#2 Buckeyes Torture Home Fans, Hold Off #21 Minnesota
January 11, 2011Looking Back: The 1986 NBA Draft
January 11, 2011Derek Anderson’s rant is forever captured in the Internet consciousness. If you forgot what Derek Anderson’s meltdown was all about, well here it is… again…
Apparently, DA is ready to move on and doesn’t think anything is as funny as what he was laughing about on the sidelines on Monday Night Football. And of course, seemingly the thinner the skin you have, the more likely it is that you are willing to engage people on Twitter. This time, his protagonist was Jerod Morris from Midwest Sports Fans.DA started it off with a pretty vulgar tweet about Oregon’s uniforms during last night’s championship game.
derekanderson3 “”Baby s*&% and yellow!!! Deff not university of oregons school colors.”
JerodMSF “He takes that s*%$ serious! RT Baby s*&% and yellow!!! Deff not university of oregons school colors.”
derekanderson3 (in serious tone) “@JerodMSF hey dude that’s over a month old not really that funny anymore”
JerodMSF (In equally fake serious tone) “Derek w/ all due respect, it’ll always be funny”
derekanderson3 (Bad sarcasm) “it’s sooo funny..”
JerodMSF (Emboldened) “What’s not funny anymore is that, as one of your biggest fans in Cleveland, this post is in my archive” (post talks about how Derek Anderson might be the best QB in the AFC North the year he was a Pro Bowl alternate.)
derekanderson3 (Maybe feeling bad?) “well those were the good times”
And by this point everything started going down hill. I’ll save you all the back and forth, but Derek Anderson found himself tweeting at a lot of people last night.
One faithful reader of WFNY got called a “*blank* clown.” DA referred to his own vulgar nickname that involves the word “horse.” And here are some of my other favorites from last night.
“I don’t envy u pal.. U been tweeting me.. But I like how u think ur sweet”
When asked which UFL team he would be playing for next year… “nope I’ll retire before I do that. Thx though. I like ur humor.. I play for the hAters.. Hate on..”
A ringing endorsement for Braylon Edwards “he’s actually not a bad guy”
I tell you. Twitter is the greatest and worst thing that ever happened to pro sports. Some guys need to learn to just stay off, or ignore the detractors. Then again, it just goes to show the overwhelming lack of maturity and professionalism that Derek Anderson showed at times throughout his stint with the Cleveland Browns. He doesn’t deal well with pressure, and his thin skin probably means that he will never be much more than a rocket arm.
Much like companies research prospective hires in social media, I would like to think front offices in the NFL will start to look at these things to help judge a player’s maturity, character and ability to deal with fans. All these things affect their careers, or at least prove to be leading indicators of some kind or another. Just imagine for a second, if any of the top ten QBs in the NFL engaged in this type of behavior online. Can you even picture Tom Brady, Peyton Manning, or even up and comers like Matt Ryan or Joe Flacco acting like this?
Colt McCoy has a long way to go before he is considered a top NFL QB, but I can’t picture him acting like this either, which is a good thing.

He’s no Tim Couch that’s for sure!!!
Guys needs a better sense of humor. All public figures take crap.
Craig, you must have missed my retweet where he called me an Ass-Clown when I commented on that exchange between those two! My handle is @kingf0x23 and I said “Derek, it was hilarious, you shouldn’t have been laughing”. He said “Ass clown, I wasn’t laughing”. I had to RT that and my timeline exploded with my buddies all excited for me haha. DA and I had a bit more convo after that and he is actually a good dude, well seemed like it. Pretty funny though. Twitter wins again.
http://twitter.com/#!/derekanderson3 Check his page and go down a little bit. You’ll see it.
I hope athletes continue to engage fans on Twitter…especially if they are immature. I am strongly opposed to the Tresselization of sports (see: no emotion).
My fault, you didn’t miss it. BUT, I will say that DA ended up being a good sport. He defended Braylon though. I was talking to Eric Wright later in the night and he said DA is his boy though. I thought it was great he had the audacity to call me an ass clown.
Wow! Congratulations S-Dub
The “Nuke LaLoosh” of the NFL…
This ALMOST makes me want to sign up for Twitter… almost.
I agree that Anderson has thin skin, but I also agree with his take on the Oregon uniforms. Those are hideous, and they look like they were designed by the people who do those Affliction t-shirts.
If it wasnt for “The decision”, Ole DA would easliy be my most hated Cleveland Sports figure of all time.
He has however earned my permanent #2 position
“they look like they were designed by the people who do those Affliction t-shirts”
Wow, that’s funny. Anytime I get self-conscious about my clothing style, or I guess lack thereof, I just check out the newest line of T-shirts produced by any of the MMA clothing lines.
“his protagonist was Jerod Morris”
I’m pretty sure you mean his antagonist. But this is a great piece.
Shout-outs for tweets, really, seriously?
And this is Chu’s guy?? Really??
thank you for digging this out. man, good times.
