On Terrelle Pryor’s progression after week one: “On the surface, Terrelle Pryor’s passing numbers of 17/25 for 247 yards and 3 TD without a pick jump off the page but what we saw beneath the surface was even more impressive. Again, it was Marshall so there are no absolute guarantees the greatness will continue but I’m willing to take a risk and expect what I witnessed to be more the standard than an anomaly.
Even though we saw increased comfortability in the pocket back in January, I was further impressed as Pryor stood tall in the pocket consistently and kept his feet underneath him while scanning the field. Though I’m sure the mostly solid protection helped the cause, I was also incredibly pleased with Pryor’s willingness to stay in the pocket and go through his progressions instead of reverting back to the quick tuck and run as his defacto “second progression” choice from last year.” [Eleven Warriors]

Filling out the depth chart now at RB in wake of Hardesty injury : “So what’s next? By every indication it looks as though Jerome Harrison will get the bulk of the carries, at least to start the season. Also expect Peyton “Thundering” Hillis to get more action at RB (I’m still getting excited about that “jumbo” package with Hillis and FB Lawrence Vickers).
Let’s not forget about last year’s rookie RB, who shined last preseason before a season-ending shoulder injury in the third game last season, James Davis. Davis filled in nicely yesterday in the absence of Hardesty, rushing for 66 yards on 15 carries and also making five receptions for 53 yards.
The Browns also have RB Chris Jennings on the roster, who didn’t play much this preseason, but may still end up on the active roster. If he does not end up on the active roster, then at the very least he may end up on the practice squad for depth purposes. [Dawg Pound Daily]

Tribe almost gets no-hit, loses again…yawn: “Yes, the Indians danced the dance of the no-hitter again Friday night at Safeco Field. No, Detroit’s Armando Galarraga wasn’t traded to the Mariners, but the left-hander who did it to them had Tigers roots.
Luke French held the Indians hitless through six innings before Duncan singled in the seventh to end his no-hitter. Still, French pitched the Mariners to a 1-0 victory over the Indians on a combined three-hitter with relievers Brandon League and David Aardsma.
French (4-4, 3.64) allowed one hit, struck out four and walked three in seven innings. He threw 99 pitches, 64 for strikes.
In a game featuring offensively challenged last-place teams, the Indians came out second best. Seattle has the lowest batting average and has scored the fewest runs in the American League, but they were one run better than the Indians on Friday night.” [Paul Hoynes / PD]

Rothlisberger’s suspension reduced to four games: “Just because NFL commissioner Roger Goodell shortened Roethlisberger’s suspension from six games to four after a Friday meeting at league headquarters doesn’t mean the star Pittsburgh quarterback should celebrate by popping champagne bottles or, for that matter, ordering tequila shots for his “bi—–” at a college bar. It was the latter type of deviant behavior with at least one underage female student and ensuing sexual assault claim that led to this situation in the first place.
All signs are that Roethlisberger has cleaned up his boorish, alcohol-soaked act. At least Goodell thinks so, which is the most important thing for Roethlisberger’s NFL future.
But for the first month of the season, Roethlisberger’s repentance does his teammates and the franchise that pays him handsomely no good.
As soon as Thursday night’s preseason finale against Carolina ended, Roethlisberger became persona non grata for the Steelers. NFL rules prohibit him from visiting team headquarters, practicing or standing on the sidelines until the suspension ends. Roethlisberger will instead have to watch from afar as the Steelers try to prevent digging too deep a hole before his October return.” [Alex Marvez / Fox Sports]

Jerome Harrison is being undervalued in Fantasy Football: “Last year, Jerome Harrison entered fantasy football lore with one of the most unexpectedly productive final months we’ve ever seen. Over the season’s final three games, Harrison logged 286, 148, and 127 yards. He added five touchdowns for good measure.
More than a few playoff matchups were decided because of a player that few people (other than me, of course) had on their radar screen before the season began.
But as we get closer to the start of the 2010 season, I get the sense that people are becoming increasingly wary of Harrison. Much of this feeling comes from the fact that I’ve drafted Jerome Harrison in the 8th and 9th rounds in my last two drafts, and I feel he’s at least 2-3 rounds more valuable than that this year…with the potential to be even more valuable than that.” [Jerod / Midwest Sports Fans]
