While We’re Waiting…New Years Day Edition
January 1, 2009Beanie Wells: Showmanship Or Setting Us Up?
January 2, 2009While We’re Waiting aims to be the round-up of the recent WFNY-esque information for your morning viewing. Have something you think we should see? Send it to our tips email in the sidebar.
“Drew Gooden is not necessarily known for his sense of fashion—unless you have a thing for a patch of hair on an otherwise entirely bald scalp, that is. Nevertheless, his shades, designer jeans and gold neck and wristwear, much of which likely came from the spoils of the lucrative contract he was given by the Cavs, help him sit perfectly in his luxury vehicle.” [SLAMOnline]
Must read link: Mark Titus gives his Top 10 goals for 2009. If you aren’t interested yet, consider that one of them is to “Grow an iconic mustache in the off-season.” Yes, now you know you want to pay a visit. [Club Trillion]
I’ll be pretty unhappy if this goes down… “The Chicago Cubs just traded second baseman Mark DeRosa to the Cleveland Indians, and you all know what that means. Well, you don’t really, but some of you are asking if this means that the on-again, off-again trade talks involving Brian Roberts and the Cubs might be on again.” [Baltimore Sun]
Eric Musselman talks about USC linebacker, and son of former Cleveland Brown, Clay Matthews. “”I knew if I came to USC and they gave me a shot, that I could play. I also knew if I was going to hang with these guys, I’d have to work really hard and be really persistent. I just kept working and working and getting bigger and faster and better. I’m sure the coaches thought I was crazy.” From walk-on to NFL prospect sounds pretty good to me. [Eric Musselman]
“[The Browns] have done a ton of research and believe a coach in Mangini’s position — having spent a few years with one team, then fired — often is much better the second time around. Tony Dungy (fired by Tampa Bay, Super Bowl in Indianapolis) and Bill Belichick (fired by Art Modell, Super Bowls in New England) are two recent examples. Mangini spent three years as the Jets’ coach: 10-6, 4-12 and 9-7. He will be 38 on Jan. 19.” [Terry Pluto]
