Brian Giles, Sued by Ex-Girlfriend

Slow news morning thus far, but this is definitely something that caught my eye.  Former Indian outfielder Brian Giles’ name hit the news wire, but not for a reason that he would likely prefer.

An ex-girlfriend of Giles claims that he had the occasional bout with the backhands which caused her to lose her then “with child” state.

Plaintiff Cheri Olvera alleges in her complaint that she and Giles lived together since 2002 and became engaged around December 2005. However, the marriage never took place due to Giles’ violence toward her, the suit states.

She alleges that the two reached an agreement that if their relationship ended by death, separation or otherwise, that all of Giles’ property would be divided for her benefit. But in April 2008, she states Giles breached the agreement. She stated Giles failed to secure her financially according to the standard of living they shared and failed to divide his assets.

Quite the set-up.

The claim links the following verbiage to Giles: hitting, slapping, pushing, shaking, kicking, knocking, and battering.  Giles is slated to make $9 million this season with the Padres. The lawsuit is for $10 million.  And if you’re curious as to what the outfielder has to say about said lawsuit, you’ll have to keep waiting. Per Giles’ agent Joe Bick:

“I have absolutely no comment,”

This has “out of court settlement” written all over it.  If I were brother Marcus, I wouldn’t be answering my phone for a little while.

Did she get the “agreement” in writing? If not, she’s screwed.

“The suit states that the couple maintained a “marriage-like relationship from in or about 2002 to April 2008.” Olvera alleged that Giles agreed to provide for her and her daughter financially while she devoted her time and attention to his personal and business needs.

Sounds like more of an “understanding” to me.

I refuse comment until I hear Shawn Kemp’s take on this.

I will assume this is a money grab until proven otherwise. That’s not to say that I know Giles to not be a woman abuser, but this screams of someone playing the lotto to me.

hate to sound misogynistic, but i almost always give the benefit of the doubt to the athlete. there are too many freeloaders that figure they can trump up charges against these guys in an effort to hit it big.

i could be wrong, though. Here’s to hoping Giles isn’t a good-for-nothing-woman beater.

If she never called the cops after he allegedly beat her, then this is almost assuredly a shakedown. Stick to your guns Giles.

What if that Brian Giles ex-wife have been abused as well during their bad marriage which maybe took him to start cheating on his pregnant wife in 2001 with his actual wife-girlfriend, for me this all looks like a big setup between the recent couple like others do every time he wants to get a divorce or to minimize the Allowance to his ex-RealWife!!! After all he got have some money left for his personal expenses “Fun” as well!!!
