Opening Day Open Thread

Like so many of you, we at WFNY cannot wait for the first pitch of the 2009 Cleveland Indians season. We all know you want to watch today’s game, but so many of you are at work and can at best, follow along online or listen to the dulcet tones of Tommy Hamilton. There is an alternative – chat aling with the WFNY crew. Kevin Millwood steps on the hill for the Texas Rangers and is about to fire his first pitch…. and away we go……..

    #3: to listen/watch? I do not.

I’m listening on the radio and following it on ESPN game cast:
    http://scores.espn.go.com/mlb/gamecast?gameId=290406113

MLB’s game cast app is pretty decent as well.

i got the yearly audio package for $15

  • 7. April 6, 2009

So, is WTAM broadcasting the game? The streaming audio on the iphone app is some british guy rambling on about Kim Jong Il.

  • TD
    11. April 6, 2009

    ok..i lied…4-6-3 is not what I ordered after a 10 pitch AB

  • 12. April 6, 2009

I give up. I’m buying MLB at the plate for the iPhone for $10. Looks like MLB stopped Clearchannel from streaming MLB games. Jerks.

  • TD
    26. April 6, 2009

he is fine…accept Marlon Brd just hit a double down the line…2nd and 3rd…one out.

  • DP

  • Boomhauer
    31. April 6, 2009

Or maybe spring training does matter…

  • DP
    32. April 6, 2009

Salty with a 2-run single. D’oh. Ever since he got drilled, Cliff has been struggling.

  • TD
    33. April 6, 2009

saltalamachia, two run single….weak….left the pitch too far over the middle of the plate.

  • Eli
    34. April 6, 2009

And since that blow, 2 runs in.

  • adam
    35. April 6, 2009

wow the flood gates open on lee

  • Eli
    36. April 6, 2009

Another screamer down the line for a double. Yuck.

  • TD
    37. April 6, 2009

he isnt locating his pitches…just like spring….everything is in the middle of the plate

  • Eli
    38. April 6, 2009

    40. April 6, 2009

Good thing the Tribe didn’t offer Lee a contract extension.

  • Boomhauer
    41. April 6, 2009

Wedge said Lee wasn’t very focused in Arizona.

  • TD
    42. April 6, 2009

i dont ever remember him giving up four straight hits last year…than again, the ball that drille dhim on the arm is affecting him.

  • Boomhauer
    43. April 6, 2009

Get ready for the Zach Attack today!

  • TD
    44. April 6, 2009

Manning just said that that pop foul would have been an out last year. They added two rows of seats behind home plate….Now Hamilton is up with the bases loaded….ugh

  • Eli
    45. April 6, 2009

I say its time Cliff got another recharge visit to the minors.

  • TD
    46. April 6, 2009

The Attack is getting warm Boomhauer!

  • DP
    47. April 6, 2009

Phew. Could have been even worse with Hamilton up.

  • DP
    48. April 6, 2009

I’m not ready to send Lee down just yet. He *did* take a line drive OFF OF HIS PITCHING ARM!! Calm down, folks.

  • mendy
    49. April 6, 2009

gamecast isn’t working for some reason! nooooooo!

  • 50. April 6, 2009

@ #20 and #49 – not working well for me right now. No audio, although the picture feeds are working Ok. I want sound!!!

  • TD
    51. April 6, 2009

#49 – you arent missing much. We dont have a hit through 3.

  • Eli
    52. April 6, 2009

I was kidding with my sending down to the minors comment. Sarcasm doesn’t come through well on the internet for some reason.

Sabathia also had a nice habit of giving up the house within the first two innings before settling down, so I’m used to this kind of pitching. And yea, getting hit on the arms certainly doesn’t make someone pitch better.

  • 53. April 6, 2009

Rangers radio (KRLD) is streaming right now through MLB At Bat. WTAM having issues. This guy is boring. NEEDS MORE TOM HAMILTON!

  • 54. April 6, 2009

well, at least Millwood can’t get a perfect game, only a no no.

    yikes.

  • 55. April 6, 2009

    @ #20

I cannot get WTAM on my MLB Audio either. I had to listen to Dubyah tell the listeners that the Rangers were “lighting up” Cliff Lee…

  • TD
    56. April 6, 2009

Here’s where having Hafner hitting cleanup is going to bite Wedge in the ass.

  • TD
    61. April 6, 2009

    oh Pronk….another inning ending DP

  • Eli
    62. April 6, 2009

Wow…he could have just struck out with that crappy swing, but no, had to hit the tapper!

  • 63. April 6, 2009

You have to wonder how long keeping Hafner there just because he’s a lefty will stick.

  • 64. April 6, 2009

    DP NK.

  • 65. April 6, 2009

    Hafner sucks…

  • Boomhauer
    66. April 6, 2009

    WFNY

…where we’ll be one year closer to the end of Hafner’s contract

  • Eli
    67. April 6, 2009

Hafner used to have a pretty decent eye back when he was hitting well. Now, he seems to swing at garbage all the time.

  • TD
    68. April 6, 2009

Boomhauer- im with you….he has done nothing to prove he should be in that spot in the last two years. Id rather have Choo 4th if he needs a lefty there.

  • Scotty P
    69. April 6, 2009

2 hits, thats all we got is 2 d*mn hits?!

ah who cares, no ones listening anyways.

  • DCBucks
    70. April 6, 2009

Are you guys still here? I figured everyone would have been on to less painful activities like getting a root canal or having an eye put out with a red hot poker.

  • TD
    71. April 6, 2009

Underwood: “I dont know how that ball didnt hit Millwood”

replays showed the ball a good five feet between Millwood and the ball hit by Choo

    72. April 6, 2009

  • Scotty P
    76. April 6, 2009

at least Blaylock is on my fantasy team

    Crap!!! so is Lee

  • DP
    77. April 6, 2009

    Gone. Game over.

  • 78. April 6, 2009

Forget this. Game’s over. Season’s over. I am so sad right now.

    :-)

  • 79. April 6, 2009

And Cliff Lee’s contract with the Devil is officially expired…

    I hate being from Cleveland.

  • DP
    80. April 6, 2009

I don’t think the season’s over, but down 7 with 12 outs left against a pitcher who’s allowed two hits through five doesn’t exactly make me feel confident for today’s chances, hehehe.

  • 81. April 6, 2009

Just get me to that bullpen, please…. a Texas bullpen = a fighting chance.

Mark Shapiro is shivering right now.

  • Eli
    82. April 6, 2009

As many have said, at least we saved the money we would have wasted by signing Lee in the offseason.

  • DCBucks
    83. April 6, 2009

12.60 ERA… Yup, right on par with spring training. But, spring training never carries over into the regular season. Much.

  • DP
    84. April 6, 2009

    Bout time, Wedge. It’s 7-nothin’.

  • 85. April 6, 2009

I need a response to people when they bash the Indians…now that it isn’t Spring Training I can’t use “At least it doesn’t count” any more.

  • B-bo
    86. April 6, 2009

Look at it this way: at least the pressure of a perfect season is no longer a worry

  • MacNip
    87. April 6, 2009

It’s one game out of 162 people

  • Jon S.
    88. April 6, 2009

This is the only acceptable situation for Masa Kobayashi to be pitching. At least Wedge got that right.

  • Boomhauer
    89. April 6, 2009

Gasoline on the fire – it’s Kobiyashi time!

  • Josh
    90. April 6, 2009

i’m not going to overreact and say the season is over…and i hope those doing so are just joking…

however……….i hope Lee is just working off the rust….

  • 91. April 6, 2009

    What’s that “1″ in the “R” column?

  • DP
    92. April 6, 2009

Apparently, Scott, when you have a runner touch the plate, you are awarded a run. Having not seen this all day, I was confused myself.

  • DCBucks
    93. April 6, 2009

The number you’ll see next to Cleveland in the final box score most of the season.

  • Jewpants
    94. April 6, 2009

have you guys heard? there’s a one day sale at the team shop!*

  • Jon
    95. April 6, 2009

So Hafner hit .333 with a run, and Cliff Lee put up a 12+ ERA… I’m confused.

  • DP
    96. April 6, 2009

This is officially an a$$ whipping.

  • TampaBrett
    97. April 6, 2009

Wow. Haven’t watched the game at all. Just checked the score. Hopefully the Rangers are just really really good this year. LOL Then again. It is a Cleveland team they’re playing.

  • Jon
    98. April 6, 2009

    My bad… Hafner went .225 –

Can we get Millwood back now?

Personally I’m not worried about Lee. No, I was WORRIED 2 weeks ago; now I’m just sad.

  • 99. April 6, 2009

Five of our 81 losses last season were by eight runs or more. Yuck.

  • 100. April 6, 2009

    100!

  • DCBucks
    101. April 6, 2009

And don’t forget our secret weapon in the rotation – CARL PAVANO!

  • deep13
    103. April 7, 2009

Well, at least Perez pitched well.
