NFL News: Browns’ draft pick Armonty Bryant arrested on DUI charges

Cleveland Browns seventh-round draft pick Armonty Bryant was arrested Friday morning in Ada, Oklahoma, and charged with driving under the influence, according to a police report.

The Ada News reports that Bryant was pulled over late Friday night and refused a breathalyzer. The arresting officer reported smelling alcohol on Bryant’s breath and asked him to step out of the vehicle. When asked if he’d had anything to drink, the report said Bryant initially denied it. The officer administered sobriety tests at the scene and said Bryant reportedly had difficulty with several of the steps. Bryant then admitted to having “a few drinks earlier in the evening.”

The officer claimed that, after 10 attempts at administering a breathalyzer, Bryant just “puffed his cheeks and acted like he was blowing into the Intoxilyzer.”

Jail records show Bryant had posted his $500 bail and was checked out of the Justice Center at 10:30 a.m. Friday.

On the third day of the 2013 draft, the Browns drafted Bryant in the seventh round (No. 217 overall) despite his off-field baggage. Bryant was suspended for three games in 2012 after being arrested on the practice field in October due to charges of selling $20 of marijuana twice to an undercover officer. Following his selection, Bryant said he was grateful for the Browns taking a chance on him and vowed to stay out of trouble.

“Now that I’ve gotten that second chance, I feel like I won’t let anyone down,” said Bryant. ”I won’t let myself, the people around me or the Cleveland Browns down. I appreciate them for taking this chance on me.”

An athletic defensive end, Bryant was largely considered a low-risk selection with a high potential reward if he were to stay focused.

“We are aware of the incident and are now in the process of collecting more information,” Browns vice president of media relations Neal Gulkis said in a statement. “We will not have any further comment.”

OSU LB Storm Klein Arrested

Ohio State senior linebacker Storm Klein was arrested Friday evening in Columbus on charges of domestic violence and assault.

Klein, who has started 10 games for the Buckeyes and a potential starter, remains innocent until proven guilty of course. But his arrest marks already the 3rd arrest for Buckeye players since Urban Meyer’s arrival.

The Buckeye coach came to Columbus with a reputation for having players with legal issues at Florida and while he didn’t recruit any of the players who have been arrested, this certainly isn’t going to sit well with the coach. If the charges stick, expect Klein to be made into an example by Meyer.

No details or comments have been released by Ohio State at this time.

NFL News: Cleveland Browns DT Kiante Tripp Arrested on Burglary Charges

Cleveland Browns defensive tackle Kiante Tripp has been arrested and jailed on charges of burglary stemming from an incident which reportedly occurred in College Park, Georgia.

Tripp, per WAGA-TV in Atlanta, and two others are accused of threatening people inside of an apartment and then “ransacking” the place. Police told The Associated Press that Tripp and the men were arrested Sunday. Investigators reportedly told the station that Tripp and the other men were looking for an individual and some money that allegedly was stolen from them. Neighbors told police officials that men with guns entered the apartment. The original report also said that one member of the party was also changed with possession of marijuana.

The Browns, through general manager Tom Heckert, confirmed their awareness regarding the second-year player but declined any further comment. The 6-foot-6-inch, 276-pound Tripp was an undrafted rookie who was later promoted to the Browns’ roster last November, playing in three games and recording a lone tackle.

Browns’ Gerard Lawson Spurns Curfew, Arrested on DUI Charges

Browns defensive back Gerard Lawson reportedly was involved in a game of late-night automobile pinball on Saturday, resulting in his arrest on DUI hit-skip charges.

The 25-year-old Lawson was allegedly driving intoxicated through Cleveland’s Warehouse District (West 6th St) where he hit a parked automobile but opted to continue driving.  He was pulled over seconds later by Sheriff’s deputies, but was handed over to Cleveland police for what would subsequently result in his arrest.

The team has made their token comment that follows all other arrests, where they are “continuing to gather information” and will “not make any further comment.”

Donte Stallworth’s 911 Call Audio Released

stallworth_courtAnd the Donte Stallworth situation continues to unfold.  I’m actually pretty surprised that it took this long for the audio to surface.  Via NBCMiami.com, we have the 911 call that was placed shortly after the now-suspended wide receiver struck Mario Reyes with his automobile on March 14th.

While there is some questionable language, you can definitely tell that Stallworth was (understandably) shaken up.

Stallworth:“Ok, listen, listen…This guy just ran in front of my car and he’s (expletive) laying in the street dude…I, I…”

Dispatch: “So you hit somebody in the street?”

Stallworth: “Yeah, you gotta send an ambulance right now man.” [...] “He ran in front of the car sir, he like jumped in front of the car.  Oh no. [Expletive.] Oh my God, this guy is…oh…”

Feel free to take a listen yourself.  It’s not exactly the most comforting audio that you’ll hear today – or ever – so you’ve been warned.

Alex Boone: Tasered and Arrested, Definitely Not a Ninja.

Alex Boone Mug ShotAlmost three years ago, Ohio State Buckeye Alex Boone was arrested and convicted on a driving under the influence charge.  He was then 18-years of age, but managed to avoid a jail sentence due to being 0.001 of a percent under the legal limit for a mandatory three-day stint.  Needless to say, after his antics Sunday evening, Boone’s jail-free luck seems to have run out.

Obviously upset at the results of Super Bowl XLIII, police officers in Aliso Viejo, California responded to a disturbance outside of a home.  While the term disturbance can encompass many things, they were likely not anticipating a shirtless, nearly seven-foot tall 300-pound man jumping on the hoods of cars, attempting to break windows and yanking on a tow truck cable.
