Rookie Rankings: Lillard’s big fear, Waiters keeps chucking

With the Cavaliers having two rookies playing prominent minutes, WFNY thought it would beneficial to see how the fresh meat around the league is faring in comparison with the Cavalier rookies. Each week, we’ll have NBA rookie power rankings where we’ll rack and stack the freshman class of the NBA. The rankings will be weighted with the most recent games carrying the most importance, but the whole body of work will be taken into account. Great beards and great celebrations may also play a large factor in rankings.

The end of November is upon us. Halloween and Thanksgiving are distant memories as we turn toward the final month of 2012. Basketball and football overwhelm the televeision schedule in December, giving us plenty to watch while spending time with our families on December’s traditional holidays of Christmas, Hanukkah and New Years. This year, we get the treat of another special day in December because on December 21 the world may or may not end. That means we may or may not only have 21 more days of basketball to watch, 21 more days of arguing team vs. team, or player vs. player. There’ll be plenty of time to talk about Armageddon 1 , but for now we must talk basketball. More specifically, the NBA. Not just the NBA, but its crop of rookies. We’ve seen the surprise rise of Damian Lillard in Portland, and flashes of what’s to come for Anthony Davis in NOLA. We’ve seen Dion Waiters become allergic to passing, and Michael Kidd-Gilchrist be exactly who we thought he was. With so many rookies playing large roles for their teams the first month of the season, it’s important we take a step back and see where the NBA’s fresh meat stands after one month of play. Chad Ford: Cavs Would Love To Trade Up To 2, Considering Lamb at #4

ESPN’s Chad Ford, no matter how you feel about his talent evaluation, is an NBA draft pundit who definitely has his ear to the ground when it comes to NBA team intel. As with the NFL draft, there is always misinformation being intentionally leaked by teams to manipulate the actions of others, so as always, take this with a grain of salt.

In his latest draft blog, Chad Ford writes that the Cavaliers would love to move up to #2:

The Bobcats will likely decide between Kentucky’s Michael Kidd-Gilchrist and Kansas’ Thomas Robinson at No. 2. Bradley Beal, Andre Drummond and Harrison Barnes are all in the mix there, but it seems like Kidd-Gilchrist and Robinson are the two top guys on the board. [Read more...]

Box Score: Bobcats 90, Cavaliers 103

Maybe there’s something to this whole Lesanity thing after all?

The Cavaliers took a lead into halftime, then came out cold in the 2nd half and saw the Bobcats come back and take the lead. From there, Lester Hudson took over. With Cavs owner Dan Gilbert sitting in with Fred and AC in the TV broadcast, Lester once again showed his boss why he belongs on the Cavaliers roster.

Hudson finished the game with 25 points, 8 rebounds, and 6 assists in this his 3rd straight game with 23+ points. Granted, those games were against all lottery teams in Toronto, New Jersey, and Charlotte, but still, you can’t take anything away from the way this guy is playing right now.

Overall the Cavaliers had 5 players in double digits, with the old guys Parker and Jamison chipping in 19 and 17 points respectively. All in all a nice win for the wine and gold.

Cleveland Cavaliers Set to Square Off with the Charlotte Bobcats

The Cleveland Cavaliers (2-2) will have a chance to keep their positive momentum going Tuesday night at 7:00 pm when they host the struggling Charlotte Bobcats (1-3).

So far this early season the Cavaliers have developed a bit of a trend. When they are hitting their 3s, they win. When they’re not, they lose. This can be a problematic trend as teams that live and die with the three point shot tend to do a lot of dying. In the NBA, it’s tough to rely on that shot consistently night in and night out. This is all part of the team’s growing process as they must develop ways to score and win games besides just launching threes.

Having said that, though, the matchup with the Bobcats could allow the Cavaliers opportunities to continue their hot shooting from outside. [Read more...]

2010-11 NBA Blogger Previews – Southeast Division

Yep, it’s that time of year again already. Once again, CelticsBlog are hosting the annual Blogger Previews for every team in the NBA. How this works is simple, every day a certain NBA team is up and bloggers who write about said team will offer their previews for that team in the upcoming season. Then, once a division is completed, all the bloggers throughout the NBA who are participating will post links for all the previews for that division.

Next up is the Southeast Division. All the previews are linked below, and I encourage everyone to take a few minutes, click on the links, and check out what writers from across the nation are saying about their own teams. As a reminder, our preview of the Cavaliers’ upcoming season can be found here.

Cavaliers Preview Game #34

Cavaliers vs BobcatsCharlotte Bobcats (12-22) vs
Cleveland Cavaliers (27-6)

The Cavaliers will try to get their groove back tonight as they take on the Charlotte Bobcats at home. In theory this should be a somewhat easy game for the Cavaliers. Cleveland should be up for this game coming off an embarrassing loss in Washington the other day, the Cavaliers are well rested, and the Bobcats are playing a road game on the tail end of back-to-back games. Normally that is a recipe for success for Cleveland. However, the Bobcats just knocked off the Celtics last night, and tonight they will be ready for the #2 team in the East. If the Cavaliers don’t find a way to get their offense back on track tonight, this could be another long and frustrating game to watch.   [Read more...]

Cavaliers Preview Game #2

After dropping a tough game in the first game of the season against the Champs (seriously, how sweet will it be when for one year we can refer to one of our teams simply as “the Champs”???), the Cavaliers will look to bounce back against what is on paper a far inferior opponent in our home opener. The Bobcats always seem to play tough against the Cavaliers, though, and I still have nightmares about Gerald Wallace hitting shot after shot after shot against the Cavs as he always seems to do. The guy is an absolute Cavalier-killer. Last year, the Cavs struggled against almost everyone, hardly ever winning with ease and almost always letting worse teams hang with them. This will be a good test tonight to see how far the Cavaliers have really come. This should be a game the Cavaliers put away early and never look back from, but whether it actual will happen that way is yet to be seen.     [Read more...]
