David Bowens Named AFC Defensive Player of the Week

October 27, 2010Can’t get to Spring Training in Arizona this coming winter spring? Well, if you live in Central Ohio (that’s me!) and have nothing going on next March 30th, the Tribe and Columbus Clippers (well, err, they’re *techincally* the Tribe too, kinda) invite you to Huntington Park for an intra-squad scrimmage in the intimate confines.
In the context of releasing their 2011 schedule today, the Clippers also announced:
The Columbus Clippers, reigning International League Governors’ Cup Champions and also Triple-A National Champions will play an exhibition game on Wednesday March 30 against their parent team, the Cleveland Indians at 1:05 pm. It will be the first time the two teams have played in Columbus as [the Clippers] start the third year of [their] affiliation with the Tribe, an affiliation which was recently extended through the 2014 season. Box Seats will be included in full season and 35 game season ticket packages and will not be available for early sale. All reserved seats will be $20, general admission will be $10 and all will go on sale November 12, 2010.
Crap. I only have the 20-game package. Nevertheless, it’s a great opportunity to see the (presumably) Opening-Day Tribe roster in a small-park setting, playing against guys we already know and love from the organization.
The biggest question I have is: who do I root for in this game?

Do I smell a WFNY Columbus meet-up at this game? No other time will you be able to watch two teams you regularly cover on the same field at the same time….who gets write up responsibilities..DP, Jon, TD? What will you guys do? haha
Anyways, I’ll definitely try to make this game….hasn’t been worth the 2 hour drive the last few years, but 5 minute drive, you bet!
Three words to decide who gets to write it up:
STEEL.
CAGE.
MATCH.
I think I may have the reach advantage. TD’s scrappy. Jon’s clearly some kind of ninja. It’ll be EPIC.
Early line has Clippers -1.5
Speaking of being a Ninja…..has anyone else seen the youtube/ cheap seats/ Jim Rome videos of the Giants closer Brian Wilson? The guy is hillarious, and is the single reason I’m cheering for SF to win the series…if it weren’t for our own unique closer, I’d wish for him to be on the tribe any day.
ahhh, I forgot to mention his references/friendship/alter ego? “The Machine”
Why would the Indians do this? Nothing good could come from it. Josh… I was thinking the same thing. Its like Michigan playing Appalachian State, its a recipe for disaster
A great idea. The teams will be about equal, so let them go mano a mano to determine who goes north to Cleveland and who stays. Do it again at the all-star break. More reliable than scouting reports, and the Dolans maybe pick up some beer money. No downside here.
Stinkfist – Why wouldn’t they do this? I would assume this would sell out so that is a positive. Gets more intrest from Columbus fans (where the Reds have always been #1 imo), and didnt the Yankees used to do this at the coop, or atleast something like this?
I know that the Cardinals do this with their AAA team(Memphis Redbirds) most years. In fact, the last time I remember watching that game, the Redbirds beat the Cardinals. That was 2006, the year the Cardinals won the WS.
I love this idea. Good for everyone.
1 p.m. on a Wednesday afternoon in March.
It’ll be about 35 degrees out and probably raining/snowing.
Sounds about right for the Tribe!
