Can’t say I disagree: “I do not know if [Thom Brennaman] is secretly a gigantic Florida Gators fan. I do not know if Brennaman believes Tebow is the second coming. What I do know is this: Brennaman was so far over the top in his pro-Tebow hyperbole on Thursday that the game became darn-near unwatchable unless the volume was off.” [Chris Burke/FanHouse]

Santonio Holmes on Fiesta Bowl Officiating

In his short, sweet and succinct post over at YardBarker, former Ohio State Buckeye Santonio Holmes has the following thoughts on the Thaddeus Gibson botched personal foul.

That’s Some BS!!!!! Quick question for you fans. submitted by SantonioHolmes

That 3rd quarter call for OSU vs Texas, as a roughing the passer was a TERRIBLE call!!! Just Terrible but its not going to effect the outcome of this game.

I agree that it was a terrible call.  I disagree that it wasn’t going to effect the outcome of the game, though the fact that Ohio State went three-and-out immediately following that drive did not help matters much.  I just wish they had a little more gas in them come the final two minutes.  So it goes.

“You feel like it was all your fault, that you lost the game,” [Ohio State safety Anderson] Russell said. “That’s how I felt right then. Everyone has been talking to me and telling me to keep my head up, but it hurts. And the other thing is we don’t have another game until September. So this one will be lasting for a long time.” [Doug Lesmerises]

Fiesta Bowl Bullet Preview

Ohio State and #3 ranked Texas square off tonight in Tempe, Arizona. Otherwise known as Buckeye Land, Southwest.

Before the season began, the media and college football experts had tapped Ohio State as the only decent team in the conference. It was supposed to be a cake walk through the Big Ten. Should it really surprise anyone that the conference is 1-5 in bowl games leading up to tonight? (That lone win was Iowa’s 31-10 thumping of South Carolina.) Life is cyclical. Right now, the Big Ten is down. It will rise again. But let’s stop trying to make Ohio State carry the load for the entire conference. The Buckeyes should have enough motivation already, and certainly don’t need the added pressure. [Read more...]

Beanie Wells: Showmanship Or Setting Us Up?

Chris Beanie Wells StiffarmIf you caught any of yesterday’s New Years BCS Bowl action, one of the news blurbs that you saw run across the bottom of your screen nearly every two minutes was the recent Associated Press report issued on Ohio State running back Chris Beanie Wells.

For many of us, it was a forgone conclusion that Wells would head to the NFL draft after this season.  Though many of his teammates came back for their Senior year thanks to some “unfinished business” (read: winning a championship), Wells was thought to simply enter the Heisman race, possibly win, hopefully get a ring and then be well on his way to Mel Kiper’s “big board.”

But perhaps we were wrong

Nice Shades for Your Buck-Eyes

There’s been some recent talk about the gifts that NCAA football players get for reaching certain bowls.  The gifts range from pretty sweet (80-gig Playstation 3s, Blu-Ray DVD players) all the way down to “wait, thisis our gift?” (Chic-fil-a gift certificates, backpacks).  Somewhere in between lie the gifts that the Texas Longhorns and Ohio State Buckeyes will receive:

“Fiesta Bowl interest is low, extremely low, and what Ohio State fans have been telling me is that after the national championship games, why should we bother? There’s nothing at stake.”  [Doug Lesmerises]

Buckeyes vs Texas…Not What I Was Hoping For

While it should come as no big surprise that the Buckeyes were chosen to play in the Fiesta Bowl, it did disappoint at least one fan. Namely me. I guess we don’t get everything we want do we?

The Longhorns come into the game with a huge chip on their shoulders, having been denied the right to play for the Big 12 title. No doubt that will be looking to show that they should have been afforded the right to play against Florida for the national championship. Colt McCoy could also be looking to prove some Heisman voters wrong as well. Don’t get me wrong, you can’t be scared to play anyone. If you want your team to be the best, you are going to have to beat quality competition. [Read more...]
