Open Thread: Browns at Philadelphia Eagles

Written By:  Scott   |  Category:  Cleveland Browns   |  Comments:   110

Well, here we are.  The third Monday Night Football game of this wonderful season.  We better enjoy it as the league may not give us another one for about 10 seasons after the shear collapse that the Browns provided.  We already broke down what has to happen for the Browns to win, and you can tell by our tone that our hopes are not exactly sky high.

Kellen Winslow will be out again.  No Jerome Harrison either.  Ken Dorsey will be under center with Bruce Gradkowski making the “Oh, that had to hurt” face on the sidelines.  Have I mentioned that we haven’t scored a touchdown in three weeks?

The Browns are giving up an average of 148.5 yards per game on the ground.  Eagles running back Brian Westbrook is averaging 121 all by himself over the past two games.  If we want to play the comparison game, though, the Eagles tied the Bengals.  We beat the Bengals.  Thus, we should beat the Eagles.   Right?  Right?  Anyone?

TKNK’s for the evening (subject to alterations):

- “Expectations” = 1
- “Second team ever…not make the playoffs” = 1
- Any reference to Phil Savage’s infamous email = 1
- Any reference to Romeo Crennel’s pink slip = 2
- Any reference to “Waiting For Next Year” = 10

    Oh…this should be fun.

What are we going to do next year without Tony on Monday nights. Cause you know the Browns aren’t playing on Monday night anymore for a while.

  • 2. December 15, 2008

Wow, aggressive with the drink assignments.

Glad this game is stuck in the middle of Drycember.

Can the Browns win? As KG says, anything is possible. The realist in me says no way TK.

    3. December 15, 2008

over/under on how many monday night games for the browns next year?

  • 4. December 15, 2008

    ummm… one?

  • 5. December 15, 2008

I’m gonna big daddy Wilbon this one and push.

ESPN needs a Monday night to talk about how LeBron is leaving Cleveland.

  • wendigo
    6. December 15, 2008

    no live chat?

it would make the pain much more tolerable.

  • 7. December 15, 2008

This “Comon Man” bit on the ESPN pregame show is horrendous.

    Berman must go!

  • user4409
    8. December 15, 2008

    C’mon man!

I second Wendigo; I could go for a live chat/blog.

  • 9. December 15, 2008

So I’ve decided to mute TK NK in favor of listening to Zane Lamprey on an LA radio station trying to save the greatest show of all time, Three Sheets.

Anybody else lurking around here at all?

  • TampaBrett
    10. December 15, 2008

Still is nice though to see the Browns on MNF.

Maybe they can be the upset team this year for someone else. My hopes against Pittsburgh went down the drain yesterday.

  • 11. December 15, 2008

    Already wonderful kickoff coverage.

  • jraster
    12. December 15, 2008

Once again, automatically giving up 3rd and long.

  • 13. December 15, 2008

Eagles look efficient, Westbrook just bounced one outside for about 10 yard. Even when the D line contains the inside, Wimbley gets sealed on the edge and Westbrook can make a decent gain.

  • 14. December 15, 2008

linebackers get sealed, so let’s make sure we run a defense that relies on more of them…

  • 15. December 15, 2008

Eagles TD 4:15 into the game.

  • 16. December 15, 2008

so, is this game over now?

  • TampaBrett
    17. December 15, 2008

Any takers on bets for Browns going 3 and out?

  • 18. December 15, 2008

How about a 1-6 defense? That’d show them!!!

Sadly can’t liveblog angry profanities and NKs.

Instead I yell them at my dogs.

  • 19. December 15, 2008

Jamal Lewis and a cloud of dust.

  • 20. December 15, 2008

Josh Cribbs with the first down…

  • 21. December 15, 2008

Dorsey with a tipped duck of a pass that made its way to Vickers, first down!

  • 22. December 15, 2008

One, one catch… ah ha ha!

  • jraster
    23. December 15, 2008

They act like Dorsey is some high school kid we picked up off of the streets. He’s not going to the hall of fame or anything, but he is an nfl quarterback.

    In comes Captain Clutch!

BTW, I ordered a “Captain Clutch” WFNY shirt yesterday!

  • 25. December 15, 2008

Depressing stat – franchise record for field goals.

  • 26. December 15, 2008

raster – I’d say he’s probably a late pass interference call from being in the college football hall of fame, for what it’s worth.

  • jraster
    27. December 15, 2008

My girlfriend that rarely watches football just said it best regarding Dawson’s record. “That’s not a record he really wants, is it?”

  • 28. December 15, 2008

Another lousy kickoff coverage, Eagles out to the 40ish.

  • 29. December 15, 2008

My friend just texted me that Andy Reid = Fireball Mario… that made me happy.

  • 30. December 15, 2008

How did we not get an unsportsmanlike penalty on that slap on the ass by 91 after the false start?

  • jraster
    31. December 15, 2008

0 for 3 on third downs.

  • Windy CIty Wahoo
    32. December 15, 2008

When does Terry Cousins blow his assignment?

  • 33. December 15, 2008

    Jaws over analyze NK.

  • jraster
    34. December 15, 2008

Finally held on a third down. Alright!

  • wendigo
    35. December 15, 2008

i laugh when i think of shaun rogers playing defensive back.

  • 36. December 15, 2008

I laugh when I think Craig Stadler = Andy Reid.

  • TampaBrett
    37. December 15, 2008

Jamal Lewis is annoying. Why’s he still in there, he does nothing for the offense….nothing

  • TampaBrett
    38. December 15, 2008

You can tell Ken Dorsey doesn’t want to stand in there and take a hit.

  • 39. December 15, 2008

Can Mel Tucker take notes on what it means to put pressure on the QB, please?

  • TampaBrett
    40. December 15, 2008

    Craig

Seriously, I have not seen the Browns do a blitz like that all year…

  • 41. December 15, 2008

Can anybody honestly tell that Romeo ever worked for Bill Belichick? I mean, Belichick would murder these players before he let them play D like this.

  • 42. December 15, 2008

They should have put Bernie on the call tonight to balance out Jaws’ jovial biased ass. Sadly, TK is in prime suck-up mode.

The commentators’ borderline mocking of the Browns is angering me.

  • 43. December 15, 2008

Andre Davis diving in late like a dumbass just hurt Rogers. Cut him now.

  • 44. December 15, 2008

    Filthy Pick by Sean Jones!!!!

  • user4409
    45. December 15, 2008

Nick diving pick on the Wildcat!

  • 46. December 15, 2008

Nice to see Rubin finally get some playing time, maybe even Rucker will get a few plays.

  • 47. December 15, 2008

Craig that’s the problem, Bellicheck always did the dirty work, Romeo never learned how

  • 48. December 15, 2008

Why would Andy Reid do that? They weren’t having any problems with Vanilla conquering the Browns defense…

  • jraster
    49. December 15, 2008

Of course Jaws likes the Wildcat play call.

  • TampaBrett
    50. December 15, 2008

It was like Bellicheck had the secret play book that dude had in the “Waterboy”…and Romeo was never allowed to touch it…

  • TampaBrett
    51. December 15, 2008

“Mr. Monday Night” they say about Braylon…more like “Mr. Inconsistent”.

  • 52. December 15, 2008

So why is braylon catching the ball now??

Jack – you think Belicheck does this kind of dirty work?

  • 53. December 15, 2008

Just a bad pass from a backup QB…

  • 54. December 15, 2008

Romeo is not phased by the pick six. He’s still happy to be working.

  • 55. December 15, 2008

Strike that… I think Stallworthless cut off his route… what was he doing?

  • 56. December 15, 2008

    TK NK Romeo reference.

  • 57. December 15, 2008

At least they went ahead and talked about how bad the team has been under RAC/Savage.

Then they showed some squiddouche dressed up as Elvis in green and grey.

    Then Jaws overannunciated.

  • 58. December 15, 2008

    TK NK Cowher

  • 59. December 15, 2008

Wow that ALMOST worked out well.

  • 60. December 15, 2008

If only he hadn’t slowed down just that lil bit around the 30

  • 61. December 15, 2008

The browns should be down by a lot more, but they still have zero chance of winning because they can’t do anything that even remotely approaches scoring.

  • 62. December 15, 2008

“I think the Eagles played an outstanding half of football but they still let Cleveland stay in it” – Tom Jackson.

That’s why he gets paid the big bucks. In-depth analysis like that.

  • Ricky
    63. December 15, 2008

Westbrook would have caught up with him if he didn’t slow down, the hesitation move is what got him past Westbrook. Only way B-Mac scores is if he somehow bowls over Westbrook. Great pick anyways

  • 64. December 15, 2008

Wait, NOW not scoring a touchdown is not acceptable?

  • 65. December 15, 2008

Well, bring out the crash cart…are players getting hurt or are they just trying to avoid playing?

  • jraster
    66. December 15, 2008

Where have those catches been all year?

  • 67. December 15, 2008

That would be considered a “hard catch” he always catches those. He can’t catch the straight to him, feet firmly on the ground, no one around you pass.

  • 68. December 15, 2008

    Thanks Tirico, thanks.

  • 69. December 15, 2008

I don’t know if the announcers are unnecessarily harsh or our teams are unnecessarily bad. Probably both.

  • 70. December 15, 2008

Why not try the field goal there? Phil’d hit it.

  • 71. December 15, 2008

It’s nothing we haven’t said affter all

  • 72. December 15, 2008

Is it just me or is Davis actually making plays and tackling tonight?

  • 73. December 15, 2008

He’s doing well tackling Shaun Rogers…

  • 74. December 15, 2008

  • 77. December 15, 2008

The Browns aren’t capable of running a screen pass…

  • 78. December 15, 2008

This is just boring to watch… just boring.

  • 79. December 15, 2008

    Cleveland State FTW

  • TampaBrett
    80. December 15, 2008

Completely boring….why can’t the Cavs be on..

  • 81. December 15, 2008

Should have watched Cleveland State beat Syracuse.

  • 82. December 15, 2008

I was really bored today and looked up the original TK NK – pregame vs Jets.

That day the game was in competition with Misty May-Treanor’s behind. Much tougher competition than C-State hoops.

  • 83. December 15, 2008

The red zone is the vomit zone for the eagles… haw haw haw…

  • 84. December 15, 2008

Wait, when did Donte Stallworth sign with us?

  • jraster
    85. December 15, 2008

No, I don’t feel sad for him at all.

  • 86. December 15, 2008

I just finished cursing out TK and my wife is tired of me… NO I DON’T FEEL SORRY FOR THE MOST INEPT HUMAN BEING TO COACH IN THE NFL SINCE HIS ILL FATED OFFENSIVE COORDINATOR MO CARTHON.

  • Ricky
    87. December 15, 2008

That player had a green jersey on. We are wearing white jerseys. Someone better tell Dorsey

  • 88. December 15, 2008

Like the last one I believe someone hit Dorsey’s arm.

Can Cribbs just take over? Hell, at this point put Gradkowski in the ball game.

  • 89. December 15, 2008

Thanks Tony, for letting us know how disappointing it must be for Cleveland fans. At least Tirico didnt bring up LeBron’s imminent departure.

  • 90. December 15, 2008

Way to drop in mention of your ballclub Jaws, hows next season going for ya anyways?

  • 91. December 15, 2008

    Livin on a Prayer…

Also, Jaws just mentioned Reid not wearing his emotions on his sleeve. Neither does RAC.

  • 92. December 15, 2008

Can we just forfeit the rest? The browns can’t do anything on offense, that’s for sure.

  • 93. December 15, 2008

    Golf clap, yay.

  • 94. December 15, 2008

    TOUCHDOWN! TOUCHDOWN! TOUCHDOWN!

  • 95. December 15, 2008

Well, least SOMEONE is trying to score

  • Ricky
    96. December 15, 2008

To anyone who jumped off the B-Mac bandwagon, you are allowed to come back on board, I’ve been waiting for you

  • fmayse
    97. December 15, 2008

Not to get down on the D-Mac parade, but that was a wounded duck that I think even Braylon “Butterfingers” Edwards could catch. Nice TAINT though….

  • fmayse
    98. December 15, 2008

    Sorry – I meant the B-Mac Parade, not D-Mac.

    My apologies.

  • 99. December 15, 2008

    And there was some rejoicing.

  • Nick
    100. December 15, 2008

Randy Lerner should be enjoying this game, what with all the kicking and punting the Browns I mean Aston Villa are doing tonight.

  • 101. December 15, 2008

I know it doesn’t matter, but where are the throws to Braylon in the second half? Not to say we can forget the Braylon criticism, but dude did make some plays in the first half, right? The game is still over and all, but I don’t want to let this staff off the hook because all the QB’s are hurt.

  • 102. December 15, 2008

Or, as my sister just texted me, still no offensive touchdown

  • 103. December 15, 2008

Thanks TK… tried the college guy… tried the coordinator… now they need to find a YOUNG coordinator who is tough as nails.

  • 104. December 15, 2008

My solution is quite simple. Keep Savage, but make his responsibility strictly the draft.

Bring in Marty to be the GM/President.

Don’t allow the Niners to sign Singletary, sign Mike Singletary and sign Ron Rivera (former teammate of Singletary in Chicago) as the defensive co. That gives you a definite personality of an organization.

  • Goulet!
    105. December 15, 2008

Lerner’s hand has got to be trembling as it hovers over the red button. Just do it Randy, so we can get started early on the search. Look at is as a Christmas present to the people of the city of Cleveland.

  • Nick
    106. December 15, 2008

Another 3 hours well spent. Romeo Must Go!!! Cavs on Wednesday. Cavs on Wednesday.

  • 107. December 15, 2008

Side note – Paul Pierce looks like he got hurt in today’s game. He didn’t come back in a wheelchair, but still it could make somewhat of an impact on the season.

  • Denton
    108. December 16, 2008

hey, just wondering… what does nk mean? Also, is it just me or does it seem that like whenever browns fans want something to happen, and it does, it never works out like it should. Nobody can lie about the fact that we all wanted Romeo as our coach after the patriots third super bowl. Looking into the future, I really don’t know who the browns should go after this offseason. At least im not a bengals fan though… thank the lord.

btw I love this web site and I am so glad it is back up…

  • Whipjacka
    109. December 16, 2008

NK means drink. Whenever tony mentions Brett or the jets, makes a stupid joke, etc; you take a drink. We developed this during the blowout by the giants during preseason MNF.

Not only did the Browns like Romeo, everyone in the country liked the pick. It is just that nothing works out….EVER.

  • mj
    110. December 16, 2008

“Not only did the Browns like Romeo, everyone in the country liked the pick.”
    —–
Not everyone. For example, plenty of folks questioned why he had never had a HC job at his advanced age and wondered whether the Pats’ defense was Romeo’s work or Bill’s.
