Open Thread: Browns at Jacksonville Jaguars

Time: 4:05 PM EDT
TV/Radio: WOIO Channel 19, WMMS FM/100.7
Weather: 73 degrees, Sunny. Winds, 6 MPH (NNW)
Line: Jacksonville (-7)
Key Injuries: CLE: Shaun Smith (out, hand); Ryan Tucker (doubtful, knee); JAX: Mike Walker (out, knee);
So…slow news week for the Browns, eh? No drama. No injuries. No reason to call out your team or coaching staff. Pretty boring…
With all of that obviously in jest, we actually have a football game to worry about. Jacksonville was one of the teams that some pundits had representing the AFC in the Super Bowl this season. But then again, many of the same guys had the Browns winning the North. As you may or may not know, the Browns agreed to terms with Kellen Winslow, and he will not have to appeal his suspension. Alas, he will not play with the team this week, so Derek Anderson will have to look the way of Steve Heiden and rookie tight end Martin Rucker.
Can the Browns go 2-0 without Winslow? Can we finally capitalize on the defense that has allowed 14 or fewer points in four of their six games?

and as always… The Browns Will Win If…
What seems to be dusted over were the comments of Braylon Edwards saying that he misses the plays from last season (read: Coach Chudzinski isn’t doing his job). Regardless, Derek Anderson somehow managed to avoid any and all focus this week as he is coming off of an awful, awful game.
As always, we’ll be here in the comments. And even though they frustrate the heck out of all of us, Go Browns!

Maybe nobody talking about how crappy DA is this week is a good thing, maybe it gives him some time to figure out why he is so terrible
October 26th, 2008 at 4:18 pm
DA had a fantastic handoff to Vickers to finish that drive… Great start again.
I do disagree with Cross though; don’t think we’ll see Quinn regardless of how bad DA is
October 26th, 2008 at 4:37 pm
We might need to teach the D that u have to tackle to get the QB down….
October 26th, 2008 at 4:51 pm
Fourth and Heiden!
October 26th, 2008 at 4:58 pm
Only our 3rd rushing TD of the season?!?! Could be more if Harrison played more than 4 plays per game.
Oh well, we’re winning!
October 26th, 2008 at 5:01 pm
Maybe we should think about covering Jones?
October 26th, 2008 at 5:03 pm
So when the offense shows up, the defense doesn’t.
October 26th, 2008 at 5:04 pm
First down?!?!?!
Right now I would see Collinsworth call this game over Cross.
October 26th, 2008 at 5:04 pm
STUFFED!!!
October 26th, 2008 at 5:05 pm
Solid run D so far on our part. Nice to see.
October 26th, 2008 at 5:05 pm
I agree with that. Cross is not my favorite.
October 26th, 2008 at 5:07 pm
No Gain
October 26th, 2008 at 5:08 pm
WOW Edwards
October 26th, 2008 at 5:09 pm
Wouldn’t be a Browns game without an Edwards drop.
October 26th, 2008 at 5:18 pm
Rogers is a man-beast
October 26th, 2008 at 5:18 pm
Yes, wooo 4th down Jaguars
October 26th, 2008 at 5:20 pm
Tick tick tick
October 26th, 2008 at 5:21 pm
They should at least try to get 3 points on this drive
October 26th, 2008 at 5:23 pm
So much for that, but a GOOD punt though.
October 26th, 2008 at 5:34 pm
Decent half so far. We just really need to stop giving Garrard so much time.
October 26th, 2008 at 5:43 pm
How can we give that up!?
October 26th, 2008 at 5:44 pm
Seriously!
October 26th, 2008 at 6:01 pm
I think we need to pay attention to how Jacksonville converts third downs… by throwing past the first down marker.
October 26th, 2008 at 6:06 pm
it doesnt feel like we’re winning this game… Jax is def outplaying us
October 26th, 2008 at 6:08 pm
block!
October 26th, 2008 at 6:08 pm
BLOCK!!!!
October 26th, 2008 at 6:09 pm
Rogers playing out of his mind
October 26th, 2008 at 6:09 pm
WOW a blocked FG! I can’t even remember the last time that happened.
October 26th, 2008 at 6:12 pm
Can we put rogers on offense, maybe as a lead blocker?
October 26th, 2008 at 6:13 pm
Wow. That was horrible play calling that series.
October 26th, 2008 at 6:14 pm
Wow, INT called back, then a batted pass. At least we capitalized on Rogers’ big plays.
October 26th, 2008 at 6:16 pm
definitely not happy with DAs play again…. but he hasn’t lost the game so far so we have to keep going with him
October 26th, 2008 at 6:18 pm
So how about we actually cover Jones, since all they do is throw to him.
Dammit roughing the passer.
October 26th, 2008 at 6:18 pm
ANOTHER third and long, and a personal foul to top it off!
October 26th, 2008 at 6:20 pm
If the Browns give up another third down!
October 26th, 2008 at 6:20 pm
About damn time!
October 26th, 2008 at 6:21 pm
Great breakup by Wright.
October 26th, 2008 at 6:22 pm
Ok. Maybe the offense can give our defense a break now and actually do something this half.
October 26th, 2008 at 6:27 pm
It’s Jamal Lewis time
October 26th, 2008 at 6:30 pm
Wow braylon could have made that a TD with a real downfield block.
October 26th, 2008 at 6:30 pm
Holy Steptoe!!!
October 26th, 2008 at 6:31 pm
Browns always make me nervous on the goal line.
October 26th, 2008 at 6:32 pm
Are you serious!??!
October 26th, 2008 at 6:33 pm
Absolutely pathetic.
October 26th, 2008 at 6:33 pm
when are we going to get real goaline plays?
October 26th, 2008 at 6:34 pm
We’ve had this goal-line problem all year. How many games in a row have we seen multiple possessions with 1st and goal at the 4 or less and we can’t do it!
October 26th, 2008 at 6:34 pm
Another poor goal line possession AND that damn Toyota commercial is back!
October 26th, 2008 at 6:36 pm
YES!
October 26th, 2008 at 6:36 pm
!!!!!!!!!!!
October 26th, 2008 at 6:37 pm
Cribbs with the pickup. Now we run. Only run. Don’t let DA muff this up.
October 26th, 2008 at 6:38 pm
Run? nah they need to be aggressive.
October 26th, 2008 at 6:39 pm
That was a perfect set up screen! WTF Jamal!?!?:!
October 26th, 2008 at 6:40 pm
So yeah they wasted a whole 13 seconds.
October 26th, 2008 at 6:41 pm
Another great third down non-conversion. Passing for 3 yards when we need 10.
October 26th, 2008 at 6:41 pm
That’s gay, they only got 3.
October 26th, 2008 at 6:45 pm
3 and out, woo!
October 26th, 2008 at 6:45 pm
Yess 4th down, one more to go!!!
October 26th, 2008 at 6:49 pm

October 26th, 2008 at 6:52 pm

WIN!!!!!!!!
October 26th, 2008 at 7:01 pm
now it’s time to root for the Giants
October 26th, 2008 at 7:01 pm
WIN!!!!!!!!
October 26th, 2008 at 7:01 pm
i dont know how to feel about this win… like was it becuz of us, or did Jax hand it to us
October 26th, 2008 at 7:04 pm
I wouldn’t say it was handed to us. We held on to the ball, they did for the most part. We didn’t make an abundance of stupid mistakes for once and it translated into a “W”.
October 26th, 2008 at 7:05 pm
HUGE WIN for the BROWNS
October 26th, 2008 at 7:08 pm
It was a good team win, D played well and should have taken Garrard down more if he wasn’t like 240. The O made plays when they needed to and also let’s thank the Jacksonville receivers for being terrible.
October 26th, 2008 at 7:09 pm
Cool stat from this game: Browns had zero penalties!
That’s right, no illegal motion, no offsides, or false starts
October 26th, 2008 at 7:11 pm
Wow the Steelers just long snapped out of the end-zone to tie the game.
October 26th, 2008 at 7:15 pm
Some thoughts:
* If Rogers doesn’t go to the Pro Bowl it will be a grave injustice.
* Our goal-line play-calling is freaking atrocious. As was the play-calling right after that kick-off fumble recovery.
* Whence came this rush defense??
* If the offense could have done anything against Pittsburgh and Washington, this team could be 5-2 and sitting in first place.
* Winslow… What’s next?
October 26th, 2008 at 7:16 pm
Oh, and I almost forgot:
The string of obscenities that came out of my mouth after the Jags converted on fourth down and the subsequent flag, which I was positive was going to be a late-hit on us… let’s just say it wasn’t nice.
October 26th, 2008 at 7:25 pm
When they have 1st and goal from the one, they need to stop being cute and just RUN.
October 26th, 2008 at 8:36 pm
Did we finish that game with zero pentalties?
October 26th, 2008 at 8:37 pm
ah…roughing the passer on Rogers. Nevermind. Still, thats nine less than our average
October 26th, 2008 at 10:04 pm
When you fail to score from the one for the second week in-a-row and you’re DB breaks up a game losing pass with his helmet, someone is watching out for you.
Go Browns!
October 26th, 2008 at 10:32 pm
Close one in the end, but thankfully the Browns pulled it off!
October 26th, 2008 at 10:45 pm
Browns Gameday Checklist:
Chips and Salsa (Check)
Pop (Check)
Pizza (Check)
Heart medication (err…)
October 26th, 2008 at 10:45 pm
I think it’s safe to say that we as fans have no idea how this team will perform on any given Sunday. One week, they look great, the next they look incompetent, and it keeps switching back and forth.
Big win today but like the Giants win, it won’t mean much if we don’t build upon it by beating Baltimore and getting back to .500 next week.
October 27th, 2008 at 12:33 am
mmm, peter, what’s happening
October 27th, 2008 at 1:02 am
Just rewatched the fourth quarter. With 3 minutes and some change left, Wimbley absolutely whiffs on David G. Randy Cross says “nice play there by Wimbley forcing Garrard back to the inside.” Are you kidding me?!?! He even said Wimbley was spying on Garrard on the play. If you commit a LB to spy on a QB, when he has an open field tackle to make, he can’t completely miss!!!
October 27th, 2008 at 2:07 am
I cringed when I saw that play live. When the opponent’s 250 pound QB fakes Wimbley out in the open field… you’ve got some problems. I just don’t know if Wimbley has what it takes to really be a force in this league.
Shaun Rogers on the other hand… BEAST
October 27th, 2008 at 2:21 am
And Cross has the guts to say that with Davis, Wimbley and D. Jackson this unit ‘will be good for a long time.’ Has he seen any of the other Browns’ games?
October 27th, 2008 at 8:23 am
In Cross’ defense, if Garrard breaks that run to the outside, it’s another 10 yards. But yes, Wimbley shouldve made that tackle…
