Marquand Manuel on Winslow? Yes, Please.

The Rocky Mountain News decided to shell out their preview of this week’s game against the Browns.  If you’re one that’s looking for the ultimate decision, they predict a final score of Browns 27, Broncos 21.  I’m not sure what to think about this, but if anything, it seems like the Broncos writers have some faith in this week’s starting quarterback.

However, one piece of information that caught my eye was the following:

The Browns offense has struggled overall, which is why Denver will see Brady Quinn behind center instead of Derek Anderson. Tight end Kellen Winslow has been the team’s most consistent receiver, and he certainly will be a difficult matchup for the Broncos given D.J. Williams is out because of a knee injury. Safety Marquand Manuel probably will be asked to shadow Winslow.

Yes, THAT Maraquand Manuel.  The safety that was pretty much released by the Green Bay Packers due to his inability to cover receivers (a la Roy Williams, Adam Archuleta).  And wouldn’t you know it, Kellen Winslow is one the best receiving tight ends in all of the NFL.  Jackpot.

If the Browns want to play a little conservative with Brady Quinn at the helm, I can live with it – after all, Jamal Lewis has throttled the Broncos in the past.  But they must exploit the heck out of this match-up with Manuel.  Winslow was forced to make catches in traffic all day against Baltimore, and it took a bogus pass interference call to slow him down.  There is no doubt in my mind that he could do the same against a considerably weak Bronco defensive backfield.  Let’s just hope that Romeo and Chud realize this as well…

B/c this makes sense, i doubt it will happen.

But… BQ does like to check down instead of throw downfield, so K2 should get more balls thrown to him than normally. Here’s to hoping we come out with a gameplan that’s not run-run-pass this week.

I am absolutely excited about tonight’s game. (I, of course have on my rose colored glasses so that i can forget that the Browns are 2 games below .500, and have been gashed by opposing RBs, and Lewis doesn’t seem to have room to run…)

I am just as excited as the day they traded up to get Quinn. Walking away with Joe Thomas and BQ in one day was awesome, and now we get to see it in action!!

In fact, i picked up Quinn in my fantasy league…and i’m considering playing him! i have McNabb going against the giants, and that could be a tough game, so i might actually play Quinn in his debut – Denver sucks!!

One more thing: How awesome is it that as a kid who grew up watching the browns, he is making his debut against the Broncos! Outside of Pittsburgh and Baltimore could there be any team that a 20-something Browns fan hates more? I know they’re far removed from Elway and The Drive, but it’s still awesome! GOOOO QUINN!

Well, look on the positive side of things. Sometimes that pass on third down is complete……although its usually five yards short of the first down.
