Pronk and PEDS: A Response

When I decided to pen yesterday’s piece about Travis Hafner and his comments denying steroid use, I never thought it would create such a firestorm of chatter. Some of you agreed with my opinions, some of you called me out for slandering Pronk. To all of those who question my motives, let me defend myself.

I wrote this column as nothing more than my opinion to Hafner coming forward, without being directly questioned by the media, and saying he had never taken steroids. While I am of the opinion that Hafner at one point or another may have taken some sort of performance enhancing substance, I never once called it a fact. I am not the first, and certainly won’t be the last, who have pointed a dirty finger at Pronk. [Read more...]

Not again.

About the same time the Cavaliers were pulling victory from defeat, the Indians were doing the exact opposite.

I’m kind of glad. No, I’m not glad that the Indians lost. I’m happy because I had a meeting tonight and recorded both the Indians and Cavaliers tonight. When I finally sat down to watch, I saw that the Tribe was up 4-2. I figured I’d watch the Cavs game, then fast forward and catch the highlights of the Indians. Wow did I make the right choice. If you aren’t pumped about this quick 2 game series, you better check your pulse. I have an irrational hatred for any team that knocks Cleveland out of the playoffs, I admit that. Throw in the stereotypical Bawston fan’s attitude and my skin crawls at the mention of the Red Sox. I have to imagine the Indians are motivated as well to erase the bad memories of last season.

They beat the Yankees 2 games to 1 over the weekend, and aside from getting swept in Toronto, they have won all of their series this year. The big news coming out of Bean town (aside from that stupid jersey in Yankee stadium story) is the early season struggle of David Ortiz. (You knew that link would be to an ESPN story, what else do they have to report on?) Ortiz didn’t play in yesterday’s Yankee game.

Ortiz is 3-for-43, with one hit in his past 29 at-bats and none in his past 17. During an agonizing three-game stretch before his rest break, he whiffed four times and grounded into three double plays in a span of 10 at-bats. [Read more...]
