February 16, 2010Eric Mangini is “Not a Fan” of Brady Quinn

A little on Maggs: “Look, I understand that the Cavs want to firm up their roster heading into the playoffs, but I don’t think {Corey] Maggette is the answer. He thrives in a half-court offense like Cleveland, but he also eats up possessions and grinds everything to a halt. The Cavs have had enough problems with their offensive fluidity in the playoffs as it is — they don’t need Maggette there too.” [Eric Freeman/The Baseline]

For…”Right off the bat, we should dispell the notion that Amare and Shaq cannot co-exist. In their first game together, Amare threw down a 37/15. Let me tell you something…that’s not bad. What naysayers will focus on was the pair’s stint together in Terry Porter’s abortion-esque tenure, one where nobody on the Suns was clicking and the pace of play was slowed down to the point where the Suns looked like a proverbial 6′ tall 5th grader in his 4th grade suit. Shaq wasn’t the problem, Amare wasn’t the problem…Terry Porter was…” [Major League Jerk]

And against… “It’s at least worth asking how much of Stoudemire’s consistent statistical output and perennial All-Star status is due to his having played his entire career alongside Steve Nash with the “Seven Seconds or Less” Phoenix Suns, who not only play a very specific kind of basketball, but also a kind that might be quite overrated in the eyes of the fan. Here consider that, according to ESPN, “as of Feb. 3, Nash had assisted on 172 of Stoudemire’s baskets, by far the highest number of connections between any two players in the league.” [Cleveland Frowns]

Who wants to take their clothes off for Dawgpound Mike? [Dawgpound Vince/’64 and Counting]

And, getcha short field ready: “We got a press release from the NFL Network earlier today announcing their schedule for televising Arena Football games, including the Cleveland Gladiators. I had a great time whenever I watched or attended a Gladiator game, and am happy they’re back. Looks like the NFL Network will broadcast a game every Friday night.” [OBR Blogs]

K, now LeBron can chalk up those assists.
If we get Maggote I’m joining the witness protection program: http://www.spiralpocus.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/02/att2.jpg
Refresh….refresh….refresh…..
@TS – I dunno…Mo Gotti…Ma-gette…could be fun wordplay in the backcourt!!!
Kerr wouldn’t screw Danny over would he? He’d at least let him know early enough tomorrow to get another deal done…right?
Wouldn’t he? Sure he would. I think. Ya think? I hope.
Latest Cavs Trade Rumor: Z, a #1 pick, and Jamario Moon to the Wizards for Jamison & Mike James http://bit.ly/dyXaIX
The ONLY way I would agree to take on Maggette is if I also get GSW’s first round pick this year. CLE would be helping them out by taking on his salary.
@The Artist Formerly Known as TS Trade to Browns – That happened ages ago (yesterday)…but I like it. A really great backup deal.
@Jack
Totally. The ability to keep J.J. and bring in Jamison makes that trade even more appealing now. The two deals are now 1A and 1B in my mind (with STAT being 1A). I won’t be that disappointed if 1A falls through and we still get Jamison to solidify for this year and next and keep around the maturing J.J.
I really can’t see the Cavs GM (Lebron) signing off on trading for Maggette. I just don’t see how he helps this team.
Stoudemire’s game will only improve by playing with the best player in the NBA. Just ask JJ, Jawad, or AP.
Dawg Pound Mike is officially Creepy! That article makes him sound like a voyuer/pervert/creeper.
I’m excited for Gladiators football. Going to the games is inexpensive (for the most part) and Arena football is a blast to watch. Go Gladiators!
While we’re waiting, imagine, D. West, Mo, Stoudamire, LeBron, and Shaq.
Who’s going to stop that? 4 All-Star starters, and a strong guard that can pass, shoot, and drive with force?
That’s probably the best line up in all of basketball!!
Is anybody else already laying out their pasties trying to figure out which ones wear in their pictures for Dawg Pound Mike?
No? Yea, me either…
Friends dont let friends trade for Corey Maggette
http://www.coreymaggettewillruinthecavs.com <–should be a website
Just say no to Maggette
TS/Cavs Dude – that link was discussed ad nauseum in last night’s post; not exactly “latest.”
This isn’t a message board – please refrain from spamming links in every other post. Thank you.
So one of Frowns’ problems is that Nash assists on a ton of Amare’s baskets, yet earlier in that same paragraph he asks whether the stats are due to volume? Maybe that assist number could be due to the pace too, eh. The Cavs assist on the same percentage of possessions as the Suns (15.6).
The Cavs haven’t called a single play for a PF all season. You mean to tell me that the Cavs haven’t focused on a position they’re acknowledging a weakness at and trying to bolster by trades? Gotta be crazy.
Alex – there’s no need for advanced statistics in this discussion 🙂
@Alex:
From what I’ve read on that site, I’m not sure anyone on Cleveland Frowns is *actually* a Cleveland sports fan. They slobber all over the Browns but seemingly have nothing but negatives to ever say about the other teams.
So to recap, Nobody really knows who is getting traded and when, Cleveland Frowns took the opposite position as everyone else, and Dawg Pound Mike wants you to send him porn. That about right?
Varejay – Its all bout the Destroyers baby!
dawg pound mike is a joke… take a look at his website, right under the girl in a browns thong he has a link for “kids games click the elf”
creepy.
The Amare trade isn’t looking good. I’m all for the Jamison deal at least. He is what we need, a player who can stretch the floor.
so if they’re saying:
Z, Moon, and a pick for Jamison
they could potentially do
Wally, Hickson, pick for Amare.
I am not saying we need 2 power forwards, of course, but the cavs could potentially have Amare and jamison.
a lineup of:
Mo
Parker
LeBron
Jamison
Amare (undersized but athletic)
i am not going to erase this post but i just realized how dumb it is. oh well.
WINDY – WHERE ART THOU?!?!?!?!!?
Frowns should have read my article on Amare and JJ over the weekend. JJ Hickson is assisted on WAY more of his FGs than Amare is. Hickson is just as much the recipient of easy opportunities because of those around him. Only, unlike JJ, Amare already has advanced offensive skills and is a master of running the pick and roll.
JK – is there even a team left down there? I just checked OUR schedule, and don’t see a game vs. Columbus this year. Which is good for you, because we have 2 time Arena Bowl champ (and Arena Bowl XVI MVP) John Dutton as our QB!
“… Terry Porter’s abortion-esque tenure …” Interesting.
@Vare-A-Jay, Columbus’s arena team no longer exists.
I’m really glad the blonde in the picture above is holding her sign upside down
Has this trade deadline expired yet? 😉
I hate to re-hash my personal preferences.
BUT, why would the Cavs be going after Maggette? If they wanted a SG they could have gotten Iggy, maybe Philly is asking for too much.
The Cavs could have gotten Rip “to my lou” Hamilton (Take that Rafer)for just a sign and trade of Wally?
I like Maggette’s ability to score, his knocks are his Lebron type of play, dribble dribble dribble drive foul. He could be a great 6th man, and start at the 2 to give us well needed athleticism against Kobe and Vince.
Again, give me Rip or give me death- I just got old school Patrick Henry on you!
The comments here directed at me were all addressed in the comments to the Frowns post linked here, in the event that anyone’s concerned with anything other than expressing preferences here.
Rick, for what it’s worth, I’m far from the only one who’s not particularly hot on Stoudemire (which is all I really said on the post, that I’m not particularly hot on him).
You can keep the rich man’s Joe Smith (aka Jamison) as well…
MattyFos okay you must somehow be related to R.I.P. or his agent because this is like the 100th time now you’ve mentioned him coming to Cleveland. 😉 What I want to know is why noone has pounced on you like they did when I talked about Jamison who ironically seems to be once again a possibility?
Anyways I think we’ll both be disappointed because Ferry probably won’t get any “big” names. He’s more accustomed to getting those role playing journeymen who bounce all over the league. I wonder if Damon Jones is still available?
Also, Rock, I did read your post. I’m not the kind of guy who would write about a Cavs issue without seeing what you had to say about it. I just don’t see how any of it impacts my overall conclusion. Understood that Hickson gets assisted on a lot of his buckets. My points relate to a concern that any upgrade Amare would provide might not at all be worth what we’d have to give up for it.
I do not represent Rip Hamilton and I am not related to him, maybe nobody jumps down my throat or as you so delicately put it “pounce on me” because I’m an overall nice guy.
I like you Boogey, but it seems like you rub people the wrong way.
I WISH we can get Damon Jones, I think he’s the missing piece…
Oh and Boogey, I wasn’t saying we should get Rip, I was just curious why the Cavs aren’t looking into that possibility. Who knows? Maybe Ferry isn’t a fan like me… He mustn’t know what he’s doing. lol
MattyFos – I think the contract is the biggest concern. It’s got no alibi…it’s ugly, yea, yea it’s ugly.
Is it just me or have some of the comments / commentors been going personal lately. Like Mangini to Brady….I’m not a fan.
Thanks for the heads-up Kunal, shows how much I keep up with Arena Ball 🙂
@Jack- Yeah Rip has a long “ugly” contract. but, so does Corey Maggette. That is the point I’m making.
@33 So I can’t be a nice guy and rub people the wrong way? Sorry I don’t sugar coat things I call ’em as I see ’em no matter if it’s the hometown team or not. Keep score I guarantee I’ll make more then I miss. Like LeBron I’m not afraid to take the last shot!
I’m indifferent on RIP I think age and the fact that the Pistons don’t really have anyone else have taken their toll. I was teasing you with all your comments about him.
@Boogey-
I know you were teasing, and I was being sarcastic about you being an butthole

I had to change my Avatar and my name…. It’s a shame.
Antwan and Telfair was a great trade, but my heart is broken for the Masked Crusader….
BTW the pic is of JJ posterizing someone… I wanna see Antwan do that. BOOM!
