Getting Back Into The First Round?

Jerod MayoNot all too long ago, we had a poll on the sidebar asking the readers which position they felt needed to be upgraded the most in the Browns’ off-season.  Obviously, attention was focused on the defensive side of the ball, and our prayers were figuratively answered as Phil Savage added several key pieces to the defense though trades and signings.

Latest news from Tony Grossi is that Jerod Mayo will be in town today, making a pre-draft visit with Romeo and Company.  Mayo is a solid inside linebacker that led the SEC with 140 tackles, garnering First Team All-SEC honors.  The only problem?  We would need a first-round draft pick to add him to the team, and that selection belongs to the Dallas Cowboys.

With our first selection being a fourth-rounder this year, the Browns would have to package players (most likely) with future selections if they were to land back into the first round.  Perhaps trading for a lower pick (second, third-round) and then flipping that with some cash for an earlier pick?  Obviously, I’m not an NFL General Manager, or I could get a bit more detailed.  But also obvious is that it doesn’t seem like the Browns are complacent with their current draft status.

Stay tuned.

Being probably the only Tennessee fan that regularly is on this site I feel it is my duty to tell you … this guy is a stud. Last year when UT barely beat Kentucky, a RB pretty much ran straight at him. Mayo squared up, grabbed and lifted the guy and essentially bodyslammed him. It was a play that would make any football fan simply say “Damn!”

Actually he’s probably the number 3 inside backer behind Lofton and Connor. He’ll be there in the second, maybe even in the third. Problem is we don’t need an inside linebacker, we need another outside linebacker, a Shawn Crable or please dear god Erin Henderson

I gotta disagree a little on this Jack, yes we need an outside backer, but we could use Davis’ replacement as well.

the focus really should be, who the hell do we move to get back into the first round. all these guys u guys r talking aboutr great and all…but we have no chance to get them right now.

i think there is still a possibility we move anderson. i think signing him to a shorter deal makes him much easier to trade. just my opinion though.

Yes, we need Davis’ eventual replacement, but not in this draft and not in the first round. In this draft the inside linebackers are few and between with only Lofton and Connor being first round potential. If we want to draft an inside linebacker at our current spots I suggest Beau Bell, Ben Moffitt or Jonathon Goff
