Report: Browns Officially Announce George Kokins GM Hire
January 25, 2009Fausto’s “Flaw” Hits the Radar
January 26, 2009While We’re Waiting aims to be the round-up of the recent WFNY-esque information for your morning viewing. Have something you think we should see? Send it to our tips email in the sidebar.
“After the Cavaliers swallowed their worst loss of the season in Los Angeles against the Lakers last week, they went to two movies. The first was a private screening of “Slumdog Millionaire” in Los Angeles. Afterward, a team lunch was held and players talked about President Barack Obama’s inauguration. “Going and seeing the movie together kind of let us forget about the Laker game,” LeBron James said. “We’ve been a ‘next-game’ team all season, and getting past that probably led us to the best three-game span we’ve had.” [Brian Windhorst/Plain Dealer]
Not sports related in the least bit. But if you’re a fan of music, Joe Posnanski discusses the possibility of inducting songs into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. And then breaks down those deemed “iconic” in two separate posts. Emancipate yourself from mental slavery! [Part I, Part II – Joe Posnanski]
We can probably scratch Michael Redd off of our wishlist: “Milwaukee Bucks General Manager John Hammond announced today that guard Michael Redd will miss the remainder of the season after suffering a torn anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) and medial collateral ligament (MCL) in his left knee during the third period of the Bucks win over Sacramento on Saturday, January 24.” [Official Team Site via Matt Moore/FanHouse]
“On Friday Mangini was slated to be interviewed by WKNR AM-850 Sports Director Mark Bishop. But Mangini’s people called the station to beg off, stating that on Monday Coach Mangini would have more to say. But in a move that seemed to thumb its nose at the Cleveland sports media, Cleveland Browns fans read about the Kokinis hire on the crawler lines flashing across the bottom of the television screen on ESPN’s NFL show. The formal announcement is expected Monday, but the fact that the news was leaked nationally first appears to be a statement to the local media from Mangini: “Don’t ask. I will tell you guys something on a need to know basis. When I am good and ready.” [MidwestSportsFans]
Think Detroit would like to have Chauncey Billups back? “Allen is the best player I’ve seen with four stiffs, and that’s no disrespect to anyone,” [Analyst Chris] Webber said. At another point during his guest spot on “Inside the NBA,” Webber said, “Allen Iverson needs five robots to play with him.” [Bob Wolfey/Milwaukee JS]

Michael Redd may be off the list, but does this put Richard Jefferson in play?
Also, I had an outlandish idea. The Cavs SHOULD trade for Mike Redd. The catch is if they are going to take on all that cash with an injured player, they also get Charlie Villanueva. That way the Cavs are playing for this year and next year when Redd will hopefully come back strong.
Nothing like this will ever happen, but I should at least get points for creativity.
I love that idea Craig. While we’re getting creative, just throw Wally out there with the release and resign 30 days later, and we’ve added Villanueva for nothing, then have Redd for the future.
But i digress…
that iconic song post is sweet and im super nervous about the browns…
@adam rosen: Joe Posnanski brings it hard every post… Glad you enjoyed it.
after reading pluto’s column referenced in the fausto carmona post, i am even more nervous about the browns.
i hate coaches who think they are better/smarter than the fan base who supports them… ok so ur the coach but your job wouldnt exisit without us!! please mangini get some kind of repore with the media becuz they will turn on you quick. i mean if pluto is giving u grief, than the fans will be right behind him
@Craig: you can read my thoughts when Coast To Coast publishes at 2:00.
I was thinking the same thing about trading for Redd now. But he SHREDDED that knee, and it’ll be 14-18 mos for him to be 100%, if he ever gets there.
At least he got his gold medal.
Does anyone think Steve Kerr will trade Amare Stoudamire to Cleveland in the same manner that Kevin McHale and Jerry West “traded” Garnett and Gasol to Boston and LA?
@DCBucks….another topic covered in the upcoming Coast To Coast feature. 🙂
Looking forward to your take.
