Thursday kicked off the Bridgestone Invitational tournament at Firestone Country Club in Akron. We don’t often cover the sport on WFNY. For full disclosure, I am not really a golf fan. I don’t watch golf on television. I rarely go golfing. I prefer to do my golfing with discs to be honest with you. I have golfed enough however, to be able to appreciate what the best golfers in the world are able to do on the course.
My father-in-law loves the game. He golfs with his church league every week and I’m sure any other time he can get on the course. He also watches the Golf Channel and all the tournaments. To put it lightly, he’s a big fan. He also lives in Kentucky and had never been to a PGA event in person.
I went to Firestone ten years ago when it was still the NEC World Series of Golf. I enjoyed myself at the event, but figured it was a one timer for me. I had seen Tiger Woods in his prime. I followed him for a half dozen holes and saw him wrap balls around trees and drop a chip within a few feet from the pin. I was content to be done. [Read more...]
