Poll Results: What are the Browns chances week by week for 2012?

The poll is still open, but I figured with over 500 responses it was enough of a sample to do some math, calculate some results and run some trials. I know that the stats don’t work 100% and that when you try to apply math to an equation as large as an NFL season encompassing coaches, players, weather, stadiums, fans, referees, front offices and much more. At the same time, I figured it might be interesting to see if you apply a little bit of expectations (even really pessimistic ones) to an NFL schedule how the percentages would come out. So here goes. Based on your votes this is the percentage chance the Browns have in each game this year.

Week Base Case
1 Sun., Sept. 9 PHILADELPHIA EAGLES – FOX 1:00 p.m. 38%
2 Sun., Sept. 16 at Cincinnati Bengals – CBS 1:00 p.m. 50%
3 Sun., Sept. 23 BUFFALO BILLS – CBS 1:00 p.m. 60%
4 Thur., Sept. 27 at Baltimore Ravens – NFLN 8:20 p.m. 26%
5 Sun., Oct. 7 at New York Giants – CBS 1:00 p.m. 30%
6 Sun., Oct. 14 CINCINNATI BENGALS – CBS 1:00 p.m. 59%
7 Sun., Oct. 21 at Indianapolis Colts – CBS 1:00 p.m. 71%
8 Sun., Oct. 28 SAN DIEGO CHARGERS – CBS 1:00 p.m. 48%
9 Sun., Nov. 4 BALTIMORE RAVENS – CBS 1:00 p.m. 35%
10 Sun., Nov. 18 at Dallas Cowboys – CBS 1:00 p.m. (After Bye) 44%

Poll: What are the Browns chances week by week for 2012?

We’ve talked a lot about schedule analysis and trying to figure out what chances the Browns have at various finishes based on having a difficult schedule. I thought it might be interesting to take the pulse of the fanbase now so that we can look at the results now and also have them for after the season. I think it will be interesting, especially because we are pre-draft right now.

Predicting wins and losses is more difficult than the Browns schedule

Remember this one? We used this before predicting the 2010 Browns record.

The Cleveland Browns rattled off four wins to end a tumultuous 2009 season. Prior to the four wins the Browns only other win was one of the least entertaining football games I’ve ever watched in my NFL-watching history as the Browns beat the Bills 6-3 in some ridiculous wind. Still, the Browns seemed headed in the right direction as they beat the Steelers, Chiefs, Raiders and Jaguars by pounding the ball and riding Jerome Harrison and Josh Cribbs. Mangini kept his job and when the schedule for 2010 came out, Browns fans started counting up wins and losses. Surely the Browns would be able to handle an easy early schedule featuring the Buccaneers who went 3-13 in 2009 and Chiefs who went 4-14.

The Browns came out and dropped both of those first two games by five total points and all of a sudden even the most modest of expectations for the Browns were dashed completely and totally. You can call WFNY a homer site if you want because most of our writers took the over when the line came out at 5.5. At the same time, to a man, our expectations of over were all for 6 wins. That’s not important though. What’s important is that the Browns lost two of the games that many (including many at this site) had counted up as Ws prior to the season. [Read more...]

2012 Cleveland Browns Schedule Released (For Real)

The official NFL 2012 schedule was released Tuesday evening with great ceremony and fanfare, but once again the Browns will not play a primetime game at Cleveland Browns Stadium. All eight home games are scheduled for  Sunday afternoon at 1:00 pm EST. Pat Shurmur and company face one of the league’s hardest schedules, with eight 2011 playoff teams on the docket. By opponent’s win percentage, it’s the third hardest schedule in the league.

The Browns open the season at home for the 13th time in 14 years, with the Eagles traveling to the north coast in Week 1. The only primetime game of the season is once again in the division, with the Browns playing the Ravens in Week 4 on NFL Network’s Thursday Night Football. The Browns will finish the home season against the Washington Redskins, who will likely have Robert Griffin III under center.

NFL to release schedule Tuesday 4/17 at 7:00 PM

The NFL has decided to make a production of the schedule release tomorrow night at 7:00 PM EST on NFL Network and NFL.com. You will remember that a leaked schedule showed up a few weeks back and was eventually refuted by Greg Aiello of the NFL. We’ll see if that schedule is accurate at all soon enough. Despite the denial by the NFL, it was my suspicion that the leaked schedule was a draft of some kind that wasn’t supposed to find its way out.

Maybe I’m wrong though. We’ll see. Here is that leaked schedule from a few weeks ago.
