“…if I were Danny Ainge, I’d offer O’Neal’s expiring, my 2012 no. 1 AND the Clippers’ no. 1 for him.2 Wouldn’t you take your chances with a Rondo-Allen-Pierce-Garnett-Varejao quintet this spring? Or am I just a complete homer?” -Bill Simmons
Ok Sports Guy. I’ll take on your proposed trade. Here is the offer as you have laid it out.
Cleveland gets: Jermaine O’Neal ($6.226 million), plus Boston’s 2012 first round pick and the Clippers’ 2012 first round pick.
Boston gets: Anderson Varejao ($7.7 million).

As we have described to you before, many of our best ideas for columns start in long-winded group email conversations. Sometimes these chats become post-worthy in themselves, like this one did. Not only was it interesting fodder, but it also gives you, our loyal readers, some insight into our crazy day to day world (all while trying to work at our regular, paying jobs). This particular one was spawned by Anderson Varejao getting absolutely posterized by Dwayne Wade during last night’s Cavs win in Miami.

It is a secret to no one that follows the NBA that the Cavaliers are in dire need of a point guard. While many of you have given your support to Delonte West in that regard, it seems that if we could get a solid option at the ‘one,’ West could bump over to the shooting guard and provide a flexible option from the wing.
Cleveland Cavaliers GM Danny Ferry will look to do more with his summer this year as opposed to years past.
