Top Five Non-Essential Things Jimmy Haslam Should Do With the Browns

There is a whole Tumblr page dedicated to these Browns jerseys. It is funny, but also embarrassing.

There are some really important decisions to make about front-office personnel, coaching and stadium issues, but I have some less relevant things that Jimmy Haslam should probably tackle when he finally officially becomes owner of the Browns. Here they are in non slide show format…

5. Start an obsolete Browns jersey trade-in program

I don’t know what the appropriate denominations are to make this program work, but it is high time that Cleveland Browns fans everywhere be given special amnesty for the hosts of bad jerseys that have been purchased over the years. Even a fan favorite like Chris Spielman is an utter debacle from the perspective of consumerism. Additionally, and more seriously, the obsolete jerseys running around the circles of Cleveland Browns fans is reinforcing the exact culture that Jimmy Haslam is coming in to change. It doesn’t do anyone in the world any bit of good to be at the same tailgate with some guy wearing a much-too-bright-and-clean Jake Delhomme jersey. Even worse, what team with Trent Richardson needs to be reminded of the failures of William Green, Travis Prentice, and even Peyton Hillis? Offer a voucher to get at least a high percentage of those bad boys off the street. [Read more...]

The Browns’ Quiet Season Could Be Especially Quiet

There is almost nothing to talk about with the Browns for the next couple weeks.  In a town that thrives on Browns news both good and bad, it is tough for us as fans to really not have anything of substance to talk about.

Anything substantive about the draft has already been said until the rumor mill starts going again in the next couple weeks.  Free agency and roster moves are also premature this time of year.  This year, in particular, it could be even worse.

With the status of the collective bargaining agreement we don’t know what free agency will look like.  Will there be a franchise tag?  I am sure Peyton Manning wants to know.  Will there be a rookie wage scale?  I hope so, personally, but all those soon-to-be first round draft picks sure wish they knew the answer to that question.  While it is in our nature to speculate like crazy about a million different things this time of year, it seems especially futile with so many important factors hanging in the air. The Internet Predicts Shakeup in Berea

Update: Nothing to see here.  It appears that all the speculation that started with Colin Cowherd was for nothing.  The Browns didn’t do anything except move their press conference back.  I am relieved.  I am relieved that given the opportunity to act completely dysfunctionally, it didn’t happen in Berea this time.  There are ways to handle your business and I don’t think firing people in the middle of the season (except in extreme examples: Wade Phillips) makes any sense what-so-ever.  We will have more on this tomorrow, but as of now, nothing happened.  Waiting to find out how healthy Colt McCoy is and we now know that Jake Delhomme and Seneca Wallace are both completely healthy. (End update.)

The Internet is abuzz with rumor and speculation right now.  Eric Mangini’s press conference was allegedly rescheduled from 10:30 AM to 3:00 PM.  Then it was changed again from 3:00 PM to 4:00 PM.  Colin Cowherd’s name has been bandied about as someone who fueled further speculation that there could be major shakeups in Berea today.  So now we are left to wait and wonder.  I have tried my best to get to the bottom of it, but there is no clarity anywhere right now if anything is or is not actually happening today.
