LeBron James’ Vision Impaired After Garnett Eye Gouge

Written By:  Scott   |  Category:  Cleveland Cavaliers   |  Comments:   21

As Rick mentioned in the recap of yesterday’s Cavaliers-Celtics contest, it was definitely a physical battle.  While the Celtics are considered to be one of the best defensive teams in the NBA – with evidence of said stout defense above – the big scare came when LeBron James took a shot to his eye at the hands of Kevin Garnett.

The foul left James on the floor for quite some time, forcing the Cavaliers to call a timeout.  And following the game, James claimed that he had blurry vision for about 15 minutes following the instance.

“I was lucky to be able to finish the game off,” said James in a postgame interview.  ”It stayed blurry for about 15 minutes.”

James claimed to have a headache for the remainder of the game.  While James remained as resilient as ever, injuries like this are they freak type that could seriously damage a player.  Phoenix’s Amare Stoudemire missed the entire second half of last season with an eye injury.  Factor in that James just returned from a small ankle injury that occurred a week ago, and Cavs fans are understandably concerned when they have to watch James take the shots that he does each and every drive.

As of now, there are no reports that claim James will miss any time with his eye, though he may have a small cut or swelling.  The Cavaliers play three more times this week with a back-to-back coming Tuesday and Wednesday.

Maybe one day the Cavaliers will make their own presence felt especially in defense of #23 that is of course if LBJ decides to stay. Shaq is missed.

I watched that 30 and 30 show last night featuring Reggie Miller and the Indiana Pacers series against the NY Knicks and man, compared to the NBA today, that was like a WWE event. Bring back Charles Oakley!

Garnett is like an aging porn star desperate to hang on to the glory days by doing whatever he has to to gain an “edge”…people used to tout him for his legendary competitiveness as he was toiling away in Minnesota on subpar teams and screaming at teammates, coaches, fans, cotton candy vendors, etc…now watching him in his post (one)title days, gimping around out there like Barbaro on one hoof without that extra gear is just kinda sad.

Not as sad as watching Rasheed loaf around, jack up ill advised threes and yell at the refs…then again, thats not sad. Its just funny as hell.

The C’s arent the concern anymore, I dunno why the media keeps pumping them up. I hate the Magic. Even if they’re playing the Nets or the Clips or whoever, I always seem to root for bad things to happen to them…is that wrong?

The Celtics truly are cheap shot artists – they actually have turned cheap shotting into an art form since nobody wants to admit that they are dirty because they are the CELTICS, and because this is a different era than the Bad Boys came from. KG has always been the biggest “talker” in the league, but only to guys smaller than him. As soon as someone his size gets in his face, he backs down. There is actual video proof of this, I just can’t remember where I saw it. While I don’t think the eye gouge or even the play when Shaq got injured were intentional, those are the few times the C’s land on the “good” side of the thin line between physical and dirty.

Although the Celtics are not a threat in my opinion, at match up with them in the Playoffs could make for an exciting series due to the physical nature between these two (although it would probably end in a sweep), especially in the last few games.

I missed the memo mandating “stout” as the only permissible adjective to be used to desribe a decent defense. Please forward.

And youse guys claim Mangini lost his influence… Hah!

Since the national coverage seems to love mentioning the big baby and Shaq incident, it’d be great if they could actually get it right for a change and discuss the dirty play after the foul, rather than the injury itself.

That said, I didn’t see the eye-smack as dirty when the game was played. That kind of thing happens around the basket.

    Lebron should wear Rambis specs.

yeah, the only quasi-dirty act was Baby smashing into Jamison, I think… that was a tad excessive. Jamison just froze, like “holy %$#@, prepare for impact!” His hip-check on Andy was annoying, but yknow.. Andy might have done the same thing. The KG hand-to-face was just the nature of the game… things happen.

I was also a fan of Pierce shoving LeBron from behind after the blocked shot…

Only thing more annoying than Garnett bad mouthing guys 6 inches shorter than him is his “blocking” of shots after a dead ball. It would be kinda funny if he pulled something. Knowing him he would miss a month. Has there ever been any other player who is labeled as a tough guy yet he really is soft in recent NBA history? The guy failed when he had talent on the Timberwolves in 2004 and he failed big time.

Matt#2, get serious. Horace Grant wrap arounds are way cooler.

  • 14. March 15, 2010

@12 My guess is you actually watched that little segment at halftime which was about Garnett blocking shots after a call, who cares. I didn’t watch it because I’m not a Garnett fan. His act is old just like his team.

I think on the next dead ball LBJ should just go throw one down and see if KG has the b@lls to try to block it…What do you think???

Boston is full of jerks, and the team reflects the fan base. A few decent guys but mostly rowdy, self-righteous tools. KG can retire any time. That first picture in the montage looks like he straight up elbowed him in the chops.

The Celtics like to go after the Cavs with cheap shots and flagrant fouls. We’ve been seeing this going at least as far back as the Andy-balls-of-steel moment. And they will continue to do so for as long as they can get away with it.

All of the celtics are aging grandfathers trying to steal a win anyway they can, before they have to go back into the house and ice their knees, The Celtics have been dirty for years, yet nobody noticed because they played some defense, now they are exposed!! Garnett was talking a bunch of noise toward the end of the game until he forgot that Lebron doesn’t talk he gets buckets, dunks on your @$$, and gets and ones, lets see what Garnett says when Shaq gets back!!! Quiet as a mouse!!!
