Aaron Laffey: From No-Hitter to Losing Pitcher On Record
Perhaps five innings was just enough for a rookie 2008 debut. Not allowing a hit through five, Tribe youngster Aaron Laffey just allowed the following progression to take place:
- M. Cabrera singled to shortstop
- D. Jeter singled to third, M. Cabrera to second
- B. Abreu singled to left, M. Cabrera to third, D. Jeter to second
- A. Rodriguez hit by pitch, M. Cabrera scored, D. Jeter to third, B. Abreu to second
- J. Giambi grounded out to first, D. Jeter scored, B. Abreu to third, A. Rodriguez to second
- H. Matsui grounded out to first, B. Abreu scored, A. Rodriguez to third
Naturally, this was followed by “J. Lewis relieved A. Laffey.”
Of course, no inherited runner is safe with Lewis these days. We’ll see what the final damage is after the sixth inning is compete. An inspiring start nonetheless. Only tossing 79 pitches in the 5.2 innings is nothing to be ashamed about. It is the Yankees…

Can’t blame Aaron, the first two “hits” were jokes. Little league infield gets them.

Is it technically a rookie debut? How many games did he pitch for us last year?
9 starts last year (I looked it up) and a 4-2 record. Yeah, it was his first appearance of the season, but I don’t know if I’d call him a rookie at t his point.
Anyway, the Yanks won 5-2, splitting the series.
