Rocktober #4: Cleveland is the Reason I’m Cool
October 13, 2011While We’re Waiting… Raiders and Browns, Underrated Brandon and Finding Consistency
October 14, 2011After much anticipation, the Cleveland Cavaliers have lifted the curtain on their Canton-based NBDL team, unveiling a team name, logo and court design for their inaugural season.
The Canton Charge, as they have been named, will play off of the Cavaliers logo which features a wine and gold colorway as well as sword-weilding gentleman with a feather firmly placed in his cap, Sir CC style.
The Cavaliers reportedly took part in a ton of market research before coming to an agreement on the new team’s identity, ranging from focus groups all the way down to in-person interviews with fans on the streets.
“Knowing that Cavalier-style names were important, but also knowing that it was really important for the community to find a name that’s unique to them, we started to narrow it down,” said Tracy Marek, the Cavaliers Chief Marketing Officer. “By the time we were done narrowing it down using the focus groups, ‘Charge’ was the clear-cut leader.”
It was always assumed that the Canton team would have a close resemblence to that of the Cavaliers.Judging by the response I recieved on Twitter when reporting the official release, fans seem to dig the logo a bit more than the name. Feel free to sound off in the comments.\

Can we get Andy to coach them?
Anyone consider the fact that charging is a foul in basketball?
Missed opportunity. Cavalry would have been choice. Oh well, not too bad.
Meh. Maybe the Aeros will get a better new namesake.
Cavalry would have been better but I love the logo. Will Irving and Thompson play?
Logo is great, name leaves a bit to be desired
“Maybe the Aeros will get a better new namesake.”
They’re keeping “Aeros.”
