besides the cap relief Z’s contract will bring, they will be fortunate to get a draft pick or two out of Ferry to get A.J. They need to move his contract, it will kill any rebuilding effort they want to start if they don’t. That contract will become impossible to move if they don’t do it now. The Cavs are the only team willing to take on salary in need of a scoring machine power forward. This will absolutely happen, and Z will be back in 30. Don’t sweat it. Even the Cavs-hating commenters on Wiz blogs (which is ALL of them) have admitted that his is the right move to make.

  • 31. February 6, 2010

That said- I actually think the Cavs would be fine standing pat. However, it is because of this that Ferry has so much bargaining power over the Wiz. Ferry can walk away from any crappy deal. He can squeeze the Wiz until all they get is Z and a Cavs throwback jersey. I think AJ would be an AWESOME addition- to me his age is a non factor as he is bringing the lumber on a regular basis in heavy minutes now. He will have his minutes scaled way back on a team as deep as the Cavs (like Shaq), so he will be effective for most of his contract. Plus, c’mon- the guy is an awesome player and teammate. He’d fit in perfectly. Not so great on D? Well, he’d be replacing Hickson’ minutes for the most part, so i don’t think that is a downgrade.

Yes! Cavs win, boogey man…. “Shhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!”

  • 35. February 7, 2010

Listen TS Trade to Browns (which is really awkward to type, BTW), I think we all want the same thing here. No need to call out somebody for wanting a Cleveland team to be so good they can’t possibly lose. boogeyman has perhaps been a bit too insistent on this trade issue, but you can’t fault the intent here, right? We are so very close this time- maybe one more player to push us into High Priced Super Team overkill is just what it will take to break this frigging curse. I’ll take that.

Is it time for an “Are The Cavs Better With Lebron As Point Guard?” conversation?

  • Jack
    37. February 7, 2010

@Scotty – no way. not over a long, draining playoff run.

@TSttB – you’d be a great radio sports talk guy.

  • 38. February 7, 2010

TS trade to the Browns would make my ears bleed if he was a radio sports talk guy which is probably why I don’t listen to radio sports talk in the first place. Correct me if I’m wrong but aren’t radio sports talk guys supposed to have some sort of credibility? If so TS trade to the Browns has no chance.

TS trade to the Browns you tell me to ssssshhhh because you simply cannot debate your position which is why you should really check out Cavs Fanatics.com on NBA.com because you are the perfect “fan” that they appeal to there.

  • 39. February 7, 2010

Adults: they are good things to be. Let’s try and be them. We’re beating the crap out of Barbaro at this point, no need to get personal.

  • 40. February 8, 2010

Such a compliment… Me on the radio! I could take Stephen A. Smith’s old Job on ESPN.

But seriously the Browns were pathetic this past year and there is no way BQ was better than TS. How many games did the Frowns go without a TD?… Shameful.

Right now the Cavs have the chemistry, don’t break up the team unless we’re ready to have a new squad where the whole is not equal to the sum of it’s parts.

Let’s stick to the script, everyone the team has a role and knows it, even Darnell (D-Block) Jackson, even Kolby Karl (when he’s not moonlighting in the D-League). The Cavs are perfect, why would the top team make a change if they still #1 and banged up.

Keep Z, JJ, etc… or we may end up like the Cavs of the Kemp era!
