Facebook Question on Tom Hamilton

We have a Facebook page in case you didn’t know.  It gives us another venue to interact with readers.  We got a question on Facebook this week about Tom Hamilton, and I brought it to the rest of the WFNY to get their thoughts.  The question comes from Chad.

“I was wondering about your thoughts regarding Tom Hamilton. I have always had a problem with the fact the he gets all excited about the opposing team’s good fortune but seems bored with our own. Other people have told me that it is a common technique which is used to make a broadcast more interesting, but it strikes me as treason.”

While I think the word “treason” is too strong, let’s talk this over. Tom Hamilton undoubtedly gets excited on his calls even when the opposing team does something impressive like striking out the last Indian of the game. Do you like that? Do you think it is a good part of Hamilton’s play-by-play? Would you prefer a bigger homer like maybe the Cavaliers have on TV?

Indians Social Suite Upgrades Experience for Bloggers and Twitter Users Alike

The untreated wooden deck that adorned the left field bleachers at Progressive Field last season has been removed.  As a result, its former inhabitants – bloggers and social media aficionados alike – have been relocated.

As the team announced a week before Opening Day, the Tribe Social Deck is now the Indians Social Suite as the 10-12 invitees have been upgraded to a suite directly above the Tribe dugout along the third base line.  If you’re looking for it from the stands, it’s the suite with the giant blue Indians Social Suite sign hanging off of the railing – the team is certainly not shy about their full-court press on social media.  Just down the hall from the stadium pressbox, the Social Suite is a place where fans can tweet, upload photos, update Facebook status and exchange general game-long discussions via smartphone, laptop, or tablet – the latter two items not being allowed in the stadium in the hands of typical fans in most MLB stadiums. Indians Attack Social Media on All Fronts

The Cleveland Indians started the day with a plan to rule Twitter in Cleveland.  By 8:45 AM Mark Shapiro was trending in Cleveland according to Trendsmap.  The Indians announced that Mark Shapiro and GM Chris Antonetti are now on Twitter.  With a single tweet apiece, the Indians’ brain trust was making themselves accessible to the fans.  All that pent up snark about Snow Days and country music concerts can now have a target, if that is how you wish to use it.  That was just the start for the Tribe.

They also unleashed a social media ticket discount.  By clicking a link and sharing the news with their Facebook or Twitter friends, Tribe fans were opened up to some ticketing deals.  But that wasn’t all either.

The Indians experimented last year with a social media deck in front of the bleachers.  The exclusive section featured wi-fi and a TV so that invitees could check out all the replays as well as the live action.  Well, creating that relationship with influential social media people is going a step further this season as the Tribe has moved the social media experience to a suite. Baron Davis: “The beard is on its way!”

One of your newest Cavaliers, Baron Davis, was thought by some to be a no-show here in Cleveland.  Others assumed a buyout was coming.  Horror scenarios were dreamed up involving Davis and Cavaliers head coach Byron Scott based on their history.  Well, if you take Baron Davis at face value, it appears he won’t pose much of a problem.  He wrote this on his facebook page today.

First and foremost, I want to say thank you to the fans in LA and all of Clipper Nation. Not many guys get the chance to play at home in front of their family and friends the way I have been able to the past couple seasons, and I am grateful for that opportunity. My former teammates will always be my family, and I wish them and the organization nothing but the best.

I can’t wait to join my new team, bring good energy and help us win games. I’m ready to call The Q home and bring some excitement!!!

See you soon Ohio! The Beard is on its way!

So that’s it folks.  So far so good.  We’ll see if this is all just lip service soon.

Cleveland Indians Reaching Out to Social Media Users via “Tribe Social Deck”

While calling it “progressive” may be a cheap play on the name of the stadium in which they play, the Cleveland Indians are making a move this season that not many of their peers have even considered.  With the Internet and social media being ignored by all of the NFL and much of the NBA, the Indians have decided to roll out an initiative solely to cater to those using the emerging mediums.

Two forces likely coming together allowed the team to get the proper approvals to roll out what they are calling the Tribe Social Deck, an actual physical wooden deck with two rows of stadium seating for 10, located in left field between the bleachers and the standing room only area.   [Read more...]

WFNY Gets “Social”

WFNY

As some of you may or may not have noticed over in the Blogroll, we’ve added a few links over the past couple of days. Two of said additions are the recently created WFNY Facebook page as well as the WFNY Twitter Feed. That’s right. We embrace Web 2.0, people.

Both sites enable you to follow the happenings at WaitingForNextYear via RSS, and both allow for interaction between you all. I’m still attempting to get the hang of the whole Twitter deal, but I figured it couldn’t hurt to expand a bit beyond the normal posts and comments.

So, with that said, feel free to “become a fan” of the WFNY Facebook spot, and/or follow what we have to say via the Tweets. Thank you all in advance.
