Though Miami is Looming, Cavs Will Not Look Past Boston
November 29, 2010Derek Anderson Goes Epic Meltdown
November 30, 2010Cavaliers head coach Byron Scott was recently fined $35,000 for his comments regarding NBA officials, specifically those in Friday night’s game against the Orlando Magic. Coaching in the league for what is now his 11th season, Scott had been dinged for smaller violations in the past, but never one of this magnitude.
Given this, Scott stated on Monday afternoon that he was unsure of how the league will go about taking their cut of his upcoming paychecks.
“You know I don’t know yet,” said Scott. “I’m going to have to find out myself. I don’t know if they take it out in increments or if they take it out in one big lump sum – they’re going to get it, period. It’s not like I can say ‘alright, Mr. Stern, I’m going to send you a check’ and then wait four or five months.”
Following Friday’s game, Scott criticized several calls that occurred in the contest which he felt were unfairly tilted against the Cavaliers. In the game, Orlando center Dwight Howard tied his career high with 24 free throw attempts while the entire Cavaliers team got to the line 20 times combined. Scott felt that there were key plays where Antawn Jamison and Daniel Gibson were fouled but did not receive the benefit of the referree’s whistle.
“There’s five white jerseys and three with stripes,” said Scott on Friday. “It’s hard when you’re playing against eight people.”
Scott said that he had forgotten about the emotional statements by Saturday, though he knew he would be fined. On Sunday, he would receive notice that he would be out $35,000 for his words two nights earlier. When asked how word of his fine was received at home, Scott said that his wife seemed to take it well on the phone, but that he could potentially be subjected to a different response once he saw her in person.
“I’ve been fined a few times, but nothing this significant,” said Scott. “I never really noticed them being taken out of my checking [account]. This one, I’ll notice. I’ll notice it a little bit.”

he won’t notice. His wife, now that’s a different story…
Funny stuff. He got fined just about how much I make in a year. hahahaha!!! That’s hilarious!
I don’t understand the title of this post…
The average NBA head coach salary is about $3.5 million, so a $35,000 fine would be the equivalent of a person who makes $50,000 being fined $500.
I thought, for just one second, Stern was sending him to the poor house. No… he’s just not sure how it will be withdrawn. Hyuk.
Off Topic but check out the derek anderson meltdown in his post game interview after tonight game.
No offense… but you need to bring more to the game. the browns post-mortems are not funny or informative…at all. It’s really sad the regions’s leading blog gives nothing for the fans. I really like the all-cle format of the blog, and i keep going to it because there is nothing else there (me and brownie fans can cook something up if needed). the cavs reporting is much improved from a year ago, so congrats. I love the blue jackets report from dp as well. it’s usually spot on (though very dry). the tribe reprots are good as well. Wow. Now that I look back on all that..You guys are doing a pretty good job! It just falls painfully short in the most important area. Hope you get it worked out. Cheers & happy holidays! (P.S. I don’t see how you can, but if you disagree, send me a note at patowensweeney@gmail.com)
That DA meltdown was friggin hilarious. HAHA
I love when people complain about work they aren’t willing to do themselves and aren’t required to pay for or obligated to read.
Oh, wait, I was just reciting a fortune cookie I read but it appears to apply to #7 so there you go.
