Open Thread: Browns at Pittsburgh Steelers

You guys know the drill by now. Reportedly, Romeo Crennel will be given a meeting with Randy Lerner this week, meaning that a post-game firing does not appear to be in the cards. No Winslow, as he didn’t travel. No starters for Pittsburgh, not if that matters. FWIW, no member of the PD staff picked the Browns to score more than six points.
I’ll also be doing my best to follow/moan about the game on Twitter – feel free to reply @WFNYScott all day long.
Enjoy the game? Go Browns.

Let’s start the thread off with the news that Romeo may be offered the chance to stay with the team as Defensive coordinator.
As much as I HATE the way Romeo has handled the Browns in his last 4 years, I actually think the guy may be a perfectly fine D Coordinator. The differences between being a Head Coach and a D Coordinator are very, very large. And he proved to be successful in the latter job.
That being said, no way he can stay on with this team. Even if he is more qualified than the next D Coordinator that we will bring to town – his presence will always undermine the next coach.
I’m sure Romeo is a fine person, but the dude needs to get the f*ck out of town. Now.
I think he would be a definite upgrade over our current DC. However, I think it’d be very unlikely that RAC would stick around after the drubbing he has taken over the past four months.
With that said, this whole mess is shaping up to be very ugly. With the reports that Crennel/Savage will have jobs only if certain people (Cowher, Pioli) do not come to Cleveland..?
Sure, I’ll take you to prom, but only after I find out if these two chicks (who are way hotter than you are) let me know if they’d like to be my date first…
Yea, that always works out in the end.
As much as part of me wants the Browns to pull out another miracle like they did against the Giants (not likely in any event), I can’t help but hope we lose. Nothing would be worse than a Pittsburgh win muddying up the Goodbye Romeo Parade, and I honestly couldn’t get excited about beating the Steelers backups in any event. Then there is the draft pick to consider . . . one more win could drop us out of the top-5, especially if the Bungles lose today, too.
That being said, I will be rooting for the Browns today anyway, mostly because I hate myself and can’t do what’s good for me.
Gradkowski hasn’t thrown a pick yet. Start up the QB controversy for next year…
any chance the Browns retain Gradkowski instead of Dorsey next season?
I love how just seconds after the announcers talk up our “young and improving” corners one of them gets burned for a touchdown. Lucky it’s coming back.
I love that every week we are supposed to see more of the Flash package and every week Josh Cribbs barely touches the ball. Does Romeo really believe that Pittsburgh is more scared of Gradkowski at qb than Cribbs?
Alright people… rally caps… was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor?
I think the Browns like Dorsey’s knowledge of the game, he is kind of like another coach, and in most situations 3rd string QBs don’t need to play. Maybe we will keep Gradkowski as a backup instead of Anderson, assuming we can find a trading partner
As I type that he throws a pick. I’m not even mad at him, he has been on this team for 2 weeks
Bengals are winning, and Oakland is tied going into the 4th. Could the Browns jump up 2 draft spots in the final week? I’m used to the Browns winning the last week of the season and getting a worse draft pick
All these folks that think Romeo is a great DC…
How good a DC was he his first time in Cleveland? Remember, he was DC under Chris Palmer. I don’t recall us being a fierce defensive force under his watch, and New England sure didn’t seem to miss him much defensively when he left them four years ago.
I always figured he got the credit for Belichick’s defensive scheming in NE, and frankly can’t see him being some great defensive guru in his next job, either.
I just took a look at the stats at http://www.pro-football-reference.com/years/2000/opp.htm
In 2000, the Browns gave up 419 points, 2nd worst in the AFC, and 27/31 overall in the NFL (SD, AZ, StL, and SF were worse.) They ranked 12th against the pass and 29th against the run that year. Not exactly guru-level work.
Alright folks – we are just one quarter away from going 6 straight games without an offense TD. That has to be some kind of record in since the NFL – AFL merger.
We can do this!!!
I am already watching Detroit and Green Bay.. Green Bay leads by 3 and is knocking on the door…. TOUCHDOWN!!! 10 point lead for GB over DET. The Reverse Perfect Season might actually happen!
@Logan – The Browns have the NFL record forget the merger. When they went scoreless into the 4th. And it looks like they’re going to add an extra quarter to make it even more difficult to break.
The reports about Crennel are astonishing to me. The only reason I can think Lerner would want to keep him around is to recoup some of the financial loss he’s going to incur if he fires him outright. This guy just needs to go, and quite frankly, I can’t see a situation where keeping him on would be acceptable to the fans.
As I type the Steelers D just scored again. 31-0. this team is a complete embarrassment to the Browns name, the city, the fans, and most importantly, themselves.
Well, everything after both QB’s go down is a free pass, to be honest. There is just no way to win in this league with your third QB unless you have Gayle Sayers running the football behind the 90’s Dallas offensive line.
Ken Dorsey and Gradkowski don’t give any team in the league a chance to win.
Detroit comes back and drives for the score to bring it back to a 3 point GB lead. This reverse perfect season looks like it might get interesting.
There’s Bruce’s INT. Crisis averted.
Green Bay with a GIANT pass play over the head of LEIGH BODDEN for 71 yards and Donald Driver gets the lead back to 10 for Green Bay! Savage should just use that trade as an excuse to save his job alone.
why did the slothlisburger only get a concussion..i was hopin for a broken knee AND concussion…oh well. GO BROWNS!
Actually, today was a great day for the Browns. Last day with Cromeo as coach and both Cincy and Oakland pulled out wins meaning that the Browns, at worst, will have the 5th pick in the draft. If Seattle can beat the sleepwalking Cardinals this afternoon it’s the 4th pick. I assume they could get the 4th pick even if Seattle loses via a coin flip.
Thank God this season is over.
The Worst. Season. Ever.
If I have to suffer another season like this within the next 10 years – that’s it. I’m done with the Browns.
What a miserable, miserable season.
I’ll give them a mulligan and keep watching next year. But it has to stop sometime. I moved out of Cleveland 10 years ago… I don’t need this shit anymore.
If Rothlisberger had been a Browns QB on that play, he would’ve been paralyzed. Since we’re cursed and the Steelers are not, he’s only got a concussion.
with Detroit setting perhaps the most dubious record of all, lets not overlook the Browns distinction:
Twenty-freaking-five quarters of football without a trip to the last ten yards of the field, the ones without numbers on them…. what is that even called?
Haha ^^ nice, is there a section to follow the RSS feed
