McCoy Plays Well In Loss to Steelers
October 17, 2010While We’re Waiting… James Harrison, Helmet-to-Helmet Headhunter
October 18, 2010Hours after the game, one thing really sticks out in my mind. Again, I don’t want you to think I have a vendetta against James Harrison. I don’t. I am almost more upset with the referees who have failed to throw flags. After doing a bit of research, I uncovered this body slam of Vince Young by James Harrison which I had already forgotten. On September 19th James Harrison picked up Vince Young and suplexed him to the turf. I will note that Harrison was NOT flagged on this play either.
In fact, according to The National Football Post, Harrison was fined $5000 … and then named the AFC Defensive Player of the Week. Granted, Harrison had a great game including 11 tackles, 2 sacks, 1 forced fumble, a fumble recovery and a tackle for a loss. Despite his production, he committed a penalty that is supposed to be frowned upon, and yet referees didn’t even throw a flag. Harrison wasn’t flagged on either hit this Sunday, and the NFL owes the fans an explanation. Will they suspend Harrison because of his multiple offenses this season?

Cool story, bro. You go ahead and count your rings – I’ll form grammatically-correct sentences and make an intelligent living.
We’ll call that one a wash.
Come on Denny, if you are so smart then why do u live in Ohio?
In my opinion, this really just boils down to another reason that ESPN has ruined professional sports.
In a 30 second recap of a 3-hour game, they feel that the most important things to show are Harrison’s hits, rather than the plays that actually resulted in the outcome of the game. In the Ravens/Pats game, they spent considerable time talking about Terrell Suggs and Tom Brady trash talking during the game recap. Really? That was the main story about that fantastic game?
The NFL deserves blame for not calling these guys out for their conduct, but the fact that ESPN and other sports media sensationalizes stuff like this with segments called “Jacked Up”, sure doesn’t help. These guys make so much damn money, they are probably more than willing to pay the $5k fine to get the press.
I don’t, brah. The internet, crazy as it sounds, can actually CROSS STATE LINES. I hear they even dug a wire all the way to Europe.
Feed the troll WHEEEEEEEEEEEEE
Football is a violent game. There are men who put themselves in harms way logging, fishing and mining every day who make a lot less money than NFL players. To suggest a rule change in response to a few hits during one weekend of play is ridiculous. James Harrison is the greatest linebacker in the game today. He plays smash-mouth Steeler football like a long line of great linebackers before him. All you snivelers whining about players being hit too hard need to turn your interests to another sport. Football is a violent gem.
