Indians All Star Break Analysis – The Infield
July 13, 2010Remembering Native Clevelander George Steinbrenner & his Failed Purchase of the Indians
July 13, 2010Shortstop Asdrubal Cabrera was hitting a respectable .287 before a May 17th collision with teammate Jhonny Peralta. Both were attempting to field a ball hit behind second base when Peralta landed on the left forearm of Cabrera. He went 1-3 last night playing for single A Mahoning Valley. Asdrubal is expected to play for the Scrappers again tonight, and then he will travel to Akron to continue his rehab with the Aeros.
The news is doubly good for WFNY readers. First and foremost, the Indians need Cabrera. He is the best fielder by far on the club, and he was beginning to settle into the lead-off role. The Tribe needs to see if that spot is right for Astro-Cab going forward. Settle the lead-off spot, and the rest of the line-up starts to take shape.
The second reason this is good news for us is that Thursday is Cleveland Sports Blog night at Canal Park. Looks like in addition to being a Thirsty Thursday (with sodas and draft beers just $1), an Indians affiliate night (with Slider and mascots from Columbus and Mahoning Valley in house to interact with fans) it will also feature Asdrubal Cabrera either playing shortstop or as the DH. Seriously, minor league baseball just doesn’t get much better than that.
The game starts at 7:05. Be there early to take advantage of Thirsty Thursday, and to interact with Scott, Craig, Brendan and myself. In addition, bloggers from Cleveland Frowns, Stepien Rules, ’64 and Counting and others will be on hand. Hope to see you there.

i think his injury has hurt the team the most. with him and hopefully choo back in the lineup soon we can make a run at .500 baseball.
Lake County’s mascots will also be on hand Thursday yo. Plus the Indians hot dogs.
Haha, why did you guys go with a picture of him getting punched out?
Speaking of Choo and hot dogs, go rerish! (500 tribe trivia points to anyone who knows the origin of that quote.)
Sounds like good food for the boys in the clubhouse! When a major league player is sent on rehab to the minors he buys the food for the clubhouse.
@ Hooper – Um. I doubt that one. I work for the Aeros media department.. Don’t think I have ever heard that story before, but I can double-check with the clubhouse manager. From my memories with Cabrera, Westbrook, Laffey and others in 09, that never happened.
