Browns Potential Lineup Changes?

A few days ago, Mary Kay Cabot reported that the Browns are considering what is being called a “lineup change.” And while Romeo Crennel wouldn’t get specific on the idea, I’m wondering what possibilities are even out there due to our severe lack of depth at nearly every position.
In last week’s podcast, I asked Lane Adkins if the only thing keeping Braylon Edwards from being “Anderson’d” was the lack of a Brady Quinn at wide receiver. We all would like to see more Jerome Harrison, but aside from this what else is out there?
This is where you guys come in. What player lineup changes, albeit legitimate, would you like to see this week against the Bills? Have at it…

Well, I have a couple of guesses. Wouldn’t surprise me to see B. McDonald relegated to nickel back, but hopefully we’ll see if Beau Bell can get some snaps over A. Davis…

Maybe a 4-3 D?

I’d like to have Romeo Crennel replaced with someone competent in the lineup.

K2 playing a slot receiver and getting Rucker and Heiden some TE reps… brady likes throwing to TEs right?

To prove he’s not a quitter, RAC is going to don the pads and helmet this week to lead block for Jamal.

I’m hoping for Alex Hall getting the starting nod over Kam Wimbley, because Wimbley does nothing and in much less time this year Hall has more sacks. I know he isn’t good in pass coverage, but Wimbley isn’ t either. I hope B-Mac keeps his starting corner job, because he needs the experience and I still think he can be a good player (how many corners can defend Brandon Marshall for a jump ball? Not any that I know of). Maybe we will see 2 RB sets with both Harrison and Lewis? That might be interesting. Definitely would like to see Beau bell get reps over Davis, Leon Williams should get reps over Davis too. Hell, Davis should get 0 reps unless he magically learns how to run

I have seen it in the PD somewhere, but i’d like to see them move wimbley around – let him blitz up the gut between Rogers and Williams?
Philly’s D does a great job of running their Line Backers right up the gaps and getting in the QB’s face.
i guess that would take some creativity on the Defensive side of the ball?

Can we replace Terry Cousins with someone who is not on the AARP mailing list?
November 12th, 2008 at 3:33 pm
Justin Miller is 24…
just sayin’
November 12th, 2008 at 3:37 pm
I’d throw Terry Kirby in the backfield.
Lets see what KJ and Quincy can bring us as receivers.
Ricky Dudley should definitely get a look if K2 keeps struggling.

ESPN blog said something about moving Wimbley around. I also think the move of SGT Winslow to slot and bringing in Rucker would make sense. I heard Quinn say he was going to try and get Edwards the ball more though, so that worries me. We really need Harrison more involved, as has been stated here many times.

Where is the great Travis Daniels, whom Savage forked over a draft pick for during training camp? Is this guy not good enough to beat out Terry Cousins or Mike Adams for nickel time?
Just another example of Phil Savage and his “expertise”.
I heard the lineup change to be announced in Berea is a double-cheeked porcelain stall built customer to handle Romeo’s wide stance and mammoth cheeks. Seems he kept draining the plumbing at the complex.

I would like to see a 4-3:
Alex Hall – Shaun Rogers – Corey Williams/Shaun Smith – Kamerion Wimbley
Willie McGinnest – Andra Davis/D’Qwell Jackson – Leon Williams
See if Beau Bell can fit in there.
Point being, the d-line would be much more effective against the run, because it would hide some of the deficiencies in our LB corps. Plus, who knows, maybe we could get some more freaking pressure and help the DBs out, too.
I would also like to see some blitz packages that involve stunts, or overloading one side with three guys. I’m tired of us showing “blitz” only to send give guys evenly spaced so that the line and back can pick them up. Every time. Every single time.

I would like to see Sean Jones start tackling. Jerome Harison needs to get more touches. Even though Josh Cribbs does it all now, he should get at least 3-4 opportunitys in the offense. THe play calling is so predictable that if i can figure it out, how easy is it for the opposing coaches to predict. Beau Bell needs to get some action besides special teams, because we have to have the slowest linebackers in the league.
November 12th, 2008 at 4:26 pm
Play Cribbs at every position?
/dreaming

Maybe they will give Nick Sorensen a start at one of the safety spots. The guy is a tackling machine on special teams and a solid run stuffer… not sure if he has the speed to play free safety or not, but at this point I think he’s worth an extended look. I think the two RB lineup with Lewis and Harrison is a great idea. I’m not sure what Lawrence Vickers gives us on offense, if anything.
November 12th, 2008 at 5:01 pm
Sorensen got abused in the preseason when he played in place of Adams.
November 12th, 2008 at 5:34 pm
It’s all a Jedi Mind Trick. RAC will be coaching from the press box. That’s it.
November 12th, 2008 at 6:10 pm
I was listening to WKNR this afternoon and they reported that the invisible Travis Daniels had popped up in practice and was getting some of McDonald’s reps at the 2nd corner spot. I’ve also read reports about moving Wimbley around, but that was more on the order of speculation I believe.

I like what #4 said.
Lets put K2 at split, and use Heiden/Rucker/Dinkins more.
What about the Wildcat? We ran it one time in two straight games (i think) and have not gone back to it.
How bout the delay pass to the FB in the flat that DA could never hit, it appears that Chud had abandoned that play over the last 6 or so games because we were more or less throwing the ball out of bounds and waisting a down.
I am still wanting to see more Harrison. No he is not the beast that Lewis is in pounding the rock north and south but hes got game in the shifty department, lets start getting some mismatches by putting Harrison in motion or something.
November 12th, 2008 at 9:27 pm
#16- Vickers is fairly important to the offense, I think. He’s a better blocker than Ali, and he can carry the ball and catch the ball if/when needed. Ali doesn’t bring either of those to the table.

#20 Scott:
I loved how Harrison was ripping off 9-10 yards per carry on his one series against Denver, and then was never heard from again. Seriously. Sheesh.
Don’t make me bring back my MSPaint play diagram!
November 13th, 2008 at 10:32 am
Is it possible to clone Joshua Cribbs 22 times and have him start all positions on offense and defense by Monday?
November 13th, 2008 at 11:22 am
DP, I am just not a Vickers fan and this isn’t just from this year, it’s his whole career in Cleveland. I don’t really think our options at FB are very good compared to what we can get out of two TE sets and two RB sets. You are more than welcome to disagree, and I take it you do.
November 13th, 2008 at 1:10 pm
I’ma bills fan and i can tell you that they love to blitz man. Harrison on screens could be deadly for big gains. Bills have a solid d line but they are missing their best pass rusher in schobel. Bills linebackers are good but not great and they have one good corner and one good safety. Offensively the bills need to play a team like the browns so they can score some points. Browns can win this game but i hope they don’t. They need a high draft pick to fix all their problems and i want the bills to make the playoffs! One of the two bound to happen lol

Okay, here you go…
We all want to see more of Jerome Harrison, right? OK, so we’re going to have him take snaps for us. He starts at QB.
Instead of our regular offensive line, I say we just put three players out there. Jamal Lewis and Josh Cribbs are definitely two of them. We know for a fact that they never quit, so with their sheer dedication to…not quitting…they should do a pretty good job. We’ll just have Ryan Pontbriand long snap it back to Harrison on each play. Seriously, why not find a way to use our most unsung Pro Bowler more??
Braylon Edwards gets benched in my offensive lineup, but keep reading…he’s still a starter. The two starting WR’s are Brady Quinn and Derek Anderson. Think about it, this is the ONLY way that they can co-exist in a non-awkward situation. In my scenario, they both start…so we can just end the media frenzy already, ok?
The starting Tight End is Ozzie Newsome.
Since we have 4 players remaining on offense, I say we just line four players right behind Jerome Harrison in a giant I. Jason Wright has totally fallen out of favor since Jerome Harrison has started to pop. So I would sign four free agents and line up Mike Bell, Ron Dayne, Najeh Davenport, and Verand Morency.
On Defense, it’s basically the same, but of course we are benching Brandon McDonald. This is where….drumroll….Braylon Edwards will make his first start at CB. Think about it, he’s TOTALLY good at breaking up passes. This will be a perfect fit.
With this lineup, I say Browns 499, Bills 0.
