Ten-Day Contracts: Jawad Williams Released, Trey Johnson Signed

Trey JohnsonAfter becoming one of the bigger feel-good stories of this season with the Cavaliers, it appears that former St. Ed’s standout Jawad Williams’ will no longer be a member of the team.  Instead, the team looks locked into replacing the injured Tarence Kinsey by signing former New Orleans Hornet Trey Johnson from the NBADL (Bakersfield).

Needing a guard more than a forward at this point, the Cavaliers will add a guy that is averaging 20 points and four assists along with nearly 50 percent from three-point land.  If Delonte West manages to return from his wrist injury quicker than anticipated, the team may only need to roster Johnson until his current deal expires.  If he were to need a second 10-day contract, it would not be far-fetched for the team to do so.

Note that NBA teams must sign players for the remainder of the season if they have already been signed to two 10-day contracts.  Alas, Williams likely saw his last minutes with the Cavaliers unless they decide that they need forward help down the home stretch.

I started thinking about this the other day and wondered the following: If a player is signed to one or two 10 day contracts, is released, and his former team goes on to win the title, would that player get a ring from the team? Anyone know?

Not signing Jawad to another contract means they don’t have to guarantee his contract for the rest of the year- knowing that, and knowing that Eric Snow’s roster space is now available…….I see a trade in the future- with a Wally buy-out soon after.

Irony: Named Trey Johnson, reportedly bad a three-pointers:

I’m not certain, but I think it’s up to the team.

That’s my understanding as well, it is up to the team. My guess is that the rest of the Cavs would demand it. They have been pretty tight this season, and from what I hear they love Jawad.

if you play a single game for a team you are eligible to both be paid for the playoffs and get a ring- the team votes on it.

Thanks for the info everyone. I hope WHEN the Cavs win the title, Jawad gets a ring.

Danny–wouldn’t you love to hear some stories of when teams have voted no to certain guys?
