Browns RB Montario Hardesty Agrees to a Four-Year Deal

Continuing the trend of singing in reverse order, the Cleveland Browns have agreed to terms with second-round running back Montario Hardesty.  The Plain Dealer reported early this morning that the terms of the deal have not been fully disclosed, but the length of the contract is allegedly four years.

The Browns traded up to obtain Hardesty’s services this past April and the former Tennessee Volunteer managed to vault himself up the depth charts due to strong participation in organized team activities.  His subsequent praise forced would-be holdouts Jerome Harrison and Lawrence Vickers to sign waivers and participate with the team despite not having a contract in place.

Shaun Rogers is Present, Awaiting His Fate

While much of the recent Browns offseason has been more about who is not present at the organized team activities, one player who is doing what he can to stay on the good side of his coaching staff is defensive tackle Shaun Rogers.  Rehabilitating from the leg injury that prematurely ended his 2009 season, Rogers is not only participating in OTAs, but is contributing as much as he physically can.

“He’s here,” said head coach Eric Mangini during the Wednesday morning media session.  “He’s continuing along his rehab.  We have a few guys that are like that, that are just on the path of rehab that we have set up over time.”

Behind Enemy Lines

Welcome to another addition of Behind Enemy Lines, where we take a look at what other bloggers are saying throughout our competitive landscape. It has been quite a while since we last ventured outside of our Cleveland walls, so I thought it was a great time to run a quick check-up.

If you know of any sites that have been pumping out some good content, that we just so happen to not touch on, please feel free to mention it in the comments or shoot me an email (scott[at]waitingfornextyear.com) and we can run it from here.

A bonus post to get you started: Head over to Big League Stew, where you’ll find a pretty comprehensive review of Jacobs/Progressive Field. Rick and I are quoted a few times – coincidentally, most of Rick’s revolve around the consumables! Either way, there is some great information, great pictures, and an all-around great review. Big props to Kevin for putting that together.

And now, the other guys…

LeCharles Bentley: Decision-Making Physical

LeCharles BentleyWith official practice beginning next Tuesday, OBR’s Barry McBride had his ear to the ground during a recent Phil Savage interview. Actually, he was just listening to his radio, as Savage was on WTAM 1100 discussing all things Browns with Willis and Snyder – a program I have never listened to.

In Barry’s recent post, he had the following to say:

When asked about Bentley’s return, Savage talked about how important it was for the Browns to ensure that they and Bentley are “protected”. This was to be done by making sure the player was truly fit to play before he stepped onto the field. Savage said that the physical will take place on Monday, which the point where the decision will be made. The team starts practicing on Tuesday morning. [Read more...]

Does This Get Anyone Else Pumped?

Donte Stallworth, Browns

Being that this was the first picture of Donte Stallworth sporting the Orange and Brown, I thought it would be a diservice to you readers if I did not share.  Just think, not even six months ago, we were looking at Tim Carter as our third receiver…

More OTA pictures after the jump.

And It Starts…

winslowjets.jpgGee, it would be nice if this article was a positive upbeat article about the Browns beginning OTA’s wouldn’t it?

The Browns did indeed begin voluntary workouts yesterday. Twelve voluntary conditioning slash practices will take place over the next three weeks. There will be another round of voluntary workouts prior to training camp. Why the special emphasis here? Two Cleveland Browns did not participate in these vol… oh you get the idea.

Center LeCharles Bentley was the first MIA player. He has not yet taken his team physical that would clear him to play for the Browns. He was supposed to be in New York yesterday to be seen by his personal physician before coming to Cleveland. Let’s remember that Bentley was given a clean bill of health by his doctor last year before Cleveland doctors failed him. I can’t imagine that the answer is going to be different this time from his guy, but none the less Bentley insists that he will play somewhere this year. I hope he does, and I hope it is for the Browns.

The other player not on the field yesterday was Browns TE Kellen Winslow. From Mary Kay Cabot-

Winslow has been in San Diego rehabbing his surgically repaired knee, but it’s still unclear whether his absence is health-related or has more to do with the fact he wants to re-do his contract. Winslow’s agent, Drew Rosenhaus, reached by phone on Tuesday, said, “I have no comment on Kellen’s situation.” [Read more...]
