While We’re Waiting… Mo Will’s Value, Charlie Weis to KC, and Evan Turner’s Return

Mo Williams completely disappeared in the post-season last year.

This season? In games that Williams has scored 20+ points, the Cavs are 12-3 and in those games Mo is shooting a ridiculous 61% from three (43-71).  Simply put, when LeBron drives and kicks to Mo and that shot falls, the Cavs are very close to being the best team in basketball.” [But the Game is On]

On Randy Lerner, Credible Leaders and Charlie Weis

quinn_weisRecall the 24-hour period that followed the loss to the Chicago Bears.  Randy Lerner was fuming mad, staring players and coaches like the Undertaker on a Survivor Series Sunday.  Lerner then went public with his desire to get a mastermind of sorts to run the operation known as the one-win Cleveland Browns.  A “credible leader” that would hopefully be hired sooner than later.

And here we stand.

Rumors of Mike Holmgren circulated quicker than Usain Bolt, but have since subsided.  The Seattle Seahawks have now cleared room for the still-Seattle resident to rejoin their franchise.  Mike Shannahan has been tapped by the Buffalo Bills.  Bill Cowher has several links to the Carolina Panthers.

So where does that leave the Browns? [Read more...]

While We’re Waiting… A Perfect LeBron, Charlie Weis and the Browns, and Decision 2010

CLEVELAND - NOVEMBER 21: LeBron James #23 of the Cleveland Cavaliers joins the fans in performing O-H-I-O in tribute of the Ohio State Buckeyes during a break in the action against the Philadelphia 76ers on November 21, 2009 at The Quicken Loans Arena in Cleveland, Ohio. (Photo by David Liam Kyle/NBAE via Getty Images)Your must-read of the day: “A Perfect LeBron James does not exist, and probably never can. More than any player since Magic, LeBron is capable of playing all five positions on the floor, and LeBron even has greater range on his jump shot than Magic did. But the fact that LeBron can do all things means that the perfect version of LeBron James is one who does all things at once, which is impossible. If LeBron takes his game to the block and refines his skills as a four, people will say that his perimeter game is lacking. If he locks down his outside shooting and starts picking teams apart from the outside, people will say he’s not using his size. If he does both, people will say he’s dominating the ball too much instead of getting his teammates involved. Every spectacular block or steal is a one-on-one defensive assignment that LeBron is neglecting.

Add that to the fact that LeBron’s narrative has been one of unrealized potential since he was 17, and you can expect to continue to see articles and podcasts about LeBron’s flaws even as he puts up record-setting numbers, at least until he wins a ring.” [Cavs the Blog]

It Can’t Get Much Worse; Should the Browns Go After Charlie Weis?

quinn_weisAs I was speeding (and I do mean speeding) up I-71 yesterday from Columbus to meet up with my friend in Mansfield, the afternoon show on 97.1 was talking about the rumor of Oklahoma coach Bob Stoops heading to South Bend to take over for the apparently-soon-to-be-deposed head coach of the Irish, one Charlie Weis.

While I think Stoops would have to be insane to leave Norman for South Bend, that’s not really the point. If the firing of Weis comes to pass as many believe it will, wouldn’t it make sense for the Browns to take a flyer at hiring the portly offensive coach to be their offensive coordinator?

Observe the following factors:

1) Brian Daboll is over his head.

I can’t look at the Browns defense and say they are light years ahead of the offense in terms of talent, but they ARE light years ahead in terms of results. Last night is a prime example: missing their two starting middle linebackers, they held the Ravens to effectively seven points on offense (with Robert Royal’s and Mike Furrey’s lack of hands accounting for the other nine, IMHO). The defense makes up for lack of talent with scheme and execution. The offense does not. That’s on coaching. [Read more...]
