While We’re Waiting… Jeremy Lamb Rising, More NBA Draft Donuts, Hannahan DL Situation

While We’re Waiting serves as the early morning gathering of WFNY-esque information for your viewing pleasure. Have something you think we should see? Send it to our tips email at tips@waitingfornextyear.com.

Yup, I’ve been drinking a lot of the Jeremy Lamb Kool-Aid lately. This is just another explanation of why: “4. Jeremy Lamb, University of Connecticut – This will put me in the minority, I think, but I believe Lamb would be a fine selection at 4. It is easy to forget how good Richard Hamilton was, but Lamb really has his potential, with the frame to support more muscle than Rip ever did. He shoots midrange lights out, is a fine long distance shooter, can create a bit of his own offense but uses off-ball screens better than most his age. Without Lamb, there is absolutely no way UCONN would have won a national championship in 2011. He was able to feed off a shoot first point guard and get his own opportunities and make the most of them. I believe with Kyrie Irving, its a perfect fit.” [David Zavac/Fear The Sword]

Report: Buckeyes TE Jake Stoneburner Arrested

Some odd news coming out of central Ohio today, as it appears that the Buckeyes No. 1 tight end was arrested earlier this morning. The incident took place in tiny Shawnee Hills near the Columbus Zoo, and here’s what 10TV in Columbus has as its report for now:

Ohio State senior tight end Jake Stoneburner was arrested on Saturday and was charged with obstructing official business.

According to the Delaware County Sheriff’s Office, Stoneburner, 22, was arrested sometime on Saturday by the Shawnee Hills police.

The circumstances of his arrest were not immediately released.

OSU’s The Lantern also has a story on this, but there are very few additional details there as well, just the time of arrest and that he posted bond. Stoneburner is projected to have a larger role in Urban Meyer’s offense, which traditionally promotes more play by its athletic tight ends. We’ll let you know if any more details ever surface from this odd story.

Open Thread: #2 Ohio State vs. Eastern Michigan

#2 Ohio State Buckeyes vs.
Eastern Michigan Eagles
Ohio Stadium, Columbus, OH
ABC, WKNR 850 AM,
3:30 p.m. EST

It’s another cupcake today as the Buckeyes conclude their non-conference schedule with a match-up against a second straight team from the Mid-American Conference. After trouncing Ohio last week, OSU looks to move into the Big 10 season on a good note with a hopeful victory at Ohio Stadium this afternoon.

The Eagles are 0-3 this year and 0-15 under the realm of former Michigan assistant coach Ron English. In his first head coaching stint, English has struggled to bring a winning identify to Ypsilanti as the team continues to finish toward the bottom of the MAC.

Follow along in the comments as the Bucks look to continue their hot play in 2010.

While We’re Waiting… Izzo Says No, Conference Championships and Santana

While We’re Waiting serves up an daily breakfast buffet of WFNY-esque goodies for your reading pleasure. Have something else you think we should see and write about tomorrow? Send it to all of us at our fancy tips email address at tips@waitingfornextyear.com.

The ultimate beat writer talks about the Izzo failure: “When the Cavaliers fired Mike Brown three weeks ago, team owner Dan Gilbert knew he was taking a risk with LeBron James’ free agency clouding the franchise’s future. It is an unprecedented situation and it required unprecedented measures, which Gilbert took by aggressively going after Michigan State coach Tom Izzo. He offered a massive amount of money and the sort of support Gilbert’s become known for in his five years running the team.” [Brian Windhorst/Plain Dealer]

And from the college basketball world, what the no-change means for Michigan State: “When the puff of smoke came out of the chimneys in East Lansing and Tom Izzo ended his tap dance with NBA riches, telling the Cleveland Cavaliers that LeBron James or no LeBron James, he was staying with Michigan State, it was another reason for college athletics to sigh a breath of relief.” [Dana O'Neil/ESPN.com]

While We’re Waiting…Pavlik Returns, Shaq wins NBA _____ of the Month, Chiefs-Browns Worst Matchup Ever?

 Pavlik

Looking at Kelly Pavlik as he returns to the ring tonight in Youngstown after a long layoff: “In a weird twist of reality Pavlik went to Las Vegas to train for this fight, because it provided a much calmer and private atmosphere to train as opposed to Youngstown. Weird, huh? But by all accounts the left hand, specifically the knuckle of the index finger is back to 100%.  What also appears to be back to 100%, by Kelly’s own account, is his hunger and passion for boxing. Something many in his hometown were starting to question. I personally never looked at it like that. It appeared to be more of a year to put the boat in neutral and recharge the batteries. Kelly had a lot of irons in fire outside the ring this year, including opening a restaurant back in August. The crazy thing is the break and hand problems just may have come at the best time, in a business sense.  Boxing has a lot of momentum heading into 2010 with the headlining super bout of Pac-Man vs. Money Mayweather.  So their is money to be made across all weight divisions. As an American World Champ in a highlight division, it should be a big healthy and productive year in the spotlight for the man know as The Ghost.” [DiNunzio/Thunder Treats]

#16 Buckeyes Trounce #11 Nittany Lions 24-7: “Best Win in a Long Time”

Ohio St Penn St FootballWhat a game, what a win and what an incredible series of events for the Ohio State Buckeyes. Just 24 hours ago, this team supposedly lacked an identity offensively and needed to win back-to-back games against top 12 teams in order to take home the Big 10 title. In the end however, #4 Iowa’s upset defeat at the hands of Northwestern along with #16 Ohio State’s absolute pummeling of #11 Penn State, the Buckeyes are in the driver’s seat for the Rose Bowl.

Coming into the game everyone and their mother knew that the scoreboard battle would be decided by the play of the quarterbacks. Daryll Clark had been one of the most efficient quarterbacks in the country, let alone the conference, while Terrelle Pryor was only three weeks removed from his four-turnover meltdown against Purdue. For the first time in 2009 however, Ohio sports fans were rewarded for their patience and devotion as the Pryor and the Bucks absolutely tore about the Lions on the road. All this prompted a text from my dad late last night declaring this as the “best win in a long time” and that is very hard to ignore for this program.

Ohio State vs. Penn State Preview/Open Thread

#16 Ohio State at #11 Penn State | Beaver Stadium, State College, PA
3:30 PM EST | TV: ABC | Line: Penn St. (-5.5)

Sacking ClarkWhat a wild and strange journey this has been. The 7-2 Ohio State Buckeyes travel to State College this afternoon for a game at Beaver Stadium as they control their destiny in the race for the Big 10 title. Despite depressing losses against USC and Purdue, the Buckeyes still have a chance of making it all the way to the Rose Bowl by winning out the rest of the season. That all starts today when Terrelle Pryor plays his first game back in his hometown state against the 8-1 Penn State Nittany Lions.

#4 Iowa is in a struggle yet again with Northwestern today, but either way this contest is huge in the battle for conference supremacy. Penn State already lost to the Hawkeyes and a loss today would pretty much eliminate them from contention for the conference title. Ohio State on the other hand, begins their epic conclusion to this season with this road contest, hosting Iowa and then traveling to Michigan. Win all three games, and the Buckeyes are yet again the undisputed champions of the Big 10 Conference.
