The Cleveland Browns have announced their decision to part ways with wide receiver Donté Stallworth. After one season of activity with the Browns, Stallworth missed all of last season following an automobile accident which resulted in the death of a Miami, Florida pedestrian and a DUI manslaughter conviction. He was in the third season of a seven-year contract.

As expected. Now the Browns need to go out and get a real Vet WR who can contribute.
Derrik Mason?
Chris Chambers?
Kevin Walter?
Don’t know if this is the end of Stallworth’s career or not, but I have a hard time believing that many teams are going to want to take on that potential distraction, given the limited impact ability that he showed on the field last time he played.
And the Stallworth Era comes to an ignominious close, unwept, unhonored, and unsung.
Noise about him in Baltimore. Wouldn’t surprise me a bit.
I would love to watch a Brown lay out Stalllworth twice a year.
I would have rather watched stallworth catch td’s for the Browns, but not with the headache surrounding him, and his contract. Get someone proven
I wanna show you something…it’s my shocked face
Kudis to the browns for doin the right thing. I know many athletes are not great human beings. But the dude killed someone. Don’t want him on my team.
I honestly don’t think his “bad character” has anything to do with this move, I think its age and money. I say “bad character” in quotes because it was a fairly honest mistake; I think it was an accident that could have happened to any one of us.
He made an error in judgment and he paid for it, he paid the community back by serving his punishment, and he settled with the victim’s family.
I’m with #9 on this one. He isn’t a bad guy. Lots of people kill people in similar situations to his and people kill people when they are sober and driving. It was an unfortunate situation but he paid his price. I think he would have been a good vet WR for the team.
#10, yea, but if you or I did it, we’d have to plead manslaughter and if we had alcohol or drugs in your system, you’d probably do at least a year in prison. And when you got out? The next job you got would not likely pay you hundreds of thousands of dollars.
I’ve got no sympathy. Life isn’t fair.
#11 if you or I killed someone with their car but did not have drugs or alcohol in our system, you would pay a fine & court fees (as well as a lawyer), have your license suspended, have to explain it on every job background check, and of course LIVE WITH THE GUILT.
There was a lot of talk when the accident happened, that it was unavoidable, that there was no where for him to go (swerve) when the guy was running across the street. Yes he was impaired which also contributed, but I think more than his nfl status played into the plea bargain.
But we could sure use a veteran receiving presence on the team…
With the ridiculous amount of money we’re saving by cutting him maybe we can pick someone up who doesn’t injure his hamstring during pregame stretches.
Do NOT get T.O.
@ alexander.please tell me where u got that cribbs pic!!!! i friggin love it!
@alexander…if u dont..i’ll make a better one in photoshop. lol
Um, is no one going to comment on the hilarious title of this post?
@Jack- HAHAHAHA didn’t even notice the irony behind that one. Nicely done.
@Jack exactly what I was thinking when I saw the word terminate.
If any place takes him, it’ll probably be Oakland. That’s where all the outcasts land.
#9, Alexander is right. Yes, the Browns receivers were terrible (think Charles Barkley saying that) last year. No Stallworth, at his price is not worth it.
Some have said other places, well Heckert and Andy Reid brought him to Philly. Philly was super slim on WR’s and instead of trading a 1st rounder to New England for Deion Branch they gave up a backup LB and a 4th round pick for Stallworth. This was after Stallworth had just posted career numbers including 945 yds rec and 7 TD’s. They also didn’t extend his contract. That’s why after an underwhelming season he was gone.
And after an even less impressive performance with New England the next year, Savage brings him in and locks him up for 7 years and $35 million, where his claims to fame have been spiking BE and this incident. Yes, Phil had his success stories, just not this one.
I fully expected this given he was due a 1 mil bonus in march and he has no real ties to Mangini or this organization anymore. Hopefully he can get his life back together and get a shot on another team, preferably one not in the AFC North. The last thing we need to see as Browns fans is Stallworth catching passes from Flacco. Also this makes WR another priority in FA, we need a strong veteran who can help bring MoMass and Robo along.
Good-bye Donte…considering I barely even noticed you were here…you won’t be missed. Hope you can get you life back together, maybe some team will give you another chance…but you are running out of chances and time….good luck.
Wise move by the Browns….he is getting older, can’t stay healthy, and has a ton of baggage. Wouldn’t have been upset if they let him stay on the roster considering how weak our recieving corps is, but I also see why this move had to be made. We need to sign a veteran reciever fo-sho!

age, money, lack of production, plagued by injuries, constantly searching for a positional fit… Maybe he’ll make a serviceable return man for some team if his leg/groin/quad/hamstring can take the beating.
I’ll be honest: when we first acquired him, I thought we may have found a contributing veteran receiver. But, I was wrong.
@Ryan in Myrtle Beach: I don’t think you can find it on the internet anywhere, its a Photoshop that I asked my computer-savvy sister to make for me. She found the source picture on google images.
Good luck putting together yours!
