Figures. Just when I actually post Matt’s fine work, we have a game like last week. In his defense, we should have won that game and easily covered the spread. If I were one to wager on that game, I’d be hitting up Romeo Crennel for a refund. Thankfully, we add a little extra to this week’s edition to get ahead of the game. Without a Buckeyes game to look at this week, Matt was given the task of wagering his Monopoly Money on the Cleveland Browns. With this week’s game being huge, I wouldn’t recommend adding to the high blood pressure by placing any wager on this contest. I owe Matt and the readers of WFNY a sincere apology as I was unable to post last week’s GAMBLOG before Browns kickoff. As luck would have it, he went 2-0 with his selections and moved his overall ATS record to 15-5. Let’s hope that he can keep it all going this week as we roll into a little mix of college football and the pros, while steering clear of the Browns. Okay, here we go. This marks the start of a new era in the Gamblog. No longer will Matt pick his “lock” of the week. Instead the writers at WFNY will select the game of the week and a random prop bet to go along with it. First things first, I need to apologize to Matt, the author of these GAMBLOGs. You see, last week he picked 2 games for us, the Cowboys/Browns and the Giants/Redskins. However, due to my own personal busy schedule, I was unable to get his picks posted prior to the games starting, and wouldn’t you know it, Matt got them both right once again. Yes, that means he picked the Cowboys over the Browns, but this weekly feature isn’t about homer-ism, it’s about getting the picks right. Picks Of The Week – March 9, 2008
Back again with Matt’s GAMBLOG for this week. In a down year for OSU hoops, and a year in which thanks to the formation of the Big Ten Network and Time Warner’s refusal to pick it up I have seen only a quarter of the games tops (and I won’t be able to watch this game….thanks Big Ten and Time Warner), we’ve not really covered OSU basketball here at WFNY much. But, as far as big games go, this one is about as big as they get. With a win Sunday and at least one win the Big Ten Tournament, OSU is looking to back their way into the Dance. With a loss on Sunday, though, you can probably count OSU out of the tournament short of a Big Ten Tournament title. Time for the latest installment of the GAMBLOG. For once, I think I agree with Matt’s pick. Sorry, Matt, looks like you’re about to get one wrong this week. Although, I do appreciate Matt’s disclaimer at the bottom after I gave him a rough time last week about making up spreads. Don’t get me wrong…..He’s still making up spreads, but now he’s giving us a disclaimer. It’s all good, though. His spreads are frighteningly close (almost to the point if you didn’t know better, you might think he’s actually a bookie), and so we’ll continue to go with the flow. Good work as always, Matt. Picks Of The Week – February 22, 2008
After taking a week off (as though being a new parent can really be that tough) Matt is back for another GAMBLOG installment. This week he makes up a spread, which is shady, but I’ll let it slide this time. Picks Of The Week – February 11, 2008
Well, Matt didn’t believe me that he was nuts last week, and now he doesn’t believe me again that this game has disaster written all over it for the Cavaliers. Obviously it’s a large spread, but when you look at the history of teams on the road at the back end of back-to-games against the spread, combined with the injury situation of the Cavaliers and the recent success of the Magic against the Cavaliers, and it looks like a sucker’s bet. But the first rule of gambling is that when everyone and their mother is going one way, the smart bet is to go the other way….and that’s exactly what Matt has done. Super Bowl XLII, Proposition Bets
Carrying on with the tradition of The GAMBLOG, I thought it would be a great idea to touch on the proposition bets that infiltrate Super Bowl weekend. You see, with only one game on the docket, there is not very much action to throw money on – so if we add a few elements to the game (and in this case, a few elements outside of the actual game itself), it makes things a bit more interesting for those without particular rooting interest. Or in some cases, those that simply need to bet on something.
There are entirely too many bets to mention in this post, so if you need to see them all, head over to Bodoglife.com. I’ll only touch on the ones that I feel give us some decent odds for success. And by “decent,” I mean “Oh, what the heck – its only money.”

We’ll start this puppy off somewhat chronologically. Last year, some people made a big deal regarding the fact that we could bet on how long it would take Billy Joel to get through the National Anthem. The final line was one minute and 44 seconds, and those that took under were handsomely rewarded. This year, we can thank Mr. Joel for moving the line a bit for this year’s singer, Jordin Sparks.

Loyal reader Matt has asked to write a ‘Picks Of The Week’ segment for the Cleveland Sports Authority, and I decided it seemed like a great idea, so I am pleased to announce the first segment of ‘GAMBLOG’. Once a week Matt will give you his picks of the week against the spread. Enjoy these, and don’t take them too seriously. Matt is not an expert, just an enthusiast. So if you take his advice and lose some money, don’t expect compensation from Matt. Although, if you win some money, Cleveland Sports Authority will gladly take 10% for giving you such great picks. Championship weekend edition
Sunday, January 20th @ 3:00 PM on CBS

New England -14 at Gillette Stadium
This week marks two of the larger spreads in recent championship weekend memory. New England could obviously bust out a 14 point victory on any given Sunday; I just don’t see it happening with this much at stake against a pesky San Diego team that has won 8 games in a row. Both teams have distractions this week, the Chargers are suffering from multiple player injuries and the Patriots allegedly have players inflicting injuries on civilians. However, I don’t think either will play a big part on Sunday. I look for the Chargers to make a game out it for three quarters, with the Patriots pulling away in usual fashion winning by 13 points and making most gamblers sweat to the final snap.

Green Bay -7 at Lambeau Field
The late game features two teams I never expected to make it to the NFC Championship game at the beginning of the season. The Giants lost their biggest offensive contributor in Tiki Barber to retirement, and the Packers seemed destined for another season hovering around .500. The Packers came flying out of the gates and never let up, and the Giants flew under the radar all the way until week 17 when they gave New England a scare. I have never seen a team gain so much confidence from a loss, but Eli and the Giants have seemed to pull together and are putting together a captivating run. Unfortunately for them, no one is more fascinating than Brett Favre and legend of Lambeau Field. Nobody wins in the playoffs at Lambeau besides the Packers, with the exception of Vick’s Falcons a few years back. Along with the rest of the country, I’m pulling for Favre to get back to the Super Bowl. The cold weather and bruising defenses help keep this a relatively low scoring game, but the Packers prevail with a game winning field goal as time expires. Giants cover, but Eli will have to wait another year to chase his brother’s fame.
