NFL DraftWith Day 1 of the NFL Draft in the books, we now turn to the second day – one in which the Browns will actually see their helmet pop up on the TV screen. While I held out for the small hope that Phil Savage and Company would move in to the first day with some miraculous move, I’m not all to concerned… assuming they address their needs today.

As Rick mentioned here, there is no doubt that the Browns will further add to their defense with today’s selections. Cornerback, linebacker and perhaps even another defensive lineman will likely be new additions before it’s all said and done. The issue at hand is which order they decide to prioritize these three slots, and who which players will be there for the having. Unfortunately, Jerod Mayo didn’t fall to the fourth round, so here’s a quick recap of what’s left.

Jack Williams (DB, Kent) and Beau Bell (LB, UNLV) are two aforementioned that are still out there.

Scouts Inc. lists the following players as the best available by each position:

CB: Justin King, Penn State; Charles Godfrey, Iowa; Reggie Smith, Oklahoma; Tyvonn Branch, UCONN; Chevis Jackson, LSU (note, Williams is currently sixth at CB)

ILB: Dan Connor, Penn State; Tavares Gooden, Miami; Philip Wheeler, Ga Tech; Beau Bell, UNLV; Jonathan Goff, Vanderbilt; Another name that you all may be familiar with is J Lehman out of Illinois. He’s currently considered the ninth best ILB left

OLB: Erin Henderson, Maryland; Bryan Kehl, BYU; Xavier Adibi, Va Tech; Stanford Keglar, Purdue; Bruce Davis, UCLA (note: Shawn Crable – out of Michigan – is currenty listed as eighth)

DE: Cliff Avril, Purdue; Jeremy Thompson, Wake Forest; Chris Ellis, Va Tech; Kendall Langford, Hampton; Darrell Robertson, Ga Tech

A few Big Ten names out there, eh? Henderson is a very possible addition in the fourth – assuming he’s still there upon our selection. Perhaps Crable could fall to the fifth if there is not a run on OLBs, so that could adjust the priority a bit if the drop-off at corner is steeper.

Unfortunately, I’ll be on the road for most of today, so I’ll be relying on my phone to keep me updated. Feel free to toss your comments below once some picks are made. Let’s hear how you feel.
