So, Dan Gilbert Was Wrong

“I PERSONALLY GUARANTEE THAT THE CLEVELAND CAVALIERS WILL WIN AN NBA CHAMPIONSHIP BEFORE THE SELF-TITLED FORMER ‘KING’ WINS ONE”

You can take it to the bank.

If you thought we were motivated before tonight to bring the hardware to Cleveland, I can tell you that this shameful display of selfishness and betrayal by one of our very own has shifted our “motivation” to previously unknown and previously never experienced levels.

Some people think they should go to heaven but NOT have to die to get there.

Sorry, but that’s simply not how it works.

This shocking act of disloyalty from our home grown “chosen one” sends the exact opposite lesson of what we would want our children to learn. And “who” we would want them to grow-up to become.

But the good news is that this heartless and callous action can only serve as the antidote to the so-called “curse” on Cleveland, Ohio.

The self-declared former “King” will be taking the “curse” with him down south. And until he does “right” by Cleveland and Ohio, James (and the town where he plays) will unfortunately own this dreaded spell and bad karma.”

NBA Playoffs Showing Cavaliers How Hard Building a Championship Team Really Is

Even with Kyrie Irving in place, the Cavaliers still have much work to do

With the NBA Finals drawing near, it’s only natural for fans of teams not currently playing basketball to look on from a distance, wondering what it must take to be one of the teams representing their conference in the Finals.

Make no mistake about it, the Cleveland Cavaliers are a very long way away from getting there. The first key component is in place. Kyrie Irving was everything the Cavaliers were hoping for, and more, in his rookie season, but when you consider the 4 Conference Finalists, it’s clear that much work needs to be done.

In the West, the Oklahoma City Thunder have Kevin Durant, Russell Westbrook, and James Harden 1 as part of their “Big 3”. The San Antonio Spurs featured Tim Duncan, Manu Ginobili, and Tony Parker.

The Eastern Conference Finals have their own clash of “Big 3s”. The Boston Celtics have the original Big 3 in Kevin Garnett, Paul Pierce, and Ray Allen. Not to mention Rajon Rondo, who is currently better than any of the original Big 3. The Miami Heat have the most infamous Big 3 in the NBA with LeBron James, Dwyane Wade, and Chris Bosh. A Tale of Two Decisions

It had to cross his mind. If it didn’t hit him last night, it surely will today as he reads all the articles about Dirk Nowitzki’s persistence and what it meant for him to finally win an NBA Championship, the franchise’s first, in the city where he was drafted only city he has ever played in.

It’s simply hard to believe that in his most austere moment of isolated clarity, buried deep in his insecurities somewhere, that LeBron James didn’t allow his mind to drift even briefly to thoughts of what might have been. [Read more...]

Cleveland Cavaliers, Rotisserie Champions

Cleveland Cavaliers

With the NBA regular season winding down, the story lines aren’t heating up, but rather becoming more and more homogenized. With few real playoff races and seeds up for grabs, talk has primarily centered around the MVP race, home court advantage, and which teams have the best chance of winning the title.

So with that in mind, I got to thinking about the Cavaliers’ chances of winning the title. There are literally close to a hundred different ways of looking at it. You can look at any combination of efficiency ratings, point differentials, assist to turnover ratios, rebounding rates, and on and on. What I wanted to do, though, was try to compare the Cavaliers to past NBA Champions to see how they rate.    [Read more...]

Choose Your Own Adventure…Cleveland Style

It certainly is a great time to be a Cavalier fan. Confidence and expectations are at an all time high. Most experts agree that the Cavs are certainly capable of winning the whole thing this year, bringing Cleveland it’s first NBA championship, and first major title since the Browns back in 1964. Not even the shadow of LeBron’s impending free agency is big enough to block out the brilliance of this team. Or is it?

I have a question for you. Well, a scenario really. The best possible outcome for Cleveland fans would be the Cavs winning the Finals this year or next with LeBron deciding to stay put, culminating in a Jordan-like 4 or 5 championship banners hanging from the rafters of the Q, and a statue in the plaza. But let’s just say for argument sake we can’t have that scenario. [Read more...]

Are We Okay With “Contending?”

In reading Terry Pluto’s recent piece, it is uplifting to hear favorable words about the upcoming NBA season.  Partially due to the fact that we have the best player in the league, and others because we have come so far over the past four years.

Here’s a prediction: The Cavaliers will not let the fans down this season.

Well, that is definitely a relief.  Somewhat.  On a case-by-case basis though, it may be something that is tough to gauge.  But in the same, is not winning an NBA title enough at this point?

If the Gladiators Pull This Off…

The Foster Trophy…Do we have to change our URL?

How apropos would it be of Cleveland sports if Bernie Kosar moves a two-win Arena Football League team to Cleveland and it wins a championship?  Alanis Morrisette would have to revise Ironic, as it would be simply mind-blowing.  First the Cleveland Barons, then Force, and now an AFL team in its first year of existence?

Count us in on ESPN’s Titletown USA!

As you may or may not know, the Gladiators are one win away from their first ever Arena Bowl.  The only roadblock in their way are the wavy locks of Jon Bon Jovi and his franchise, the Philadelphia Soul.
